“Nice Place Good location”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

The staff are helpful, and cheerful after a couple of days they seemed to know all the visitors or at least they new me which is nice. Rooms were adequate (superior room) but then I only need a room to sleep and shower. The breakfast was good with a variety of thai and western dishes. There are lots of vendors on soi 6 leading to the hotel with some terrific food for little money. Also within walking distance of major attraction in the old city. A great location for either booking a tour or just grabbing a map and touring the city on foot. Was lucky enough to see the Lunar New Year celebrations in the old market.

Room Tip: go for a room by the pool

We booked into the Eurana Boutique Hotel during the later part of January. The reception staff were pleasant, helpful and spoke good English.

We booked a double standard room through Agoda. When we arrived we were told the room had only two single beds which they could put together. We had been in several hotels where, when two single beds were put together the single sheets and duvets were changed to a set of double sheets and double duvet turning two single beds into a "proper" double bed. Here, they simply moved the two singles closer together.

If we were only staying for one night then we might have made do, but with several days ahead of us in Chaing Mai we would have preferred a double. It turns out that the only double available was in a deluxe suite which we were welcome to at an extra cost of $15. While this wasn't a great deal of money I was not impressed that the upgrade wasn't complimentary. After meeting with the day manager the following morning we expressed our concerns and she agreed to the upgrade at no extra charge.

I will say the deluxe room (Y202) was a spacious room that was unpleasantly musty. The bed was super comfy and the sheets clean though they had permanent wear signs and stains. The bathroom had a bath and shower and interestingly enough the sink had a great amount of hot water but the bath had little. I love a good bath but resulted in boiling the kettle numerous times to have a sensible bath with hot water!! This was in the evening and when my boyfriend showered in the morning it was no better.

There is a small window over the shower that is rotting away and some ants have taken up residence. The window sill and general grouting are unpleasant and in need of some repair. Keep in mind this room is a $75 (USD) a night room!

The second and third night we were relocated to Y306 and this room was spacious as well though the window in the shower had the same issue...rotting wood. This time however the tiny ants were not in the shower but in on the headboard area of the bed. The paint was also peeling under another window. I mentioned these items to the manager on duty when checking out and while she raised her eyebrows she offered no apology, didn't ask my room number and appeared not to take any notes.

The reception area is pretty and the reception staff helpful and that's where the hotel highlights end. We positively would not recommend this hotel to anybody!

In some parts of Thailand, when the words "Suite", "Executive", "Superior",and "Deluxe" are used to describe a Hotel Room, be prepared to be amazed and/or, dismayed.

Access to The Eurana is down a narrow Soi, not for the faint hearted if you are driving yourself. Our SatNav found the Eurana Parking area perfectly, where on other occasions she did lead us astray!!

Second visit to The Eurana, and got a good price for a "Junior Suite" for 5 nights with "Hotels2Thailand". Advantage over the better "Deluxe" rooms, surrounding the Pool, was it was quieter.
Twas a very Junior Suite, with view over back stairs, sandwiched between the standard rooms in the older wing.
Entry into small ante room with a Big TV, fridge and Coffee/Tea facility. Then into the Bedroom, and another Big TV as a divider between wardrobe area, and big Double Bed. Small bath/shower in standard sized bathroom with only basic extras.

Restaurant, that used to be open all day on our last visit, now only opens for Breakfast. Which was only OK; Buffet selection of Thai and European dishes, and cold eggs. Ordered scrambled Eggs one morning; reluctantly served. The next day, scrambled Eggs were on the Buffet!
Great swimming pool on second level, with plenty of loungers and umbrellas for those who needed them.

Of note is "Bhun" (dont know if spelt right), Porter, information, transport; always appeared to be there when you needed something. He remembered us from our last stay two years ago; a great asset to The Eurana.
Also, always outside was "The Captain"; an elderly independant TukTuk operator, always cheerful and full of information.

Out the back of the Hotel, another Soi full of Restaurants, street food, and turn left, find a small bustling Market with exotic fruits, spices, chillies, live fish and other foods. It appears that small organised Tour groups visit this Market to educate visitors about the ingredients of Thai Food.

A great base in the heart of Chiang Mai, with plenty to do and see within walking distance. And a lot more if you hire local knowledge, and haggle the price.

Room Tip: If you can handle a little noise from the pool area, go for "The Deluxe" rooms.

Firstly do not be taken in by the photos! Yes the reception area is pretty, has a fountain and greenery, but the rooms shown are the suites! If you book as we did "superior" rooms you will be in for a big disappointment, the rooms are small, very tired (furnishings need replacing and rooms need redecorating, whilst bathrooms need replacing) ours had a beautifully cleaned floor, but dust everywhere, the shower room had cracked and grimy tiles with a shower curtain that was ripped. As for sleep this may prove difficult, tiled corridor and squeaky stairs plus a lack of sound proving mean you will here people moving around the corridors and rooms. Do not expect tea/coffee making facilities in the room or anywhere in the hotel!
Breakfast is buffet style with a choice of fresh fruit, cereal, bread, ham, sausage, eggs, rice, Thai style soup and noodles, fruit juice tea or coffee, quite adequate but the hot elements where lukewarm at best it is also the only time the restaurant is open!
Would I stay again, no

Not sure if they have a new section but we were apparently upgraded to Deluxe from Superior. ...... 1980s decor with chair seats so worn they were shredded. A mini construction site in the cupboard under bathroom sink (full of rubble). Broken toilet seat & horrible musty smell in room. Hard bed & pillows. On a positive note it was very clean in the room. Full marks to house keeping. Given the attitude from only 1 receptionist in particular, I suggest she changes profession as she certainly got her point across without words that she did not much care for customers! We stayed in way better value accommodation for much less in Chiang Mai.

A lovely hotel situated perfectly within the Old City, Chiang Mai. I booked a deluxe pool view for 9 nights and was very happy with everything. Room was large with a huge comfy bed, very nice bed linen changed and room cleaned everyday, bathroom was great too, the shower was bliss! Room staff and service very friendly and not invasive and always did a great job too. The reception staff were also excellent, one lady spent about half hour helping me get internet on my mobile set up with a 3G card from the 7/11, even calling the providing phone company to sort out connection issues, something she didn't have to do. All staff very friendly and helpful at all times. Countless restaurants, cafes, shops, and many 7/11's so close by, all within a minute or two walk from the hotel. Gardens and grounds beautiful, very well maintained. My favourite tuk-tuk driver was always waiting just outside in the Soi for my early morning adventures around town. Guy's I can highly recommend going to Chiang Mai Shooting Club, grab yourself a gun and fire a few rounds, you'll have a hoot! I would never be able to do that back in Oz! Thankyou Eurana and Chiang Mai, I look forward to staying at this great hotel once again.
I also highly recommend the Blind massage clinic only a few minutes walk away, these people are absolutely amazing! Mr Nhat is the legend there and I recommend booking him in advance, but all staff are brilliant. You'll be hard pressed to get a better massage.

Room Tip: I highly recommend the Deluxe Pool View simply because the Thai aesthetic within the room was really...

Great location. Great friendly and knowledgable staff. Loved it...but during our stay, they locked up the wifi with a password and you needed a new one for every day and one for each device...ipad and iphone. It was a complete nightmare. Fix it!!!
