“Best value in Bangkok”
Reviewed December 24, 2013 via mobile

I always stay here when I am in Bangkok. It is a great location. The rooms (especially the upgraded ones on 6th floor) are extremely good value. But best of all, they are very service oriented. It's hard to believe they can be all of that for under $40 bucks a night.

I have stayed at "The Malaysia" before and am still amazed at how unique+special it remains.
I arrived after a long series of flights and after checking in went straight to the SPA for the 1st time.
My 2 hour massage was fantastic, ironing out the knots+stress of the previous journeys.
The coffee shop/restaurant are great and the deep pool a swimmers type.
Local bars and street food are near and excellent as are.bank,ATM and money exchange.
I know that it has not been renovated since the 60s when the Malaysia was a R+R for American officers serving in Vietnam, but nor has the room price.($25 per room)..
So pleased to find nothing has changed at this charming and quirky oasis.
Still a favourite with the gay traveller,so homophobos "walk on bi".

Bangkok would not be the same without The Malaysia .
Thanks Hetropete

Room Tip: Bbook in advance as the Malaysia is allways busy

An exotic location to spend time with your family. Even couples would enjoy here. Good time to spend towards pool side and of course never to miss the spa as it is something different. Customer service is good. Food has varieties but can be a bit better. Overall nice stay as they also do have some activities for children. Good value for money in terms of room charge and service

I travel to Thailand at least twice a year, and whenever I need to stay over in Bangkok for 1 or 2 days, this is the place for me. I found this hotel by chance around 10 years ago. Its not modern for sure but recently they have started to upgrade the rooms in the main building. The rooms and bedding are cleaned daily, the older rooms are a bit tired, but are still kept clean and tidy. The staff are friendly and polite and will help with your enquiries whenever possible. great for singles or a group, the rooms are quite large, compared to some hotels in Bangkok. The restraunt has a varied selection of European and thai food and is open 24hours and it also has a pool, so, at around 1100 bht a night its great value for money. Its a 10 minute walk to the Lumpini MRT and taxi's are easily accessed from outside. All in all a great place to stay on a budget.

Room Tip: There are many rooms available, at varied prices so it will depend if you are traveling alone or in...

Malaysia hotel is actually not bad at all. Do not let the first impressions fool you.
We had a very good stay. Any cons ? Yes location wise not perfect but ok.Breakfast is not included but the prices in the restaurant is very affordable.
Their "all night" service with food and drinks is outstanding.

There a many more upmaketed hotels in Bangkok but this is one of the most efficient hotels I have ever stayed in. All the amenities you require are there all the staff know their exact role and resposibility.
If you are looking for luxury then this is not the place for you but if you want somewhere where you will get all you need at a budget price delivered just right then you can't go wrong here.

The hotel is old, tired and in need of a general renovation. Slightly overpriced for what it offers. It charges for WiFi and in room tea/coffee in all but the most expensive rooms. There is a 24 hour restaurant where the food is reasonably priced but quality depends on which chef is working - night chef is best. Staff can be helpful but they have all worked there for many years and are very settled into their routines!! Positives are that the hotel is easy going about overnight guests for the single traveller and the location is perfect for shopping and nightlife - Patpong night market is a 50 Baht taxi ride away. 711 shop 3. Mins away and plenty of taxis out on the street.

Room Tip: Pay extra and get a room in the separate House or on the 6th floor of the hotel
