“Reviewing "Shanti Phuket"”
Reviewed April 1, 2012

We came to stay in Shanti Phuket by mistake. We had, had a hideous two day bus journey to Phuket and got to our pre booked accomodation on New Years Eve and it was nothing short of dreadful?! Looked in the Rough Guide in desperation and found Shanti. We had planned to stay for just two nights and ended up staying for two weeks. Loved the rooms and the outside bathrooms are v.cool :) Fantastic food, caters for all, huge variety and the veggie and vegan food is amazing- price is super reasonable too. Loved the fact that Shanti is away from the main touristy parts of Phuket (hire a bike and then you can have the best of both worlds). Room prices are super reasonable too and are cleaned every third day, which we found was great. If you are expecting 'service' here, then don't. The bar operates on an honesty basis, so if no one is serving, help yourself and make a note of it on the pad. If you want food and no one is serving, go into the kitchen and ask :) :) Staff could sometimes be friendly, at other times very off hand, almost rude. However, all the positives out way this, so we would definitely recommend Shanti to others and will return to stay :)

How do they still have a business???

You are greeted at reception with little more than a GRUNT (if you are lucky) once you have booked and are obliged to stay the night. You are then considered little more than an annoyance. And if you are able to pull one the multitude of staff away from their laptops / I-pad whilst playing online poker to order food etc you are treated like some kind of peasant begging for alms. Apparently the staff feel they are far too wealthy to consider treating tourist with any form of respect or courtesy. Would only recommend this place to someone I really dislike (possibly my mother in-law) or a person who is into some strange form of self abuse. Anyone else unfortunate to stay here shouldn't think all Thai's are like this (they are not) well maybe only the Ko-San tuk-tuk drivers, who may in all probability be married to these woman.

But for any first time visitors to Thailand stay well away from this place or it may leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Room Tip: DONT do it if you wish to have a nice holiday...!

The Shanti lodge is a very chill relaxed hidden oasis that offers a break from the crazy kata patong beach scene.
When we arrived there was a mixup on our reservation but Kim the owner was great, she always makes it work which helped us recover from our long airplane journey.
The main bonus/challenge is the location, it's off the beaten track and a major road. The road is horrible to walk on. So you must taxi/ saw thang everywhere or get a motorbike ASAP. Once we obtained wheels our options and appreciation of chalong started.
The other challenge is the service,
Being proactive is the key to shanti lodge.
This place is soooo chill that if you expect any type of service you will be disappointed or frustrated. The staff is friendly and kind just not service oriented. At one point: twenty minutes after ordering food we were informed that the cook left to take a shower and food would be cooked in perhaps 30/40 minutes.... Real relaxed. They do follow through on taxi service quickly and adequately.
The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, very clean. Over all a great place to stay and relax.

650 bahts/night for a double room with bathroom (cold water) and fan.
Located in Thewet, close to Chaoyang river (5 mins walk from stop no.15 for Express boat). The location is great, there is a bunch of guesthouse and lots of food in the street. You can also eat there, the food was pretty good! Almost 15 mins. walk from Kao San Road. The room was clean but there is still problem with cockroaches such as many places in Bangkok. The staff was not very helpful with us. Do not the same error as us, take a room with window to avoid suffocation even if there is a lot of noise from outside!!!

Can't find Shanti Phuket on Tripadvisor so we're leaving a review here.

We've stayed at Shanti twice, 2007 and 2011, whilst travelling with our young daughters.

We love the place, it's good value, beautifully set up and the restaurant serves food that both our (fussy) kids will eat.

The Owner, Kim is just wonderful - she can't do enough to help and is a font of knowledge about the island.

We found it all too easy to sit up late chatting with the hosts and other guests over a glass or two.

We wouldn't stay anywhere else!

We landed in BKK at night and had reserved a room at Shanti ahead of time at no cost. The restaurant is fantastic, the staff is nice even though they dont speak much english and the rooms were clean. Dont expect anything fancy though. The bathroom and shower were outside and the beds were rock hard like the rest of Thailand.

I stayed in one of the nicer rooms on the third floor. There's a constant buzz of motorcycles... but I also did not use AC. Chances are if I did, it would have been fine-- but I hate AC. Earplugs definitely helped.

Food is amazing... not cheap, but worth it.
