I stayed at the Bangkok 68 for a few days in April 2018 as a solo traveler.
The hotel is not (too) far from the metro (12 min walk and around 950m). There's plenty of food stall at walking distance as well.
The reception and check in was quick and efficient, the front desk had some English knowledge but one could be a little bit more friendly.
The room was alright, it is indeed quite grey but I didn't have any trouble, the sheets were clean(ish), the AC was working, the water pressure was strong but the wifi was slow (even out for 2 nights who would have been nice from the management to give some compensation).
One of the main reason was the rooftop pool who had nice view of the Skyline. Although the sun chairs are the most uncomfortable I have ever been on, they're in metal and almost impossible to relax on it.
Overall the hotel is fine for a few days away from the hustle and bustle of the city, if you don't mind walking around 15 min. to the metro station.
You get what you pay for and although there's many accommodations in Bangkok, the Bangkok 68 is okay to spend a few days (2-3 days max tho) for budget conscious travelers.More
