Chiang Mai doesn't have many Indian restaurants and the ones I have tried are far from authentic in flavour.
Don't get confused by the name of this place, I think they must be trying to fulfil the demand for halal food by naming it as such. The menu is largely North India/Pakistani.
We went for lunch today and ordered a Butter Chicken, Garlic Nan and Mutton Biryani. The owner/chef asked whether we liked spicy and we said yes. The food arrived and we were pleasantly surprised that it was not greasy because that was our usual complaint of Indian cuisine in Thailand.
All the food was tasty and authentic. Only let down was that the chicken used in the Butter Chicken dish was strips such as ones you find in pre-made sandwiches. This was strange because you would have expected it to have been cooked in the sauce. The overall taste of the dish was good however.
Recommended if you want a taste on India in CM. Otherwise for a Thai take on Indian food in CM, try Hinlay.
Well, the best I've been to at least. And it is a few minutes walk from two other beaches which are very different but also great to look at.
Phra Nang is different because it has a huge karst which overhangs from the entrance to the beach on which rock climbers try out different routes all day. It has large cave systems on each end of the beach and beautiful sand.
Best bit is that you can only reach here by boat. No road!
