Eleven years ago my wife and I discovered a small restaurant, eclectically decorated serving delicious and spicy Northern Thai food. Unfortunately it looks like Huen Phen has been added to every tourist's itinerary.
Day 1, we went at 8.30 pm and there were nine groups ahead of us. These days since everyone has to photograph their food before eating, things are slower anyway.
Day 2 we went at 5.30 pm and got a table right away. But within 15 mins the place had filled up. And no, they won't take reservations, at least not from foreigners.
A note about the food, spicy means really spicy. So be careful.
The papaya salad was excellent. And the northern pork sausage so good we ordered it twice.
Have dinner at 5 pm and you can't go wrong with this place. A must do on a CHIANG Mai trip and sadly on everyone's list as well.
