“It's the whole package that matters!”

In Bangkok, arriving at the restaurant is an achievement in itself and this restaurant is at the foot of the Surasak Sky Train Station. One look at the traffic jam on the road outside the restaurant told us that the sky train was THE only way to get to the Blue Elephant and not be frazzled. The restaurant itself is located in a beautiful bulling and we received a warm welcome. The staff seated us quickly and explained the extensive menu to us making some very helpful recommendations, taking care to ask about food allergies, likes and dislikes. The dishes were served 'family style' and the spicy-ness adjusted just the way we liked it. No, we did not leave with tongues numbed by the chilli and we had a very relaxed and enjoyable time. Especially good were the beef salad, steamed fish in bamboo and the duck & chicken curries. Excellent attentive service the whole time. Couldn't ask for more.

“So far one of the best restaurants ever!”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

Can be too exaggerated to say that Blue Elephant is the best Thai restaurant I ever tried because even if I am a Thai cuisine lover I dind't tried eneought restaurants to say that this one is the best however I think it deserves! I went to Thailand for the first time 5 years ago and in a tour group. We stayed in Bangkok for two days in a row and me and my parents decided to separate from the group for a perfect dining experience. Amongst the advices given in the hotel we went to Blue Elephant. The environment is really genuine, excelent service, friendly and polite staff and the food is from heaven. The food serving is really beautiful and you can truly embark in a Thai culture journey with the local dishes that the restaurant provide. I went to Bangkok 5 months ago however the backpacker budget didn't allowed me to spend more than a few baht!!!!! However I 100% reccomend this restaurant to everyone who's looking for a real thai cuisine dining.

“It's not just about the food”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We enjoyed a lovely meal at the Blue Elephant one evening in February. We had arrived in Thailand only a couple of days before and were still familiarising ourselves with the plethora of food choices. We were indecisive about what to order, so erred on the side of gluttony. We ordered the Royal Thai Banquet menu. The food was very good, my favourite being the massaman lamb. Dessert was unimpressive.

Initial servings were not large, but we were offered additional servings: One does not go hungry. Additionally, we ordered cocktails that were served in glasses the size of fishbowls. Huge and delicious.

The room we were seated in was attractive- a true white table cloth environment.

Service was pleasant but somewhat awkward. This is a very busy place and although we enjoyed our evening, we did not find the restaurant staff particularly hospitable or gracious. Still, I would recommend.

“Excellent restaurant in a very nice building”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Maybe a bit formel and not that cheap (actually pretty expensive for Bangkok) it's worth the effort. Great variety in Thai dishes and wine. The restaurant is built in colonial style. The staff is pleasantly correct. You have to make a reservation. Just do it!

“Overrated”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

The only advantage is that the restaurant is opposite the sky train station Surasak. Taxi drivers dont speak english and know nothing, IF they are willing to take you. This is a problem to go to a restaurant. At the reservation by telephone we were ordered not to wear shorts and slippers. As i know how to behave, i dont wear shorts when im having dinner in what should be the best restaurant in bkk. To my surprise most guests had slippers. My wife is allergic to gluten. We ordered the Royal Thai Menu. The first 2 courses were specially made for her without gluten. In the desert however, some fruit, vanilla ice and cream (not very special, even quit ordinary) they put, how shall i call it, this hollow finger of biscuit in it. We had this menu and a bottle of wine, our neighbours, who had a dinner a la carte with 1 beer, got an amuse. We? Didnt get the amuse. Why? A difference between a la carte guests and menu guests? Dont make the difference, stupid. The menu it self consisted of little pots with beef, fish, vegetables. Not very special. The day before we had dinner in Face, is good, only problem you have to drive for a few hours because the taxidriver, although with instruction of the hotel couldnt find it, anyway go there.
