“Boxing Day in Bangkok”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2013

This is the first hotel my fiancee and I stayed in on our Thai adventure (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Bangokok, Krabi and Islands) and also this is my first review. The hotel is typical of hotels in the UK such as the Hilton and Radisson; comfy bed, soft bouncy pillows, good shower (although slightly faulty), aircon, TV and good space. Rooftop pool was cool and not used so it felt like our own...views average and better at night.
The hotel is located right next to Terminal 21 a bizare but cool shopping centre that is made out to be an airport-cant say much more as we only had time to pop in and use the loo! It is also right next to the station which is very handy and the hotel porter told us clearly how to get around and see the sights...you can get the skytrain and another train and then boat to the grand palace and Wat Pho...it has been my dream to see the reclining Buddha and it did not disappoint.
Nearby to the hotel is street full of street food vendors and quirky VW vans that are street bars. We had our boxing day day dinner on a street restaurant and it was the best Pad Thai and Red Curry I have ever had.
Anyway back to the hotel, breakfast; plenty of fruit and they can cook various things but service seemed a little slow and it was packed so we had to sit on a little sofa chair, which was not great to eat from.
Overall happy with the choice for the price.

First and foremost I do not normally write reviews but for the benefit of others have decided to start as some can be misleading and ultimately that ruins the experience for future travellers.

The first thing to consider is how to get from the airport to the hotel. We took a cab which cost 300 baht plus 75 baht for the tolls to the hotel. The traffic was horrendous to the airport and it took roughly an hour, but on a good day I reckon you could do it in 30 mins.

The hotel is situated in a very busy but fairly central part of bangkok and you can get to anywhere in the city quickly using the shuttle train or metro.

The hotel was smaller than anticipated. We were on the 11th floor, 15 in total. The room was very comfortable, massive bed and decent shower (always important). The 15th floor has a roof top pool and gym which is really quite nice. The breakfast was not the best and I noticed somebody complaining about their order taking too long. I would probably try on one day and then venture out for breakfast.

Overall the staff were very friendly but watch out for the door staff trying to sell tickets to certain events which no doubt will be overpriced.

I would stay here again for a night or two but otherwise would probably try something different.

3.5 out of 5, but on balance very good due to being good value at approximately 50-60 pounds a night.

Room Tip: Probably as high up as possible for reduced noice and better view.

The room was pretty basic but clean, the staff were all friendly and helpful. They had a computer they let us use to print off our boarding pass. We looked at the restaurant but it was very expensive so we didnt eat there. There are a few options within walking distance though so we ate out. The roof top is pretty cool, nice views across the city. There are a few sun loungers you can lie on if you wanted a break from sight seeing. The gym is tiny but has all that you need. The hotel felt a little bit out of the way, and the area didnt seem as good as where we had stayed previously. There was a shopping mall near by called Terminal 21 (not as good as NBK) and street stalls which got very cramped if you tried to walk down the street. Not many tuk tuks outside as the road gets very busy, we saw an ambulance stuck for ages as nobody would move out the way and the road was gridlocked! This makes getting places a bit tricky as there isnt a great deal to do near by the hotel. It is not a luxury hotel, so if you want a spa etc then this is not for you. If you want somewhere clean with nice staff (important in my opinion!) then this is a good option.

Room Tip: High up gives you nice views of the city

We went to Park Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok in order to enjoy quiet sleep & morning after partying on the famous Soi 11 of Sukhumvit wich is at walking distance of the Parl Plaza. The staff welcomed us very nicely and offered us the rates available on internet right away. Although we did not have any view on our Deluxe Double Room we had what we came for, a very quiet night and an excellent service from a devoted staff both in the lobby and at the Bar of the roof top which is next to the swimming pool. Moreover, the whole surrondings of the Parl Plaza are very nice and offer perfect little restaurants & massages. We highly recommend the Park Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok as a very good choice for travellers willing to stay on Sukhumvit.

Room Tip: Possibility to get an upgrated rooms for a very interesting price.

