Phranakorn-Nornlen Hotel
Ranked #4 of 895 Hotels in Bangkok
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 17, 2008

Of the four hotels we stayed in during our 3-weeks in Thailand, the Phranakorn-Nornlen was our favourite. We chose this hotel because we liked the philosophy of this small family run hotel's web site. We were not disappointed, it is a unique, quirky and bohemian experience in the most fabulous way, quite unlike anything one might expect to find in a huge and hectic capital city.

We were delighted by the very friendly and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble and all the staff we met were cheerful and happy to help with local knowledge of places to visit etc.
The hotel will arrange transport to and from the airport if you wish, we had 6 people in our party and an air con minibus cost us 900bts. The hotel also provides several computers with free internet access for guests.

The beds are the typical hard Thai beds, and the rooms are a bit spartan but contain all necessary bits and pieces for the weary tourist i.e. good air con, shower and fresh, clean, crisp linen and towels. (see the many photo's of the hotel on tripadvisor, they are a good representation )
The tariff is Bed and Breakfast, the breakfast is a real highlight, one never knows what to expect, it is different every morning and always delicious and adventurous for us western types.

The hotel is close to Bangkok's centre, it's is an easy walk to the water taxi dock; the boat ride is the easiest and cheapest way to get around, the cool breeze is welcome and one gets a good view of the city from the river. There is a 7-11 shop on hotel street corner for convenience items, most things in Bangkok are very cheap except alcohol.

The Phranakorn-Nornlen is well worth 5 stars for the unique and friendly experience it extends to tourists in Bangkok. It is a budget hotel furnished in a quirky style but the friendly, attentive service is of the highest standard. We just wish there was a Phranakorn-Nornlen in all the destinations we visited in Thailand.
If we go back to Bangkok we will definitely stay at the Phranakorn-Nornlen again.

We stayed at PN for four nights. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The organic fare was excellent. The rooms are not fancy, but very clean and comfortable. It always felt nice to return at the end of each frenetic day in Bangkok, and relax a bit before a frenetic night. We booked here for a unique experience and they delivered as advertised. I would definitely recommend staying here.

I stayed at the PN with my husband and 7 year old daughter in December when we arrived in Asia. I can not say enough good things about the hotel and the people who work there. I decided to stay at the hotel because it would be our entry to Asia. My husband has not traveled extensively and this was our first big trip with our daughter. I had seen that the hotel was a friendly place and thought it would be a nicer welcome than the anonymity of many hotels. What a fabulous decision I made. The rooms are comfortable and clean with artsy decor, the breakfasts are fabulous, the coffee is strong, and the young people working at the hotel are real and friendly. My daughter loved being there, and didn't want to leave. We did return for our last night in Thailand before flying home and literally felt like we had arrived back home. I'd recommend this place to anyone!

We stayed in PN for 5 night with our 16 month old son. The atmosphere of the hotel is so nice and we loved the way they styled the place, it all looks so nice and a lot of attention has been given to create a warm and cozy feeling. The staff is really helpfull and we could borrow a pram for three weeks. The breakfast is excellent and we missed it a lot afterwards! The cappucino is really good too!! We would stay again, and again and again if Bangkok is not so far away!
The room is nice and clean and tea being served in the evening. Plus is it smoke free.
Overall, as you can read, we loved it!

We stayed at the PN for a few nights, after spending 3 nights at the Millenium Hilton down the river.

We should have stayed the whole time at the PN - while the Millenuim is beautiful, we realized we missed out on the culture, the people and the experience of visiting Thailand.

They gave us a ton of time explaining what to see, where to go and how to get there. When we ran into some scammers trying to get us to overpay for rides and transport, the people from PN actually loaded us into their minivan and drove us themselves, and told us what the fair prices should be for things.

I had some bad chicken on the street and had a bout of stomach flu and they brought me food and drink to help - at no charge !
The Traditional Thai massage on site was a great deal as well.

If / when we return, we would definitely stay there again.
Many many thanks to the staff for their excellent care and attention to our needs. We are very appreciative.

My wife and I enjoyed 3 nights accommodation here that stand out memorably amongst the host of other accommodation we used on our two month RTW trip.
Booking via their own website attracted a discount for 3 night booking. Also used their airport collection & delivery service which worked well & removed some of the uncertainty you can encounter when arriving in a place for the first time.
The key to the hotel's attraction is the genuinely friendly atmosphere generated by PN's people. The headline attraction is supported by charming rooms, interesting breakfasts and excellent value for money.
Location is a little out of the way but a small price to pay in the overall scheme.

Of the six places we stayed during our 3-week vacation in Thailand and Cambodia, Phranakorn-Nornlen was our family's favorite. We chose it over other hotels with typical amenities - pool, cable TV, etc, because we liked the story behind it and we wanted a different experience.

We got more than we expected with the very friendly and helpful staff, the funky social gathering place where we got to meet other travelers from all over, and the fun bohemian-style rooms. The beds are the typical hard Thai beds, and the rooms are a bit spartan (no TV, but they are clean, showers were hot, and votive candles were burning to welcome us at 2 a.m. when our flight arrived . Breakfast (included) was huge, delicious, organic, and filling enough to fuel our sightseeing into the afternoon.

The P-N is north of Bangkok's center, but it's a quick walk to the water taxi dock; the boat ride is the easiest, breeziest, cheapest way to get around. There's a 7-11 at the corner for convenience items, but nothing else close except street vendors (which are quite good). There are computers with free internet access available for guests.

On my son's 14th birthday, the staff got an ice-cream cake for him and went to his room to surprise him by singing Happy Birthday! We shared the cake around the common area and made new friends.

We also arranged an excellent guide and driver to take us to several historical locations and drop us off at our next destination, a national park 90 minutes away.

I'm giving it 5 stars worth of experience for the price. It would be 4 stars for amenities and location. When we go back to BKK, we'll definitely stay at the Phranakorn-Nornlen again.
