Stayed the second time in Chiang Mai at this guesthouse because awana was fully booked.
The owner of the guesthouse is an old lady and is very nice and friendly! her daughter works in the kitchen in the morning and they take great care of the guests. Even some of the guests are actually living here, some for a couple of months, some for a couple of years!! They are completely not pushy when it comes to tours. They can of course arrange everything, but you have to ask! On Sunday you can walk in less then a minute to the Sunday Market, and the square by the Tapae Gate is great to relax. Enjoyed my stay very much and will come back again!

I have stayed VIP house a few times.Stayed a room with fan and WC,hot shower. It was very cheap for 200 - 250 Baht and large room, very quiet too. The location is best for me. Just 1 min from Tape gate.It is located in soi 1 / Ratchadamnoen St,which is very quiet alley.Breakfast is available in the morning. Wifi is available with pay(like 20 Baht/day) But at night time like after 9 PM,no one was counter, though it was not problem for me.Anyway,VIP house is one of the favorite guest house in Chiang Mai for me.

It's a very nice place on one of the quite smaller streets of Chang Mai where pubs, markets and everything you need is nearby. The VIP-House is a very cheap and nice place, with lovely persons to stay with, in the hart of Chang Mai, along the northcity wall, upposide the postoffice.
There is good food serving. The reception is on the backside of the restaurant, small, trustable place. They'll do everything to help you and they speak very good English.
Roomcleaning is everyday.clothes they will wash for you for a small price.
The Thai-Italian daughter of the couple -man Italian, women Thai- is exepted Tuesday and sundays always on reptiondesk. Reservation isn't the thing you've to do.
Maybe it is easy, but also just hop-on is okay as far as I know. Kitchen is Sunday closed, but further the rest of the week open.
They are not push you on the train- or busstations, where other hostelrunners are pushing you to come into their hostel, wait and take a red-bus, ask for hopping of by north gate of city wall next to Coffee Corner.
Walk into the street what goes along the postoffice and hop into Ratchadamnoen street.
Directly on rightside along the city wall, there is a lot of pubs, a 7-Elevensupermarket, and internet is possible.
Also for 10 Baht a day you've WIFI-connection by VIP-house.
