Nice and quirky hotel, a very Chinese feel indeed! Hotel is right smack in Chinatown, where most people have mentioned is not to be missed as part of your itinerary in Bangkok. The entrance is unassuming and you'd have never thought the interior would be so well furnished and decorated.

Best hotel to take in the exotic sights, smells and throngs of people around the Chinatown. Be forewarned though, the area is mad with crowds and traffic jams are frequent and rather bad. The Hua Lumphong MRT is not entirely close to the hotel, about 10 mins walk but this hotel would be good for tourists wanting to take the train sometime later.

The bell hop gentleman was really friendly, attentive and on the ball with one's requests/queries. Thumbs up to him.

Breakfast was very average only, standard fare. If you could forgo it and pay less, perhaps should go ahead and do so... Food at Chinatown outside is probably more of an adventure and tastier.

Also, I felt the room was rather small for 2, about 300sqft. Perhaps I saw pictures of a more expensive room that is somewhat bigger and with a bathtub. The bed and pillows were a tad too soft for me as well.

Overall, I still think its a fine hotel with lots of character, but I'd probably try a few others the next time I'm in Bangkok. One could still stay here though if not into shopping or do not really mind the slightly off location in Old Bangkok as opposed to the Siam Centre area.

Service at Shanghai Mansion was beyond amazing. Everyone was very accomodating and helpful. The valets were great at helping us communicate to cab drivers/Tuk Tuks on where to go and answering all of our questions. They will also make sure the cabs are metered and that the Tuk Tuk's give a fair price (which can be a challenge in Bangkok).

The cleanliness was good for the most part, my only biggest complaint was our bedding was not the cleanest.

Hotel offers breakfast included each morning which is great, food was all pretty good and offered a mix of Thai, Chinese and Western options. We ate dinner one night there, and they had an excellent jazz band...but the food was mediocre and overpriced by Bangkok standards.

The location in China town wasn't really walkable to any major attractions we visited. Bangkok streets are confusing as is, so we took cabs or Tuk Tuk's. It was a bit of a trek to the tourist sites (Grand Palace, Sky Bar or even the closest subway), so for a short trip...it would have been nice to be closer. Also, don't let the very busy street fool you, inside the hotel is very quiet.

Overall, a great experience for a great value. Definitely worth it, especially if you are staying more than a few days.

We stayed 5 Nighs in Bangkok at the start of our Journey to Thailand.

This Hotel had great Rooms: Clean, Beautiful Interior and free Minibar.

The Bed was Comfortable and sleeping totally relaxing, because there was no Sound to hear from the Street.

Breakfast was good, even warm Dishes were offered and Coffee was served on the Table by a waiter.

Allover Performance of the Staff was very nice, friendly and helpful.

But here´s the ultimate tip:

DON´T GET A 40THB TUK TUK, that isn´t fun. :)

Very good Choice for visiting Bangkok, Trainstation an Boatpier is in the near (10 min. Walk), to get to the Hotspots. (Hotel offers free Transfer too.)

I stayed here for 2 nights start of January at thew beginning of a month and a half travelling around Asia. What a way to begin my trip!! I had read some negative comments on here prior to departure so was a little nervous as to what to expect. But i loved everything about this place. The staff were wonderful very patient and helpful. I slept in the first morning due to bit of jet-lag so breakfast was finished by the time i got up but staff and chef were still around and made me one of best omelette's i have ever eaten. I also love the Chinatown location, a fascinating place to explore in itself. My only regret is that i couldn't stay longer. If i ever go back Bangkok this is where i would stay.
One word of warning though beware of the old man selling hot chestnuts on street outside the hotel as he comes across as being very helpful and friendly but unfortunately he is a crook and a liar!!

This is truly a great place to stay! Most definitely my favourite hotel in Asia!

The first time I visited I was meeting my son and then going off on a motorcycle tour of Vietnam. I turned up tired, very wet and laden with a back pack! The staff were amazing! They virtually carried me in, sat me down with a welcome drink and hot and cold towels without even worrying if I had a reservation!

Nothing has changed since then. Top rate service with a smile, excellent food, rooms superb and amazing value for money.

The Shanghai Mansion is truly a pearl! It's location is perfect, right on the edge of Chinatown. The hotel shuttle can take you to most of the major sites if you plan it right. Down the steps and onto the street and you are straight away into the hustle and bustle of, for me, Bangkok's best area.
Highly recommended to all travellers.

This is the 2nd time we stay at Shanghai Inn. We received a warm welcome from Ms Tanakorn from FO. She and her staff took wonderful care of our needs. We enjoyed our stay here and only have nice things to say about this place and staff. There is also Mr Viroj from Security who seems to be so happy at all time. When you came in you will surely see his wonderful smile. Likewise when you are leaving hotel you will see no ending smile from him. He will always ask whether anything he can assist you with. We quite impressed with his caring and helpful nature.

Shanghai Inn is located at China Town where we can find plenty of delicious foods. When our legs are tired of walking then we can walk into nearby shop for foot massage. If we want to shop at MBK/Siam/Central World then we can take so many buses only 15 minutes and it only 12 baths. Most of the bus drivers and conductors are friendly. They cannot speak English well but you only need to mention the name of the place and they will nicely tell you how much you need to pay. Make sure you give them your lovely smile because they are nice people.

Many wholesales are located near the hotel. We bought many things for present for our friends and family. Most probably we will come back for more shopping here again because most of items are value for money. And we bought them by dozens.

Happy staying and enjoy life to the most!

Don't be put off by exterior and small frontage in busy Chinatown. Excellent set up and service. Only downside is you have a bit of a trek to main temples c200 tbt on tuk tuk but free hotel shuttle if you time it right.
Staff brilliant and great jazz on an evening
