My boyfriend and I stayed in the HI Sukhumvit in January 2014. We were very impressed with the accommodation. It is located right next to the Sky train and delicious night market stalls are directly outside its door.
The hostel itself is very clean and quiet, nicely decorated and the rooms are separated by a security gate from the rest of the hostel so it is very secure. The walls are decorated with lots of helpful tourist advice if you are interested in touring around Bangkok.
Breakfast is available free of charge every morning and includes toast, cereal, tea and coffee.
I personally can't recommend the staff of this hostel high enough. I had ordered a package from Europe but it did not arrive until after I left the hostel. Despite me constantly changing my address and making it very awkward for them, they went out of their way to personally repost my parcel and make sure that it reached me safely. A great group of people.

A group of four of us stayed here for 2 nights while in Bangkok. We had two private rooms. We thought it was a wonderful hostel and we would definitely go there again. It was on a street very famous for it's street food and we got there late on New Year's Eve (after midnight) and still enjoyed walking down the street and having a few beers and DELICIOUS food. The hostel is not close to much else but the sky train is a very short walk and that takes you to almost anywhere for very cheap and for much quicker than taxis which get caught up in traffic. The only downside to this hostel is that the staff doesn't speak that good of English so they were not very much help with recommending things. Overall though, we were very impressed with this hostel.

We arrived here at night and there is a dog barking when we are about to enter the alley to the hostel. We stay here 3 nights. On the 1st night we are facing the problems with the aircondition. And we cant sleep coz its too hot and got lots of mosquitos. In the morning we told the receptionist about the problem and she said she will ask someone to check it out. At night when we are back to the room the aircond is still not functioning. I try to sleep but i can't. So i went down to the receptionist at 2am and we are lucky they change our room. Then only i can sleep. The location is quite far from the city that u need to take a train which is around 100m from the hostel ( thong lo station) but the cost of the train is not that cheap which is the cheapest is 15 baht ( one station) and can go to 42 baht. It is pricey for us to go out to few places in a day. Basically They serve basic bfast, have a nice rooftop, friendly staffs, nice environment, safe hostel with an access card only for the guest, have a food stalls that sells non halal dishes (many foreigners eat here at night), no tv in a room. And yeah we stay at the private room with a queen size bed.

We stayed here for 3 nights in the double room, wich was ok, basic and clean, we even had travel guides in the room.
The hostel is in a quiet area, it is a good option if you want to stay away from other busy areas, like Khao San Road.
It is also very easy to get everywhere in Bangkok from here. It is just next to a BTS station, wich is really convenient.
The facilities are good and clean, with many showers in each floor. They let us take a shower after checking out, it was very nice.

The wifi works good in the lobby and in the room. We didnt have a problem logging in with an android phone and a netbook.

The rooftop is really nice and also the little garden at the entrance.

The staff was ok, but not really friendly and talktative.

In overall this is a nice hostel if you dont want to stay in the busy and noisy areas. We would come back here again.

Hi-Sukhumvit is a pleasant hostel.
Staff are friendly and happy to help, they also speak quite good English which is always a bonus in a foreign land.
Our room (a private double with shared bathroom) all be it basic, was clean, bed was comfortable and A/C worked well. The bathrooms were also clean and well kept.
The rooftop garden is a beautiful spot to relax with a beer after a day of exploring and to watch the sunset over the city.
They also provide a light breakfast of tea/coffee, cereal and toast.
A fantastic location only a couple of hundred meters, at the most, from Thong Lo BTS station and even less to some brilliant street food, but still removed enough from the busy streets to get some peace and quiet.
Wifi is free and worked well.
If staying in Bangkok and you want to avoid the rowdy backpacker scene I would recommend Hi-Sukhumvit.
All in all some minor room for improvement but enjoyed our stay here, will stay again.

Compared to other places in Bangkok, the services are quite correct. Clean rooms and bathrooms. There is a light breakfast and free tea/coffee at any time. Well secured hostel as well.
We liked the access to the rooftop with a nice view on the city (ideal for photographers!); too bad they didn't fit out the place as only a few people can really sit there comfortably - the rest of space is devoted to the laundry area.
At last but not least, the day staff aren't very smiling and friendly. They're doing their job but nothing more.
All in all, I think that it's a good spot to explore Sukhumvit. After a few days, we moved to Thewet where you can find cheaper places with welcoming staff.