We had a really lovely stay here and I can't praise the staff enough for the kindness and attentiveness, pointing us in the direction of nice restaurants and bars (including somewhere showing the cricket on the TV!) and arranging taxis for us. I give this five stars with a little word of warning though: the location is nice but not "central" if you're after an easy jumping off point for the major temples etc. Bangkok has a shiny, air-conditioned metro system but it doesn't (yet) go to many of the main attractions, so this hotel felt a long way out for us and getting to the tourist sites wasn't as quick and easy as we hoped. If you want to be near the temples there are plenty of posh (and I think probably more expensive...) hotels on the riverside, many with their own boats taking guests to and from the main sites.
BUT...
The hotel was lovely. It's small with a cosy feel - the bar/restaurant always seemed to be open but was never busy, so it was a good place to relax in the evenings. The breakfast was lovely, especially the chef who made omelettes to taste with a range of fillings. The rooms are spacious with very nice bathrooms and comfortable beds, and despite it being set slightly back from a main road we didn't have any problems with noise. The area around feels nice and safe and there's a huge range of places to eat and drink in the vicinity. It's right next to Asok, so easy to get around (unless, as I said, you're there purely for the top tourist sites!) The metro is easy to use and cheap too. Although not "central" we went on a couple of organised tours, and guides were happy to arrange pick-ups and drop-offs from the hotel. The pool looked gorgeous but was closed while we were there, which was a shame, but the fitness centre was well-equipped. There's free wifi, which was handy.

Dear Pol,

Thank you for sharing your experience while staying in Park Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok !

We are glad and proud to hear that the team deliver the "Yes I can promise" and were able to deliver all service requested.

As rightly say, Sukhumvit area is not located near temple and general historic site but more on the shopping, entertainment side of the city. The BTS and Subway make it easy to travel to anywhere however the main Temple area are not covering these sites. The easiest way to travel to them is the take the skytrain and then jump on a public boat, it allow you to see the city from a floor level as well as enjoying the life around the river. It is a nice trip in itself.

Thanks for the lovely description of the hotel and breakfast team, the message will be passed on to them directly.

Regarding our roof top pool, it is open and make it the ideal place to dip after the temple or shopping trip.

Once again, thank you for your nice review and we all look forward having a chance to welcoming you, your family or friends in the near future.

Happy New Year 2014 !

It is a clean and tidy small hotel conveniently located near the intersection between Sukhumvit Road and Ratchadapisek Road at 5 minutes walking distance from skytrain Asoke station and 6 minutes from one of the newest and trendier shopping mall (Terminal 21). I've read some of the positive reviews for this hotel and in my point of view most of them are excessively overwhelming. It is not a luxury hotel nor a 5 stars one, however it is a great choice with a pretty good value for money.
Cleanliness is taken seriously, it happened to me to go back in my room during cleaning time and I was surprised to see a deep and thorough cleaning process taking place. Not just a routine cleaning.
Staff is helpful and friendly as often happens in Thailand.
I can't say much about restaurant as I always ate outside except for one time I order pizza in my room. If your standard of pizza is higher than Pizza Hut probably you'll be disappointed so better and concentrate on something more national thai or asian. Speaking of pizza if you want to try authentic Italian pizza you might reach Terminal 21 street level and look for Pala Pizza, they serve take away slices and it is one of the best pizza I ever tried in my life! (but this would be another review!)
I used gym room and swimming pool in the roof, both are quite small but nice and clean, however should more than 6 guests decide to either gym or swim at the same time it the place might get over-crowded. Overall I had a pleasant stay and I will consider to go back in future.

Stayed there in December 2013 on a stopover for three nights. The hotel is very close to the underground (just one stop to Makkasan station where express trains arrive from airport) and the sky train (BTS metro). Shopping centre also very close (next to metro station Asok). With skytrain (BTS), I went to the river and took the ferry from there.
Booked a superior corner room (just a few Bath more) with nice views to two sides. Nice and quiet, relatively small hotel (still a 15 stories building). Pool on roof top is big enough to have a swim. Breakfast buffet (it is cheaper if prepaid) is nice, particularly because what's on offer changes on a daily basis. So, it does not get boring. Staff is friendly, well organised, clean. Did not miss anything and would definitely consider the hotel again, if I visit Bangkok once more (what will hopefully happen as the town is just wonderful).

Room Tip: Asked for a room as high as possible, got 6th floor. Definitely okay. Paid a little bit extra for co...
