My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights at the start of our Thailand tour. I had booked a room in the main hotel but upon checking in we were escorted to the annex building about 200m away. I was going to say something but we unbeknown had been upgraded to a top floor corner suite. The room was absolutely amazing and afforded fantastic views over Bangkok. The room itself was top notch and we did not mind the short walk to the main hotel for breakfast. On the walk there is a very small corner store where we would buy our water for the day. The storekeeper is very friendly and always remembered us and would even wave to us if we were just walking buy. Support the local small businesses and stop by (to buy).
Breakfast was ok with a small buffet selection but we did not otherwise eat or drink at the hotel preferring to head out.
There is a small bar nearby called The Rolling Bar. It does not look much but we ate twice there and the food was good, the beer cold, the service was very friendly and you get to sit by a canal! One word of warning if you are sitting by this canal is there are some small insects that will bite your lower legs if you do not have some deet or similar on. I had deet on, my wife not and she had some bites and I did not.
The location of the hotel is not far from the democracy monument and on the day we left for the airport there was a small riot going on at the democracy monument site but other than a bit of traffic chaos we were not impacted too much.
The location is also relatively quiet but as mentioned in other reviews it is withing walking distance of some major attractions.
We liked the hotel so we have booked it again for the end of our holiday this Thursday coming up for 2 nights.

Upon arrival and through to the end, all staff were VERY friendly and so helpful. Our free breakfast was a feature & In a nice setting. I tried their fried rice (don't normally eat in morning but i had to go back for more) It was the best tasting FR I've ever had. Rooms of 2nd building were 30 meters walk from Reception/Pool/breakfast but wasn't a problem. I was told that the rooms of the 2nd building are better. We were only a couple of blocks away from the famous Koh San Rd.( Must visit K.S.Rd day /evening & after 10pm because its such a different feel each time.) One minor thing missing from the room was an advisory list of places close by. eg 7/11 close restaurants etc. The reception has these great little maps that you can show Tuk Tuk or Taxi drivers (important).Rooms - electronic card locks. Please note - This place does not have a road out the front but the bridge is almost along side. We had family(10 people) over for a wedding and had 5/6 rooms. Hidden wonder - riverside -Would recommend to my friends & U

Stayed 3 days in the main house of the Lamphu Tree House.

The room was clean with an air conditioning, fridge and tv. The hotel has a pool and a little restaurant.

The hotel is located near the old city in a quiet small road. The Khaosan Road, the Grand palace or Wat Pho are in walking distance. A pier (Phra Artit) is also just few minutes away.

From the airport you can get there by taxi for around 400 Bht. The hotel organizes a transfer from the hotel to the airport for 500 Bht.

If this is your first visit to Bangkok I recommend a google search "Bangkok + Taxi"

Unfortunately the old city is not connected to the Sky Train or MRT. Therefore you have to use a Taxi which isnt expensive if you go by Taxameter (80 Bht was my highest fare (destination Jim Thompson house)).

At the reception you can get a location description in Thai which I used for the taxi driver. If you cant find a taxi driver who want to go to the hotel or just want to go there for a not reasonable fix price (one night I was so lucky) just use the Khaosan road as your destination and drop off on the way.

The breakfast was ok but with no big variety.

7 of us stayed here late January 2014 for 3 nights and we were most impressed with the value for money and particularly excellent breakfasts included in the tariff. Meals were also very good. The hotel is small and budget, not luxurious, but a quiet oasis in a fast city, walking distance to the river, and a highlight of our trip.

Amazing service, breakfast and rooms. Beautiful quaint place to stay. Unfortunately a little hard to find and a little sketchy area.

We were so happy with the stay here and would stay here again for sure!!

Small hotel with traditional features in the reception and dining room and a small swimming pool and garden where you can relax. There is also a rooftop area where you can take a drink and watch the sun go down. Adequate size bedrooms and shower and toilet in the bathroom with the washbasin in the room. All very clean. Excellent choice for buffet breakfast and you can eat in the restaurant in the evening if you want. Prices for drinks and food reasonable. Staff always very helpful and friendly. We used to walk down to the Khao San Road or Ram Butri to eat in the evening, not far away, but far enough from the hotel for it to be fairly quiet on the side of the canal. Would recommend this if you like smaller more intimate hotels.

My wife and I stayed here for four nights on our first trip to Bangkok and were extremely happy with our choice. Tucked away in a quiet canal-side location the Lamphu Tree House was a wonderful retreat at the end of each day's sight seeing and close to some great restaurants for a memorable evening meal. Our room was clean, quiet, comfortable and well appointed for the price. The pool area was a great place to relax for a couple of hours before heading back out into the mayhem! The complimentary breakfasts were excellent as was the evening meal we had there. All of the staff we had contact with were extremely friendly and helpful.

A tip for travellers while demonstrations continue - we had difficulty getting taxis to take us back to the hotel if it meant navigating around the Democracy Monument, which is quite nearby. Nevertheless, we would not bother looking for anywhere else to stay in Bangkok!!
