“The best food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013 via mobile

This place is a gem. I have lost count of home many times I have eaten here! Stumbled across it many years ago and as soon as I arrive in chiang Mai, it's the first place I now go. My sister and I have a standard order; 2 yellow chicken curry's; 2 sticky rice and a paw paw salad!!! It I the best curry I have eaten. They do a great coconut icecream too! I love sitting in the big under croft area and watch Thailand pass by. They even do take home curry packs which you can get back into Australia; and they r fantastic. It's up there with my favorite places; it's true laid back Thai atmosphere and tasty food are the good things in life.

“Great authentic local food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2013

We stayed in Chiang Mai five nights and liked this restaurant so much we ate there three times. The northern style pork curry with ginger is excellent, as is the chicken khao soey. They also have a range of insect dishes (e.g. rot duan) if you know what to ask for.

The restaurant is pretty basic but the food is very tasty and very good value (four of us ate very well, with drinks, for 500 baht).

“Tasty, quick, cheap northern Thai food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2013

This place was recommended to us by our tour guide O for its Kao Soi which is a northern Thai curry noddle dish which we were wanting to try whilst in Chiang Mai. O advised us that it was not a fancy restaurant but more simple (no frills) tasty food, where more of the locals dine.

We ordered two Kao Soi with chicken, which appeared only a couple of minutes later. This dish was very delicious, living up to expectations!

We then also decided to try the sticky rice with mango desert. Embarrassingly, this was our first try of this dish which is also a traditional dish, which was fantastic.

In all, we had 3 drinks (tea, chang and water), 2 Kao Soi and 1 sticky rice with mango desert and it cost only 210 baht.

With food as tasty as this at such a cheap price, you can't go wrong.

“Inexpensive Unpretentious Chiang Mai Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

Just minutes from the Tha Pae Gate, hollow for this restaurant by its distinctive white and green awnings.

We arrived very early at about 5:30pm. Very significant because as our food arrived, the throng did too!

Iconic Chiang Mai food is offered in small portions, but cost about Bt60 on average. We ordered:

Nam prik noom (green chilli dip)
Nam prik Ong (tomato, meat dip, mild)
Khao soi (coconut curry noodles with crispy wanton strips)
Half fried chicken
Kale in oyster sauce
Chicken potato curry
Kha niaow (sticky rice)
Steamed white rice
Mango sticky rice
Home made ice cream

This meal was closely echoed by a very local Thai family of 3 generations who sat near us and ordered almost identical dishes and enjoyed them as much as we did!

The owner seemed a bit aloof, but warmed up to us when he saw how we cleaned off our plates, then explained which dishes he served were iconic Chiang Mai, and which we're ubiquitous Thai.

“Curry too sweet, food cold, pretty bland overall.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

The spring rolls were the best part of my meal. I had the chicken and potato curry with sticky rice and spring rolls. Needed much more "kick"... the spring rolls and the sauce it came with were great, which is only reason I am giving above 2 stars...
