Good bits:
After arriving from a long journey, the lovely staff at Lamphu greeted us with smiling faces and carried our bags up to the room. The room was generally nice and clean with a large balcony. There is a great rooftop bar where you can watch storms rolling in (we had a few!) and the buffet breakfasts were really lovely. Go for the banana pancakes...best we tasted in Thailand!
The dining area was very nice with inside and outside areas to sit in and there is a lovely, cool swimming pool. The side of the pool has a supply of towels for guests so you don't have to get your own wet!
We organised a trip to Ayutthaya through the reception and it was all done efficiently. They were also very good for advice and wrote things in Thai if you needed them for taxi drivers etc. They were great at letting you know how much taxis should cost for different destinations so you didn't get ripped off.
Location was brilliant if you want to be near the old town, Wat Pho and Palace etc. Only 5/10 minute walk from Khao San Road, you are close enough but far enough away from the busy streets. The canal area is nice and there is a 7/11 two mins away and a great little bar on the corner (The Rolling Bar). There are a few cats near the bar with a tiny little, affectionate kitten that sleeps on a chair in the bar but lives with its friends under the subway. Tuna is only 42baht at the 7/11 so PLEASE FEED THE KITTEN!!! :D As mewing from my backpack may have been noticed at customs, I couldn't bring it home so can everyone look after her, please? She is tiny with a broken tail and likes cuddles.

Bad bits:
Nothing really but when you shower, the water goes all over the bathroom turning into a bit of a puddle which can go into the bedroom. The rooms were not checked every day so we still had a puddle on our return some days. The shower curtain was also a little mouldy. We also ran out of toilet roll with the room not being checked (inconvenient if you're already on the loo!) but I went to reception to ask for some more and it was already in the room by the time I got back up to the room!

Finally, this hotel is a great little place to see Bangkok old town and I would happily go there again. Lovely staff, friendly vibe, umbrellas to borrow if it's raining and general a top place to stay! Hurrah for Lamphu Tree :)

this place is just great. the room was beautiful. everything was clean, and the staff was very helpful. also the pool was nice and clean. we really enjoyed our stay at the lamphu tree house. and the location is just great. in just around 10 minutes by foot you can reach khaosan road, where all the action is taking place. but the lamphu tree house is located in a nice and quiet road close to a river.

We spent five nights in a room on the top floor of this lovely hotel. We particularly appreciated the hotel's design that blended teak wood finished restaurant and reception areas with comfortable air conditioned rooms. It's location adjacent to one of the city's historic canals and entrance from a pedestrian way added charm. (Don't be shocked when the cab leaves you on the sidewalk at the foot of the bridge that spans with canal, with no obvious way to access the hotel). The pool, though small, was a welcome relief in the afternoon after a full morning of sight seeing. The breakfast buffet was generous and tasty. The staff could not have been more accommodating, we were made to feel like family.

Helpful staff, close but not to far away from Khao San road especially for those who have only just arrived and need to find their feet. Great breakfast for that same reason also! Would absolutely recommended to any first timers to Bangkok.

overall, i was a bit surprised thinking about the excellent reviews
when arriving at this hotel. i think this hotel is not excellent but
rather a secondary choice. we had a deluxe room and didnt like it
much.

pros: good location, nice breakfast, clean and cold pool, comfortable bed

cons: horrible bathroom - so small you can barely turn, mold in every
corner, shower curtain rotten and musty smell - the bathroom was about
the worst i have seen in 2 months of asia. deluxe room is very small and (as so many other hotels we have seen) the ac blows right on your bed, general high noise level in the hotel with very noisy doors and lots of slamming of them.

Room Tip: i would recommend looking for a different hotel

The other reviews here say it all. I'd add a few. Their in-house restaurant is excellent/authentic, and a generous breakfast. Nice walking distance to the Royal Palace, etc (no need Tuktuk), yet in a quiet area. The pool is small but blessed relief and clean. Very helpful, friendly staff, pretty good English. It's a pedestrian only entrance, on a canal, not far from the road. Be sure and have printed name and directions to the hotel with you when hiring a cab/car from the airport. Both time we hired 'limos' there was much initial confusion about finding this location, even with the directions. There is also some potential name confusion with another hotel so be careful. As a group of four we hired a 'limo', rather than taxi, and it ultimately worked out fine. 1100Baht one time. 900Baht another time. Perhaps it's worth negotiating? If I ever return to Bangkok I would stay here. But they were pretty full so one should book early in-season.

Small cozy hotel, a little dificult to find at the first time, but on a quiet location next to Lamphu channel where you can rest peacefully. Very close to the crowdy Khao San Road (5 min walk). Special congrats to the staff of the hotel, very attencious and prestative.
