Legacy Suites Sukhumvit by Compass Hospitality

Reviewed December 11, 2009

We stayed in the Legacy Suites for the first week of our three week trip to Thailand and I can say that, without doubt, it was the best of the three hotels we used. I selected the Legacy Suites as a result of the reviews here and was delighted with the standard of the Deluxe Studio, which was sparklingly clean and spacious, had a good kitchenette, large bathroon with huge separate shower cubicle as well as a bath, settee, table and chairs and a king size bed. There was a flat screen digital TV with satellite channels. The range of channels could have been better, but this was a minor quibble. The pool is very nice and quiet. The staff were terrific, greeted us cheerfully at the beginning and end of the day as if they were really pleased to see us and were extremely helpful. The hotel is an oasis of peace and quiet even though it is probably less than 200 metres from the unbelievably busy and noisy Sukhumvit Road. Inside our room we hardly heard a thing, even from other guests either side of us or above. On the downside the tennis court badly needs resurfacing but I doubt that many people would want to use it in the heat. The hot western breakfast also needs improvement as it is rather restricted and was sometimes rather cool. The addition of just mushrooms and baked beans would make it better and the egg cook needs to understand that a fried egg "over easy" does not mean a yolk that is cooked for so long it feels like rubber. Having said all this the cold spread and fruit was absolutely fine and adequate. We were on the third floor and, unlike a previous reviewer, did not detect the slightest whiff of cigarettes either in or out of the room. We did, however, notice it in the corridor on a higher floor. I guess when choosing a hotel in Bangkok one can either choose a place that is around the margins of the old town or on the river Chao Phraya. The latter will of course attract very high rates. The Legacy Suites are in a great position for the Skytrain and Metro and have a much lower room charge. In addition, the Skytrain is due to open an extension all the way to the airport, so you will be able to miss out on traffic problems once that happens. For only about £52 per night we got bed and breakfast in a great hotel, in a convenient location for travel and a huge choice of restaurants and shops within 10 minutes walk. Try the Emporium Shopping Centre at Phrom Prong Skytrain station, with a choice of over 50 food outlets and restaurants plus numerous shops, including Boots the chemist. If we come back to Bangkok I would not even consider looking at other hotels. This offered possibly the best value for money I have found anywhere.

Dear beachluvver,

We are glad that you considered us to be the best of three hotels you stayed for the recent trip to Thailand. Thank you for taking the time to write the feedback regarding your stay with us.

Your good reviews of our hotel are appreciated, but thank you for the negative point highlighted regarding the breakfast. I have shared your feedback with our restaurant team and we are all humbled by what you have written. Thank you for brining it to our attention.

Regarding the tennis court, it is under consideration should we do resurfacing or change it to other facility as not many guests using it.

We are truly happy to know that our product and service value for your money and encourage you to come back to us again in the future.

Thank you once again and we do look forward to your next visit soon.

Warm regards,

We arrived late at night and had booked it for 2 nights before flying out. Hotel was very sophisticated and classy.A jewel in the run down street. we didnt use the swimming pool as were out shopping and sightseeing but some guests did. nice lifts to room and on arrival our luggage was taken up with us.Very spacious rooms with sofas, flat screen tvs, a mini kitchen and free bottles of water. Fridge came in very handy. Location good as trian station walking distance and bars and restaurants nearby as well as fresh fruit stalls on the corner of the street. Staff very helpful, and breakfast very tasty.
was so good we booked it again on the return journey and stayed in Bangkok for another 2 nights.

We arrived at about 9pm from Phuket and welcomed the free upgrade to Deluxe which was a bit bigger than the Superior Studio we had booked, always a nice surprise. We exited the lift on the 6th floor and immediately noticed the smell of stale smoke and although there were no ashtrays in the room and the staff said it was a non-smoking room as I had requested, the room smelt so I asked to change. They gave us the room directly above on the 7th floor saying it was the last one. It had a perfumed air freshener smell when we entered but was still a bit musty - there was even a cigarette burn in the rug. Didn’t notice this in other reviews? The rooms also both had a connecting door but thankfully our neighbours weren’t particularly noisy. I remember a bad experience at the Royal Plantation in Jamaica with a connecting room – the couple next door must have been on their honeymoon! Aside from that, the Deluxe Studio was spacious and comfortable with a small bath and large separate shower and there is free Wi-Fi. The kitchenette would have been useful on a longer stay but there was no washing machine and hotel laundry is never cheap.

We had stayed at the Fraser Suites on Sukhumvit Soi 11 a couple of weeks before so it was easy to make comparisons. The area surrounding Fraser Suites is much busier, some of the best night spots are right on your doorstep and the footpaths are completely packed with street food stalls, beer bars and stalls which are all selling the usual souvenirs and counterfeit clothing. Legacy Suites is located on a particularly quiet and low key Soi, there were a few restaurants and bars nearby but it’s only 10 minutes walk towards Asok station where things are much busier.

At breakfast there was the usual spread you would expect but make sure you don’t go too late, by 10:30 it was cleared away. Also, make sure you finish your food because there were signs up threatening you would be charged extra if you left anything! Overall, for what we had paid, Legacy Suites represented good value for money as a base for exploring Bangkok.

Dear TruerReviewer,

Guests’ feedback, good or bad, is very important for us because it helps us continuously improve our product and service delivery. Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay in our hotel recently.

We are glad that you like our Deluxe room, but regret for the washing machine. We have it only in the largest suite type.

Regarding the location, you are right, our area is quiet as away from Sukhumvit traffic so no noisy traffic sound at night, but it is convenient because it is close to both of sky train and subway station.

We are truly happy to know that our product and service value for your money. We do look forward to having you with us once again.

I chose this service apartment because of the great reviews. I was not disappointed. The rooms are spacious, cosy. The bathroom is big. The temperature of the air-conditioner is just right. The service apartment is peaceful and yet close to Asoke BTS and Phrom Phong BTS. One can really relax and unwind in this service apartment. There's not much variety in the breakfast but it taste good. I will definitely choose Legacy if I stay in Bangkok again.

PS: I hope Legacy will provide Chinese TV channels from China (CCTV) and Hong Kong (Feng Huang). This is because there are many Chinese tourists nowadays. Legacy should also cater to them.

A great hotel located up Soi 29. A bit hidden but easy access tothe SkyTrain. Spacious room. Free internet. Friendly, couterous staff. Comprehension of English was excellent.
My only minus is the neighborhood. A bit seedy. I was accosted by a lady (maybe it was a katoey or lady boy. She was a bit tall?) who tried to pick my pocket. I felt her hand trying to go into my pocket and shouted loudly, hey what are you doing? She vanished.
This has nothing to do with the holel which for the price of US $65 night included breakfast & internet. A great deal.
