“Amazing Day With Elephants and Dedicated and Friendly Staff”

This experence is what we were hopeing for. It started with a brilliant taxi ride to the park and knowledge from the English Speaking Tour guide. Upon Arrival we were given a change of clothing before heading to feed all the elephants. The best experience was learning how to control an elephant whilst riding bareback !!! After a fantastic lunch you get the opportunity to ride your elephant into the hills before taking them for a bath, which is the best fun ever. Its definatly worth every penny and the staff are brillant at making sure you have a great experience including the taking of photo's !!!

“Baanchang Elephant Park- 2 day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2010

Me and my friends were extremely pleasantly surprised with the kindness and hospitality of our hosts! Since the moment that we were picked up by the lovely Kim in the train station until the final goodbye, all the staff were incredibly friendly, considerate, doing everything they could to make us feel comfortable and enjoy the time in their company and with the elephants!
It seemed truly genuine the love for the elephants, you do feel that they want to treat the elephants as a family member with care and respect! Our main teacher/guide Tom was really knowledgeable and a wonderful person, the experience riding the elephants was body to body, making it more respectful and pleasant for the elephants and less invasive of their natural daily life! We stayed over one night, beautiful view from the farms, again an amazing dinner and a night by the fire to remember, we had the opportunity to talk a bit with our hosts, getting to know each other a bit more. The next day we went to a tribe visit, waterfall and river rafting, it was very interesting and beautiful landscape, and we had a great fun time rafting, the river was packed with local people enjoying a Sunday afternoon by the river and participating in our fun, so the experience was even more enriching with the very friendly and warm human contact :-)! All the guides were really nice, the food was lovely (special care with vegetarian food for the ones that want it), particularly the rice dish beautifully wrapped in a banana leaf which we ate by the waterfall …HEAVEN. The contact

“If you do just one thing in Chiang Mai, this should be it.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2010

Let''s face it - after weeding out all the tourist traps and the numerous unethical/questionable animal attractions, there are very few fresh and exciting things to do in Chiang Mai. Baanchang Elephant Park is, without a doubt, a jewel in Thailand's sometimes tarnished tourism crown. This is the real deal - no cruel and unnatural performances by the animals. It is clear that everyone that works with the animals has a deep love and respect for them, and if you didn't before, you will certainly leave feeling that way, too. What started as one man's vision (and he is just now 29 - impressive) has grown into a modest but respectable operation where animal wellbeing and conservation are of the utmost importance.

Unlike other camps, including many reviewed on this site, Baanchang Elephant Park does not employ the use of force on these beautiful animals - no rocks are thrown and they are not beaten with sticks to get them to move or perform. You will receive a brief introduction to the elephant hook, which is the traditional means of directing the elephant. Gentle pressure is applied in front of each ear alongside a verbal command to help direct the elephant left or right (the commands for left and right are the same, so a gentle physical cue is necessary to help the elephants differentiate). You will be able to try your hand at using commands, but it is mostly educational; hooks are not needed during the trek.

As for the itinerary, you can obviously select a different duration depending on your budget and time. Be warned: after one day, you may find yourself rearranging your plans to make another trip. Everything is taken care of for you, and there are no hidden charges to incur once you actually arrive at the site. Pickup is at your hotel in a comfortable air conditioned van, after which you will make a brief stop to learn about an elephant's diet and to pick up some fruit for the day. Upon arriving you will be given a fresh pair of mahout clothes so as not to soil your own clothes (and believe me, you WILL get dirty). Afterward you are offered coffee, tea and water while the owner gives a brief, heart-felt talk regarding his philosophy, the reasoning behind the park's existence, and his hopes for the future. From there you are able to participate in a variety of activities - you will be introduced to the animals and given a chance to feed them. You will also learn how to mount and dismount, as well as basic commands and how to drive an elephant. Lunch is fabulous and prepared on-site; the staff kept offering me more food until I couldn't eat any more. Water is plentiful and available throughout the day whenever you need it. Your trek will take place in the afternoon, followed by perhaps the most memorable part of the day - the bath. You will definitely get wet, but don't skip out on this part of the day - it is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Showers are available on-site for you to freshen up and change into your own clothes at the conclusion of the day. Enjoy another cup of coffee or tea, then enjoy the ride back to your hotel.

Overall, Baanchang Elephant Park is absolutely a 10 out of 10.

“The most wonderful and memorable day of our trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2010

From the pick up this day was wonderful. Welcoming gentleman came and got us and transferred us over to the park where we pulled up and straight away saw a group of elephants hanging about in the trees.

First, it's time to get changed into 'mamhout' clothes and have something to drink. After being made welcome, we then received a heart wrenching lecture on the background and philosophy of the park. These people love their animals and you can see it in everything they do.

We then spend the rest of the day feeding, riding and cleaning the elephants, only stopping to have a really lovely home cooked lunch (thai of course) and a siesta in the hammocks.

The elephants were obviously happy and safe in this park and this is exactly what we wanted to see. In Thailand we were offered many chances to go and see animals shows - many of these shows we heard stories of visitors feeling upset by what they saw, animal drugging or cruelty. There wasn't a hint of this here - obviously it would have been better for them to be in the wild but these elephants could no way be released as they wouldn't know how to survive.

A wonderful day, amazing value for money and something you will never ever forget.

“Great Day - Thank you!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2010

We had a fantastischen day with our small daughter with the elephants. The elephants are mad and the personal super nice. These elephants park is really worth an attendance. We learned and were allowed the most important commands with the elephants to then ride. High point was the common bath with the elephants. It was an unforgettable experience. Thank you very much!!
