This restaurant was suggested by Lonely Planet that lately has been very unreliable. Bella napoli is not highly rated on Tripadvisor. We went there any way because our first choice Pomodoro (brand new in All Seasons Place) was closed for a party. Not having tried any of the other Italian / Pizza joints, I can safely say that Bella Napoli is symptomatic of the Italian cuisine scene in this city. Bangkok is one of the rare major international cities in the world that is seriously devoid of international cuisine outside of hotels.
We had the margerita pizza and the spagheti aglio olio. The pizza is larger than the normal individual size that is ideal for cooking and eating. We could also see the wood fired oven. But what came out from the oven was very disappointing. There was no basil on the pizza. There was no flavor in the mozzarella and the sauce tasted funny. The crust was over salted. The pasta had been baked as seems to be the practice in most Italian places in this part of the world. It was not bad, but just did not taste right. The Italian owner was around all the time with a smile on his face. But we just did not get the right 'Italian taste'. But then that is true for most of Asia.
