Stayed for 3 great nights in the U it's a great boutique hotel in the heart of the old town which is a walled town and no more then a 10min walk to any of the entrances/exits to other areas. Very much the boutique hotel it claims to be doesn't feel like a hotel which is great as I work in a hotel and it's difficult to find somewhere that doesn't remind me of work. Restaurant is small but services everyone and a good selection on the menu. The staff couldn't be helpful enough and they even gave us a complimentary upgrade to a pool access room which was great. Room is lovely old style dark wood and bedside lamps hanging from the ceiling! Great rain shower and huge bath. Very quiet area but the Sunday Market runs along the same street which is a must its also behind one of the main attractions Wat Chedi Luang which is amazing. Hotel also booked us into the Thai Orchard Cooking School which is also great we had so much fun and it's great value for money. Wouldn't hesitate to come back, lovely place to base yourself in Chiang Mai.

We were really pleased we chose U Chiang Mai. Staff were exceptionally polite and helpful from the moment we arrived in taxi. Room was lovely and spacious and all day breakfast was a really good touch.
The check in and checkout times are not restricted either, so overall a very easy going but professional hotel.
Location is very central, restaurants straight across the road and night market on Sundays outside hotel entrance.
We had a fab stay! Highly recommend!
Only negative comment was the bar, barman overcharged us for our drinks because he didn't understand what a mixer was, ie. I was served a gin seperate from my lemonade and charged for both as two seperate drinks. Think he just needs a bit more training/experience!

I am so glad we stayed here. A beautiful hotel, gracious staff and I could not fault anything. The breakfast was lovely - a nice change to be able to order from the menu but with the option to select more from the tables. The hotel is right in the centre of the old city and so close to everything. The Sunday street market is right out side the door and we enjoyed some amazing street food for dinner on the Sunday night. It was lovely to have the choice of pillows, music on the i pod and soaps (we chose the lemon grass and it was so smooth and lovely). We upgraded to the delux room and we could step from our room onto the balcony and straight into our pool. Ten out ten for this hotel - don't think twice just stay here, you won't regret it.

This is a funky trendy hotel. Very central and in the best location you could ask for in the old city of Chiang Mai. The open plan lobby was a nice place to relax. Home made food in the restaurant was some of the best we had in Thailand. Breakfast was served all day which was a nice treat while on holiday.
The decor in the rooms was very authentic. Big comfortable beds and spotlessly clean.
Great gym and lovely outdoor pool. Very friendly and helpful staff.
The spa was amazing! They had a deal on For massage while we were there and it was ridiculously cheap. We almost felt guilty. I loved the massage and felt great afterwards.
Fabulous hotel. Would definitely stay again if I was in this part of Thailand

I stayed at U Chiang Mai for 3 nights and it was great. It is located in the Old City, in a quiet location. The Sunday night markets happen right out in front of the hotel. The pool is amazing. There is only a small number of rooms, and the staff are brilliant. They were very accommodating. I would stay there again.

Make use of the complimentary cycles they have to go for a cycle around the old city.

Tip. Ask for a deluxe ground floor room with direct pool access. We had a superior room on the ground floor (110) it goes straight out into the pool.

The only thing that is less than stellar about this hotel is that the wifi kept requiring us to login. Other than that it was the best, most amazing experience. It is a lovely boutique ish hotel in the old city of chiang mai- which to us was a little similar to NYCs Greenwich village.

My fiancé and I came to the conclusion that the staff was comprised of the nicest, most amiable people we had ever met. They were ALWAYS smiling, asking about our day, amenable to our requests etc.

We were there for 5 days and had a nice complementary bfast each morning. The day we left , our flight was before the restaurant opened, but they had two "breakfast boxes" waiting for us at 530am to take to the airport- what a nice gesture.

We cannot say enough about the location. A cute quirky and artsy neighborhood in the old city close to amazing restaurants, cafes, temples, night street bazaars and wine bars. Alot of expats frequent the area, mixing in with the local crowd , giving the whole area a very close knit, village-y feel.

We are now in Bangkok and miss chiang mai terribly. Hopefully another stay at u chiang mai is in the near future!!

Very simply the hotel is great, the staff are friendly, and our room was clean and functional. The 'breakfast any time' policy is a brilliant idea and the food was excellent. I didn't use the pool myself but it looked inviting and it certainly provided an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world for those that wanted it. Although there are 3 floors there is no lift so if you struggle with stairs make sure you ask for a ground floor room. It is situated in a great location, especially on a Sunday night when the market runs all the way down the street immediately in front of the hotel. It is in very close proximity to several beautiful temples and I certainly felt perfectly safe wandering around the area on my own. Chiang Mai is a relatively small and therefore it's easy to see lots of it either on foot or using the cheap and cheerful Tuk Tuk's which are always in plentiful supply just outside (but make sure you agree prices before you start your journey). I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it as a base for exploring the city.

Room Tip: Those with mobility issues need to request a ground floor room as there are no lifts!
