Beautiful, Interesting Gothic/Thai Fusion Design. We stay here now whenever we are in Bangkok - because nothing else really compares. Our first stay was part of a Birthday Trip. The Manager himself took us on a personal tour of the Loi Krathong Festival, making us a Flowered Offering to float in the river, to the Gold Mountain Temple, and surrounding areas. The Sauna/Pool, and the Festivities therein, are always fun and the Hotel itself is not far from the Happening Soi District

Room Tip: We Loved the Baroness Penthouse Suite at the top, with a view of the pool and saunas below

I have just spent 8 days in a standard barracks room. I cant understand why some people complain in your reviews. I had the time of my life and nearly cried when I left. The room was great. Who cares about communal bathrooms. The food, the sauna, pool etc etc were 100% The staff were friendly and helpful. As everyone knows the lift only goes to the 6th floor. So if your accommodation is on the 4th you have to walk down 2 flights of stairs. Its no big deal. I am 70 and never had a problem. If you have a heavy case, the staff will carry it for you. Everyone is there for one reason. It does'nt take long to make friends from all over the world. I for one will be returning next year.

Room Tip: My room on the 4th floor was great. Very quiet.

I've stayed at the Babylon B&B a few times in the past and refused to consider any other hotel on my most recent visit to BKK. Babylon has always been a comfortable and very friendly hotel with a great value for money. The staff are more than ready to help and always with a smile on their faces.

The breakfast spread is not lavish, but is quite sufficient to get one started. Also, the breakfast table is a great place to meet the other residents and some interesting conversations take place over coffee.

There are several motorbike taxis just outside the hotel gates waiting to take individuals to their destinations. The most popular destination being the Sala Daeng BTS station, which is a short ride away.

I sure will book a room at Babylon on my next visit to BKK.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 6th floor have better views, but I just love the bathrooms on the 4th floor.

good things: sauna, pool, gym
really bad thing: hotel

good things: beautiful pool, very well equipped gym, sauna very nice...
the food options were all very nice and tasty, price surprisingly very good (on the other hand they don't want you to leave... you are part of the show and meat market)
sauna offers everything... go experience yourself
even here some minor observations: (cracked) discolored plastic loungers around the pool are a nono... cleaniness? you judge yourself...

bad things: the garden suites have the size of rabbit cages... even some of the rooms in the main building are very, very small... you opt for a bigger room? than it gets pricy
why are they called BVLGARI? they have nothing to do, nothing in common with this luxury label...
breakfast is the pits! everyday the same, not many options and instant coffee (pay extra for real coffee)... if you stay longer you will have a problem with breakfast... boring and bad!
service from the hotel, reception? they are totally indifferent to your needs and concerns... totally the opposite of asian hospitality
you need a taxi, tuctuc? they call you one during the day, no taximeter... during the night? find it yourself and/or walk...

best option: choose another hotel, have a nice, big room and an excellent breakfast and buy a day pass for pool, gym, sauna for 230 baht...

Room Tip: find out yourself what you need and how much you want to spend

Really enjoyed my two days here. Clean rooms, fabulous buffet breakfast. Amazing sauna next door. I found the staff very helpful and friendly. Open 27/7 so I had no problems arriving from airport after midnight.
Having a large spacious pool and restaurant makes it easy to simply hang out if tried my doing the tourist thing.

We have stayed at Babylon a few times and decided to go for a more upmarket room at twice the price of the standard rooms. Lovely garden setting and shared lounge but the bedroom was disappointing. The Garden Suite we stayed in had no bedside tables, a small double bed and a small ill equipped tired bathroom with the sink in the bedroom. The reception manager is officious and needs to go on a customer care course but the breakfast staff are excellent and breakfast is a communal treat. Of course the pool and restuarants/bars and entertainment make for a pleasing stay, not really sure if the rooms are value for money though!

Room Tip: Perhaps the penthouse suites are the best!

Gay hotels are very often little more than glorified hostels or at best acceptable B&Bs, but the Babylon Hotel in Bangkok - which likes to call itself the gay hub of south east Asia - is evidently aiming to be a lot more than that, and on many levels, it succeeds.

Set in a quiet backwater away from the mad traffic and incessant hot bustle of the city, the Babylon is attached to the eponymous sauna and spa - arguably one of the best in the world - which offers an excellent outdoor swimming pool with cocktail bar, a quite classy restaurant right by the pool (where you can eat wrapped only in a towel), plus all the usual accoutrements such as saunas, stream rooms, 'rest' cabins, and a very good health spa with experienced male masseurs. You get two free tickets to the sauna each day - one for you and one for a friend - included in the room price (normal entry 280 Baht).

I stayed two weekends on either side of a visit to the island of Samet at the Baan Ploy Sea Resort (see separate review). On the first weekend I had a suite in the Buglari Gardens (room 801) which was spacious and well appointed - large bed and bedroom, separate sitting room - overlooking the gardens and very quiet, all done in an attractive modern Thai style. One slight design fault was that the bathroom itself had no door, so the only way to achieve privacy was to shut both doors at either end of the short corridor between the bedroom and the sitting room - meaning that your companion could not get from one to the other while you're in the bathroom. Small point, but easily solved by putting a door on the bathroom I should think!

On my return a week later I had a slightly smaller (and cheaper) De Luxe Buglari room, which was equally well appointed and spacious (though no separate sitting room). One slight niggle was that the washbasin was in the bedroom rather than in the bathroom, and you had to use the desk as a washstand - so every opportunity for getting soap and water over your laptop if you're not careful!

Everything is very clean and well-maintained. Service was friendly, if a bit dizzy at reception. Checking-in seemed to take an age, and the reception staff took a time to work out what sort of room I'd booked (even though I showed them a copy of my confirmation e-mail).

One thing that lets it down was the breakfast, which is taken on the 6th floor of the main building (so you do get a nice view); but there is a very limited choice - eggs are made to order on the hob, but there's only one chef, so if it's busy there's a bit of a queue and the breakfast service area really isn't big enough for more than about 6 people at a time. Otherwise there's fruit, toast, cereal, tea and fruit juice. Quite randomly and bizarrely, though the rest of breakfast is included in the room price, coffee isn't: you get charged 70 Baht per cup for undrinkable coffee from a machine. Why one wonders? There is bacon and sausage, but this is invariably cold as it's not kept on a hot plate. To eat, you have to sit at communal tables, which may not be to everyone's taste at that time of the morning.

The Babylon is very quietly situated, but this does have the drawback that there is nothing much within walking distance, and you need to take a taxi or tuk-tuk to reach the delights of Silom (or anywhere else for that matter); and typically there are plenty of them waiting outside the hotel when you don't want them, none when you do. The only restaurant in strolling distance seems to be a German eatery called the Ratsstube attached to the nearby Goethe Institute - but it seemed a bit perverse to eat Sauerkraut and Würst in Bangkok, so I gave that a miss.

But overall the Babylon scores pretty highly, and full marks for creating a proper luxury hotel for gay men. Let's hope it sets and example for others to follow.

Room Tip: Go for one of the rooms in the 'Bulgari Gardens' - they are more expensive, but worth the ex...
