I foubd the staff here to be very friendly and helpful. One of the ladies here was so honest with ne and sorted me out with a trip that suited my needs. She also rebooked me into a room as I had to leave for Pai for a few days and return for my trip back in Chiang Mai. No hassle or issues here. Just very easy going and stress free. Rooms nice and clean and good sizes too. There are prices to suit everyones needs here although I would stress if you want to stay here it is best to book in advance and it gets full pretty quickly as the demand is quite high with backpackers strolling in.

Julie's is a great place for backpackers. The main reason to go there is for the social aspect. You walk into the common area to find it constantly packed with travelers. There is a warped Snooker table, along with plenty of lounge space to hang out and chat. They have a very reasonably priced menu, along with a cooler full of beers and drinks to satisfy anyone's palate.

Along with a great atmosphere and pretty good food, Julie is also the queen of booking tours. If you have any questions about booking tours to any of the surrounding provinces, booking bus tickets, going to see a Muay Thai fight, going zip-lining, riding elephants, trekking - even if you are just looking for a nice spot to go eat, talk to the front desk before you go anywhere else. Even if you don't book with them, they will give you great information so you don't get ripped off elsewhere.

The rooms are nice. They are nothing special, but for the price they are great. There is also a cool little garden towards the back of the guesthouse. It's a nice place to chill out or read a book. You can order food there as well.

If you're looking for a social place to hang out while in Chiang Mai, Julie's is a great spot. Be sure to call ahead as they are sold out quite often, especially during high season!

We had an excellent stay in this guesthouse. We stayed in a double bedroom with ensuite. The room was clean. The staff at the guesthouse are fantastic, we booked our 3 day trek with them, and they kept our big bags whilst we we one the trekk. We also booked a cooking class via the guesthouse, which was really good. We were picked up at the guesthouse for all the activities we booked. The breakfast was good, and the location is perfect; walking distance from all the interesting sites in Chiang Mai.

We loved our stay at Julie's, food was great, room was basic but fine, we had a double with shared bathroom for 180, but the walls were very thin- we heard coughing and splattering and couples having a good time!

Great backpacker atmosphere and fab for meeting others. Nice system with drinks, help yourself and write up your own bill as you do so.

Service was odd, some staff were lovely, mainly the males but the females could be rude and dismissive. The usual with selling tickets, assuring us of no middle of the night stops for hours but guess what? There was!

No loyalty to their customers, very off about giving the cheap rooms and tried the hard sell by saying no cheap rooms available to begin. Then when we went off on a trekking trip, they wouldn't allow us to book a room for our return, not because it was full but because they won't allow bookings until that morning apparently. Also agreed to keep our bags for a fee but again seems a shame they could not offer this for free as we planned to stay again. We ended up booking next door at jjs for our return after the trek, they were fine for booking ahead.

Room Tip: Explain if you are happy to have a shared bathroom as otherwise you can be misled into agreeing to a...

The hostel is located in the central area in a small alley.
No tragic noise or bars around the hostel, but a short walk away you find everything.
Staff is good and offers great hospitality and help.
Rooms are clean and comfortable, lobby and balcony invites to hang out and meet other guests.

Three friends and I spent three days in Chiang Mai all at Julie's Guesthouse. The price was ridiculously cheap @ $3/person for two rooms. The selling point here is the service. It's so easy to set up travel arrangements, they're incredibly helpful. We didn't have anything pre booked before we arrived but they easily set us up and gave us great discounts for an elephant tour (a safe/humane one) and a day trekking trip in the forest. Our tour guide Kaew was amazing, and I'd recommend the trek. It gives you a beautiful view of the villages and the nature in the area, a refreshing take with waterfalls. Kaew was extremely knowledgable of the terrain, animals, and background.

Finally, we were looking to fly to Phuket and were having trouble booking online on our own. Julie's booked all our flights for us on Thai Airways, somehow got us a cheaper price and then helped us get to the airport in the appropriate time.

Thanks so much for the great stay!!!

I stayed there twice because my friends were and they liked it, people love it but I don't get it... It's really dirty, the rooms are cheap and dark, my room didn't even have a bed it was a mantress on the floor, no real light to read at night. You can hear every last noise from next door, and I mean everything... Things thAt you don't want to hear. Overall it's below average. They add on money to all their tours and it is more expensive but it's handy.
