If your idea of a good time is hanging with a bunch of morose, steak-and-kidney-pie fed Brits watching sporting events you neither understand nor care about, this is definitely your kind of place. If, furthermore, you like to have your wallet drained by some of the sleaziest drink pricing scams you can imagine, you've found your little bit o' heaven! Should you be so bold as to ask for a cocktail menu here, you will get an English-Thai drink name glossary with no prices, of course. And should you ask how much a Gin and Tonic is, you will be quoted a fairly reasonable price depending on your selection of gin. When your bill comes, however, if you have managed not to be lulled into a deep trance by the wake-like atmosphere or the dreary expat grumbling, you will notice the price of the drinks you ordered is considerably higher than quoted. Why, you may ask? Because they CHARGE SEPARATELY FOR THE MIXER! That's right folks, you heard it here first: order a G&T at "The Pub" and you will be charged one price for the G and another for the T. No publican in England with a complete block and tackle would stoop so low as to try this, yet in Chiang Mai's small piece of the British Empire, they'll do it with a straight face! This is the kind of place no one important will ever miss when it inevitably goes belly-up. Might just as well pull the plug now and send the Guinness-swilling herd back to collect their dole...

Whether for an English breakfast or a Thai meal, a pint of Tiger or a Gin & Tonic, this bar/restaurant in its park-like setting, only some 100 metres from the Nimmanhemin road, in the north-eastern corner of Chinag Mai provides a really welcome change. The pub-atmoshere, the friendly bar-staff, the feeling of being at home and amongst like-minded ex-pats from all corners of the empire all combine to make the visit to the pub a memorable experience.

It is true that not all of the events appeal to everyone - American and English premier-league football, cricket, rugby and golf are available on the wide-screen. Bridge and chess clubs have their weekly meetings here. But of course the highlight of the week is the quiz-night: Monday.

But every night / any night is good for a couple of pints and a yarn with the regulars.

Tired and decrepit describes the building and the food. We read that it was once voted the one of best pubs in the world. All I would ask was on who's planet. Poor atmosphere, awful decor and and decidedly average food. We won't be returning.

Just back in Chinag Mai after a one year absence and was received like the long lost brother.
Excellent beer on tap - speedy friendly service. The landlord is always ready to discuss local issues and let you catch up on the gossip of the last year. Interesting customers from many countries all over the world with great stories to tell.
Never had a bad evening here yet.

Great Sunday Roast Lunch, had a choice of beef or lamb, I went with the beef which was pink and surprisingly tender and flavoursome for Thailand. A couple of my friends had the lamb which they said was good too. Served with Yorkshire puddings and lots of potaotes, veg and horseradish. With cricket and football on two different large screen TVs and an olde world feel this place really captures the essence of an old English Pub. Seems to be more ex-pats than tourists, but not just Brits, quite a few American and Australians too. Friendly crowd and certainly busy on Sundays.
