“Bug and Bee Not What it Used to Be!”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

When the Silom Road Bug and Bee restaurant opened a number of years ago it was a novelty because it provided a range of different types of mainly crepe-based foods. The fare was nicely presented, tasty and reasonably priced. Friends and I regularly ate Saturday lunch there and often I would wonder down to have a Sunday snack.

But oh the last visit on the 28th of July 2012 was a completely different experience. After a long absence I returned expecting to find the same quality and level of service. Unfortunately I was greatly disappointed.

The place needs a 'wash and brush up', it is now showing its age and the decor is worn and tired. A lick of paint at least would not go amiss. My companion and I were shown to a table with a large pool of water underneath both it and the chairs, this had obviously not been noticed by the staff who were mildly interested at first seemed prepared to ignore this fall risk area. We asked them to mop it up, well who wants to sit with their feet in water while eating a meal, especially if the restaurant is in a capital city 25 kilometres from the sea.

The music was loud and grating, we asked for it to be turned down a shade so that conversation would be comfortable. The waiter replied that this could not be done, typically Thai for 'I don't know how to do it and I am not going to ask the manager.' Neither of us wanted to sit underneath a blaring speaker with raucous saxophone noise just above our heads. So we made a line for the door. The manager intervened and said that the music could be moderated and that he would do it. Well I did not notice any difference in the level of noise, but we stayed.

The first food item I ordered was not available, I ordered again. The food arrived in very quick time it seemed to have been prepared beforehand and microwaved. That is ok it is a common practice in many cafes and smaller restaurants. But the crepe base was not fresh indeed it was a little tough - how can crepes be tough? The taste was bland and cloying and certainly not appetising.

So with the service, music, tired and dull decor, mediocre food my eating companion and I were very disappointed and sad indeed to see how much this once good bistro had degenerated.

I certainly won't be back until they improve their game.

It is located very near to Sala deng sky train station and offers a good array of crepes and smoothies. Thai food is also served but it is standard.

“24 hours cafe"”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

Really like it as it opens for 24 hours a day and located under the Saladang skytrain. Price not too expensive and free internet provided.

Try their cakes, really good.
