I went there for lunch, to escape the heat of the city and to check out the view and the food. What a disappointment. The place is very rundown, plastic sheets wrapped around tree trunks and over the eaves. The view is just not great either. The food is worst. They tried to pass overcooked tiny sea prawns as fresh water fresh prawns. My freshwater river prawns with glass noodles in claypot was so bad it was almost inedible. It was too salty, the prawns tasted precooked and not what the menu says. And the price is also very high, easily 2.5 times higher than in the city. Overall, it must be avoided no matter what the travel book says.

Don't go if your indecisive because the menu is large .
It's a bit of a journey past the university up into the hills in the zoo grounds and by the side of a waterfall , but well worth the effort .
The views are stunning from the large multi level balcony/veranda , both of the waterfall and the city in the distance .
The food was excellent and we ordered way too much as the portions are generous and the service is very quick .
There is a house band who play around the tables creating a good atmosphere .

My husband and I ate there in early feb. It was a 20 min tuk tuk ride to a hill that overlooks Chiang Mai. It's a large restaurant that mainly caters for locals for special occasions. Not much English is spoken. However the food is extensive and authentic Thai food. A little more expensive than the average Chiang Mai eatery but worth the extra. Ask your hotel to make a reservation, also ask them to write the name down in Thai so that the driver will know what you mean. It seemed to be an unlikely place for tourists to frequent. This makes it better.
