I have been thee five or six times, each time better. The decoration of the hotel is very beautiful, we get good breakfast, and it is an eco-friendly hotel. The location is also very good, you just go down and you are in the middle of Chinatown, one of the best palces in Bangkok for street food. Just don´t go if you are claustrophobic, there is a glass but you can´t see outside. The staff also is very efficient and friendly.
Between the crowded alleys and street markets of Chinatown you’ll find Shanghai Mansion, a little gem of a hotel. We had just landed after an 11-hour flight and they greeted us with a smile and the traditional refreshing towels. The room was very nicely decorated in traditional Chinese style and the bed was absolutely huge. In the room there is a minibar with a couple drinks and snacks which are free of charge. My only complaint is that the room had no windows at all, so we would wake up in the morning and think it was still night outside.
Breakfast was exceptional. A large buffet with western, Chinese and Thai food, plus you can choose one of three “main dishes”.
The hotel is in the heart of Chinatown. A taxi to most places in the western part of Bangkok will probably cost around 60-80 baht, just make sure you don’t try to take taxi during heavy traffic (in fact, many taxi drivers will refuse to go to Chinatown during rush hour). It’s a 15-minute walk from the hotel to Hua Lamphong train station, from which you can take a train to pretty much anywhere in Thailand (or a subway to the eastern half of Bangkok).
Except for the window thing, there’s not a bad thing I can say about the hotel. I highly recommend it.
If you want a good sweet snack, go left from the entrance and you’ll see a guy selling Chinese donuts with awesome green coconut cream.
We were at Shanghai Mansion hotel in Aug 2011 for 5 nights. It is at heart of Chinatown. I would say it is GREAT hotel ever. Great modern interier both in commond areas and guest rooms, Staff was welcome helpful. Mini bar stuff (in room) is free of charge, YES, FREE OF CHARGE which is included beers, pop, snack, chocolats and etc, what ever you can see in the fride, all is free and fullfill for you everyday. Hallway, there are desks games and also free snacks provided. Can't describe how great this hotel is. Thanks for such a supurb hotel.
WoW! This is one of the most pretty hotels I've ever seen it is located in China Town which is a funny place pretty loud but you can't here anything from inside the hotel.
The rooms are super pretty the shower was great Internet was free and fast! Breakfast was really good.
They had an Thai and european buffet as well as an assortement of freshly prepared items.
The Concierge are always happy to organize an taxi and you can be almost sure they will bring you to the right place.
If its not rush hour go by taxometer we discovered that on our last day and it was so much cheaper!
If you get in a taxi make sure to tell the driver to go to the place right away and that you don't wanna go to some random market first. I did it all the time and never had a problem
Don't believe in TuckTuck drivers when they tell you the attractions you wanna go to are closed they just wanna sell you some other stuff.
From the hotel you can also walk to the pier and take the boat to the temples. Its a cheap and funny alternative.
I'd alway go there again on a trip to Shanghai
This is a great hotel that provides a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of Chinatown. Nicely styled rooms with everything you need to enjoy your stay.
You are right in the middle of Chinatown which is hectic to say the least. The streets surrounding the hotel aren't for the faint hearted, so consider this before making a booking.
