The Pullman KP is located in a large area of the street and about half way between the victory monument bts and phaya Thai. Phaya Thai is also a direct stop for the airport express which is a quick way into Bangkok if you want to save ona. Taxi. The hotel provides a shuttle to the Victory monument BTS and cinema plaza? unfortunately not to phaya Thai. The shuttle saves a five minute stroll. From there it is about 15 mins on average by the time you get to Siam square on the train.
There are not many "quality" restuarants nearby to the hotel. The sukosol next door has a highly regarded Chinese and Japanese. In the street that runs down to the Cinema plaza Ther are though lots of reasonable street food stalls and several issan and local restaurant selling cheap food and beer. We tried 3 of the KP restuarants. We missed out on déjà vu as we forgot to check which nights it was opened as we had assumed it would be open all week. The Thai was ok, cheap with an advantage plus. The cuisine unplugged was ok for breakfast with a good selection of dishes. The birch muesli was excellent but the eggs Benedict were the worst we have ever had in a five star hotel. The dinner buffet we had was very average with very ordinary seafood bbq. The roasts and teh beef roast in particular were much better. If they are offering promotion prices at half price it is ok but not worth the normal 1400 baht. By far the best restuarant meal we had was at the Wine pub. The advantage plus made it very good value indeed. We really enjoyed our French bistro style meal, wine and spread of cheese with A good mix of music from the resident DJ. Well worth a visit if you want something other than Thai cuisine.
We were upgraded to the executive room which gave us lounge privileges, access to the King power lounge at the airport! two drinks not alcohol from the bar fridge a day and a couple of other perks. Although we really appreciated the upgrade I am not sure we would pay the difference in price from deluxe to executive. The staff in teh exceutive lounge are very professional, courteous and helpful. They are a good team. We enjoyed the two hour happy hour with canapés each night. A good range of cocktails, beers and spirits but no sparkling and only one average Chilean red and one white wine. The canapés varied in quality each night, sometimes very good occasionally not so fresh. Ther is enough though to mean that you could "dine" and drink there free each night. We had breakfast in the lounge on two occasions. The range on offer though is limited and if you want a buffet experience you need to eat in the rstaaurant. The ambience though is good.
The room is adequate without being special. We had stayed at the Novotel Siloam on the way over and also were upgraded to the executive room there. The price is over a third less than at the Pullman but other than being an older hotel very little difference in the quality of the and size of the room. The Pullman's bathroom though was much better as it had a bath. The room is on the small size. The tv also was small but there was a Bose iPod player which is a nice touch. There are lots of channels but we had issues Ina couple of nights with the signal regularly dropping out. Only 1 English movie channel and not the premium sports stations was a disappointment.
The pool area was being upgraded but it did not detract from our time there. We really liked the pool area. Really good towels and lounges. The area is not large but it fits the purpose. The pool was good to swim laps but way too cold to soak and lounge in. My son used the gym daily and he said the equipment was good.
Overall we enjoyed the KP Pullman hotel.
