I wrote a review of this hotel a few years ago and have stayed recently so though I would update my review.

It is an excellent location - close to Khao San road, with many shops and restaurants nearby, but still manages to be quiet.

Unfortunately, it seems over the years little or no money has been spent on the place. They still have the same old 4 desktop computers for internet use, but I wouldnt bother using they are far too slow to be of any use to anybody. Plenty of other places nearby for internet that are far better.

The food from the restaurant is generally OK but not great, some of the dishes I tried were greasy and quite bland. There are better options nearby for food. I think the menu is too large and the chef doesnt cook all the dishes very often. It would be better to reduce the size of the menu and focus on a few great dishes.

I found the rooms disappointing. This hotel allows smoking in the rooms and many of the rooms really stink of stale smoke. This goes for the beds and the bed linen too. The bed linen was well worn and the beds in all the rooms I had were very hard. One room I stayed in the mattress was rock solid and I ended up sleeping on the couch.

The TVs are good, if a little old, they have a decent selection of movie channels, thai TV and BBC/discovery channel etc.

Something that got me down was the lack of a FRIDGE in the room. This was a real pain in the neck because you cant have a cold water/orange juice in the morning unless you want to go out to the 7-11.

The prices for the rooms are not bad, and if u book 3 days or more you get 50B discount per night. If you want to check in early or check out late they will try and eke money out of you for the priviledge. And they still want 1000B deposit for the key which is puzzling as many other places do not ask for this. I must say I never had a problem getting the deposit back though.

I used to love staying here but just can't put up with the dark, depressing, smelly rooms. It's such a shame, with a few changes this place could be one of the best hotels in the area easily. A small inexpensive fridge in each room, a lick of paint and some new soft mattresses and this place would be top of my list next time I go to Bangkok but I don't think that'll happen. The staff are nice and the hotel has quite a nice relaxed atmosphere, but I have to say I am going to stay somewhere else next time I come.

We had a nice stay at this hotel. The hotel is nothing special, but cheap, quiet and the small rooms are OK. The service and food are average. The location however is very good! We would recommend this place if you are on a low budget and want to have a good night sleep in the Nightlife district of Bangkok.

We checked about 6 different hotels on Rambutri in October before choosing the Mango. The price (750 baht) was competitive for the quality and size of the room. The window facing away from Rambutri somehow made you forget you were living in the ultimate tourist ghetto. The A/C is adequate and the TV is larger than most. The bathroom is guesthouse typical shower on the floor but better than most because the shower is not right over the toilet. The wall mounted hot water is adequate and always worked. The beds are firm which I prefer to mushy, but in one room the bed was to hard. Having returned I think on 5 different occasion over a 3 month period I can say the service was consistent. We would email or call for a reservation and they would always say the would try to have a double but usually we ended up with the twins. I became pretty good at putting them together quickly. They always managed to have a room available for the price requested. The room was not automatically cleaned but always done promptly when requested. It is cash only and requires a 1000 baht key deposit. The internet by the reception was not reliable nor would I take a chance on the 60 baht an hour wireless. On the lower floors I found I could hijack a signal for some nearby cafe.

Choose the double or twin singles on the 3rd or 4th floor balancing between your desire for the quietest room against walking up the extra flight of stairs - there is no elevator. The more expensive suites are not worth it and appear to be noisier.

Basically, it was a reliable place to get the quietest sleep in the Khosan/Rambutri area. Other than that I don't know why we stayed there so often or like it as much as we did.

We stayed for 3 nights in February and, having stayed there before, 2 years ago I was slightly disappointed that it was looking a bit run down....
however, the hotel was fine. It was clean (but I didn;t think it sterile as other reviews had stated). we didn't book online- as they don't have a website, so we turned up and they had several rooms free.
we had a double room- with Air con for 500 baht (about £12) a night. they did have a cheaper room available which she reluctant to give us- as it turns out it was because it was situated on the 5th floor....
the hotel is just minutes away from the hectic Kao san Rd but feels lovely and peaceful as it is right next to the Wat (temple). The temple is really atmospheric and you can see the monks out and about in the early morning. it feel miles away from the craziness which is so close by.
The hotel has a beautiful outside dining area with rich, lushous vegetation which houses lots of wildlife- the frogs are noisy! But it really adds to the atmosphere and makes it feel like a real tropical hideaway. However, the mosquitos ate me alive....
There is a downside, however, the forecourt/ dining area is being bulldozed and being made into (yet another) 7-11 (the hotel will continue to function). This is a real shame, and I believe the staff feel this too.... be aware if planning to stay here as I believe building wok will start v soon!

Mango Lagoon Place was the most expensive place I stayed at in Thailand, and still a great deal. It's perfect because it is right in the middle of all of the action, without making you feel that way when you're in the room. We only spent two nights, and on the third day they stored our baggage all day. They also had a very convenient and cheap internet cafe. Didn't eat in the restaurant, but it looked good. Would highly recommend.
