“Best place to stay in Bkk”

This a great place to stay in bangkok..i total recommend it, rooms are ok...they have a fridge inside which is total necesary in bangkok, although they are big, they are not very modern, but you do have an open area to be, landlord is very friendly person, and think you can end up relaxing at this place in bangkok..there is also a shop open the entirely day similar to seven eleven, and also laundry machines you can use for 20 baht..and also you have place to extend you clothes...

Room Tip: most rooms have the same stuff..fridge...a.c..etc..

Stayed here for one night after flying in. Guessing its called discovery as you need to find it. It's at the top of a multi story car park! Even the taxi driver couldn't find it, we spent two hrs driving around and at four am this isn't funny. We were greeted by two males one who stank of alcohol although he was very pleasant. The room was old and stuffy with loud poor working aircon. The bathroom was bad with a manky bath and dodgy shower. The bedroom was like a porno set, mirrors everywhere even on the ceiling. All were dusty enough you could write you name in or just see others hand prints....yuk! Bedding appeared clean but didn't smell fresh. Good room if you want to have a laugh at the decor.

When I arrived at Discovery Lodge I was shocked as it was located in what appeared to me as a car park. I found the website completely misleading, the image of the room appeared adequate but the room I was given was horrible...clearly an old brothel room! ... Circular baths and mirrors. My main problem with the room was that there was another room next to mine separated by a door that I could not lock. My room was infested with ants and cockroaches. Also it was very noisy as cars and motorbikes would be riding round the "car park". Overall, horrible location and poor hygiene...a dump, i would not recommend!!

I stayed here for 3000baht for one month which was very good while doing a nearby TESOL course, however the bathroom leaks everywhere, I was fighting a roach and ant infestation, my toilet blocked up easily, the supposed serviced aspect was a joke in 1 month it was cleaned only once properly and the sheets changed on request one other time, the contact given by the college has not been here for 9 months and the new bloke running the show drinks too much and works too little, he left one student stranded at the airport after arrival, as he was busy drinking. "Recently refurbished rooms" hahaha where from the dump ? Wi-Fi access, yeah if you are within 3 rooms of the office, also the pictures on the web site are of one nice room my mate had, the rest look like old brothel rooms which they are, love mirrors above the bed do you ? My couch was literally collapsing, and the "nice balcony to relax and sunbathe on" Is the driveway around the block, where cars and motorbikes constantly drive past. Lastly after the one month special price through the college, it goes up 5000Bht to 8000 baht for a dump with cold showers and poor aircon hahahahaha, we bailed as soon as the 1 month expired. Also I would hardly describe the place as secure I climbed through my own "locked" window once after forgetting the key. Oh and not to forget the holes in the door and walls and the filthy walls, this were poorly patched and the room quicly painted after i complained politely, Don't get me wrong It was a cheap place to stay for a few weeks, but much of what they say and show on their own website is absolute rubbish, I only expected what was advertised and nothing more.

I've been staying - off and on - at Discovery Lodge, ever since a 3-month stay in 2006 to take a nearby TESOL course. For a first-timer difficult to find, but several nights there reveal on-site/nearby internet cafes; delicious food [I pay B20-30/meal] at "under-the-stairs" stalls; eclectic but manner guests; and - most of all - the person who keeps it all together [including free, spontaneous BBQs] is manager/owner, "Nina": considerate, kind, intelligent, worldly, practical. Taking the Chiang Mai train this week back to The Lodge for a couple of days.

  • Liked — Nina - and all the advice [including medical] she holds in her head
  • Disliked — Location: in the North, between Hwai Khwan and Sutisan MRT, tedious to get to the centre

I am currently doing a TESOL course in Thailand, (bangkok) and was looking for accommodationj for 4 weeks. The school recommended the Discovery lodge as it was handy.
I thank them for their recommendation.

Although on the other side of town to the backpacker crowd, the prices here at the lodge would definitely suit travelling couples.
Each room is fully airconditioned, a huge bed, a huge bath (spa / jacuzzi) and a large lounge with fridge.
The whole place as wireless internet, but if you aren't carrying a laptop, there is also free internet access in the office.

There are 31 rooms, mostly filled with travelling westerners. Eaqsy access to the subway, a 5 minute walk, easy access to supermarkets, a 5 minute walk, easy access to entertainment - just jump on a train or call a cab.

The rates are soo cheap. I am paying $175USD for 4 weeks, that is USD8.7 per night. The rooms are serviced every 4 days.
Electricity is billed seperately and there is a washing machine and dryer available for 30 baht (80 cents US)
The management are very friendly and accommodating.

All in all I would recommend this place if you wanted to escape the standard Bangkok Backpackers but still pay very budget rates.

  • Liked — the value for money and room size
  • Disliked — older building
