While transitioning to Thailand, the Riverside became our first home in Thailand. We stayed in the deluxe rooms in the back so they were quite large, very nice and quiet. The whole facility was always very clean. There is a brand new pool which is great but there is a big tree covering it so it mostly in the shade. I’m sure that is great during the hot season but in October the water was quite brisk. Morning breakfast was a delight. The free food is fruit, toast, coffee or tea. They do offer great smoothies, espresso coffees, eggs and other items for very reasonable prices. If you want to do some tours the girls up front are great. I’ve checked around since we’ve left there and there prices are hard to beat. I’ll use them when we have friends come just because they were friendly and helpful. Wifi is available at good speeds in the breakfast area and around the pool. Not available in the rooms in the back. Right on the river which is nice and only a 5 minute walk to the famous night bazaar. All in a great guest house that made us feel right at home.

The woman owner of the Riverside House picked us up at the bus station at 5:30 am with such warmth that I was blown away. She stopped at the market so we could give alms to the monks that stop every morning at around 7 am so we were prepared to receive them. What a treat! The included breakfast was American and yummy but we bought a traditional Thai breakfast from the market which was very authentic. The owner is also grooming her daughter to take over the business and the father is there too so it's a real family affair. As a dog lover, there have two dogs that are fun to play with which was a treat after not being able to pet any of the stray dogs in Bangkok. They also run a rather large (attached) travel agency and scheduled our cooking school and elephant/hill tribe trek and both were fantastic. The rooms surround a garden and are very peaceful. The hotel is a short walk across the bridge from the night market so very convenient but you really feel as if you're in another world being in a garden. The rooms were minimal but comfy. Highly recomemded!

We went for the pricier rooms (around 700 baht for a double bed) since they were a little more spacious.

They just build a brand new swimming pool.
WiFi available for free, only in the lobby and not in the room.
No safety deposit boxes in the room (only at reception).
At night there is a (very friendly) guard.

Staff at the reception (Boom and Nok) are very friendly and helpfull with arranging tours and tickets to your next destination.

Breakfast is only coffee/tea, jam/butter, fruit and slices of bread. For everything else there is a menu with fixed prices.

7-11 next door. Cheap bike rental place next door.

Situated on the riverside opposite of the Iron bridge.
A short walk to the night bazaar.

We recently spent several days at the Riverside House in Chiang Mai and were pleased with our stay. The staff was very helpful, the rooms were spacious and clean with A/C and fair showers, there were several English channels on cable TV, complimentary adequate breakfast came with the room and the rates were reasonable for what you received. There was a tour agency right at the site so it was convenient to get information on Chiang Mai and its surroundings. The location was excellent so we were able to walk to some of the markets in the old part of town. There was a nice small garden area but this is a no frills kind of place that offers great service. We would stay there again

This is the second time I have stayed at Riverside after reading a review I found online. I love the location just 10 minute walk to Night Market. It's across the street from the river, close to many nice restaurants within walking distance. The owners are friendly and will arrange for pickup at bus, train or airport anytime of day or night. Most often they come themselves. I have stayed twice in the lower older rooms close to the beautiful garden. They have added on more larger rooms in the back for a little more cost. Our room was $15 USD both stays 2004 & 2010. There is a helpful travel staff in the front office during the day that can arrange any tour or you can walk across the street and hire your own sawngthaew or tuk tuk. Extremely clean, quiet and friendly. It's also a few steps to a very large supermarket. Continental breakfast is included.

We spent ~$25 for the best room available at the hotel. It was quite nice, modern, clean, quiet- they should charge more. There are so many hotels in this price range that are dumps; I felt compelled to leave a good review for one that is actually really nice.

We were lucky enough to score the room on the second floor overlooking the absolutely gorgeous garden behind the main building. The room we had was air conditioned and perfectly clean, the beds were a little hard but that's most likely just a personal preference thing - my friend found them to be fine. The bathrooms were clean and the shower hot - nothing to complain about there.

The garden at Riverside was a real highlight as it was lovingly maintained and absolutely gorgeous, though coming from Australia it is a (welcome) shock to the system to see things so green and lush. The establishment has 2 adorable puppies in residence that were apparently rescued after their mother abandoned them (a story heard from a little girl staying there the same time as us) and they were playful and really added to the atmosphere :)

The free breakfast was light - tea and coffee (with the powdered creamer we came to expect and dread all over Thailand) , toast with spreads and some fruit, but they offer eggs and waffles etc for a minimal extra cost.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, and run the adjoining tour company from the same office - we went on an elephant trek /bamboo rafting trip which was fun.

Overall, we had a lovely time and were very happy and comfortable here. It wasn't fancy, but we were not expecting nor wanting that. Restaurants, bars, the night markets and bizaars (one of them with a resident elephant) are all within walking distance, and it was lovely to stay on the other side of the river from the town and avoid a little of the noise. I would definitely stay here again.
