“Great Hotel and great city!”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

Very upscale hotel in the heart of the city. Room was perfect, service nice and restaurants excellent. Pool area was very relaxing and massage service awesome. Shuttle boat at private dock a bonus! I would stay over and over again. Good for families and singles.

We pulled up the hotel drive under a massive 30-car two-story concrete canopy with a fountain and two reflecting pools and the door man and chauffeur exhibited manners of gentlemen and the smiles of the Asian people. With our third currency calculation in ten days and a factor of $1 US = .03 Baht, I am afraid the 20 Baht tip (70 cents) I provided the chauffeur for the hour ride was not enough but the driver acted gracious.

Upon entering this modern high-end hotel, the front desk attendants who greet customers checking in guide us to a friendly and warm seating area away from cold marble of the hotel counter. We were offered an upgrade and, being the typical wary American traveler, I supposed the ploy was to take some more dollars.

Since Mindy had already ‘upgraded’ once when making the hotel reservation on points, and we were tired from the long day in Penang and starting to nip at each other’s nerves, I asked to see both the current room and the upgrade room. The original room had a view of the Chao Phraya River from a picture window on the side of the hotel, a king size bed with some comfortable sitting chairs and a nice looking bathroom. Travelling to the seventh floor for an inspection of the upgrade room, “the best in the hotel”, we entered into a large sitting room with couches and chairs surrounded with windows providing a panoramic view of the Chao Praya River through three picture windows providing a view of the many boats lit up at night. In the bedroom, there was a king size bed with a bathroom with a jetted tub and adjacent to the sitting room was a desk of ten feet in length positioned closely to a second half bath which made the upgrade decision easy. A second toilet, oh yeah! Still working on the Baht to dollar conversion, 1,000 baht per night sounded like significant upgrade cost but the $33 conversion was a bargain. This room with the couch and desk area provided an excellent opportunity to have some space for Mindy and I to enjoy our personal time.

Once signed in to the upgraded room and having built some faith with the hotel staff we went up the executive lounge to indulge in some complementary appetizers and beverage. With the late hour the lounge was preparing to take down the snack table and bar but we were fortunate enough to grab a double and plate before it was dismantled. The lounge also provided complementary iPad which Mindy had been practicing on sine the BMW ride. The connectivity in the Asia network provides very slow downloads on certain application like Mindy’s Comcast but worked well on her Facebook and my Gmail. Once we finished the complementary food and drink we walked to other end of this roof top level to find an outside cocktail lounge.

This location proved an outdoor environment with ambience of comfortably padded seats and attractive wait staff. After enjoying a couple rounds and the complimentary snack food, I engaged in conversation with some American travelers from the San Francisco area who had been travelling in rural Thailand for several weeks and they offered many interesting river stories. With the late hour and not eating since lunch with Jason, I decided to order some room service instead of attempting the streets of Bangkok at a late hour. The tuna sandwich and calamari was excellent but with the bottle of wine, the order came to $100 so that was our last hotel meal, except the complimentary buffet breakfast every morning.

Although we had adjusted to waking up in four different beds over the last two stays, this sleeping arrangement was the most comfortable and the hotels amenities are second to none. The complimentary breakfast waiting for us downstairs needed to be held off for showers, dressing, and a room service pot of coffee also complimentary when placing your wakeup call. The breakfast buffet was even more comprehensive and impressive than the Lone Pine set-up. The cuisines ranged from American and English to Japanese, Indian and Arabic, and the volume of food types was more expansive than previously experienced. Breakfast is always the most important meal of the traveler’s day because you never know what or when the next offering will be presented. For that reason, we enjoyed large portions of the American and English cuisines.

If you enjoyed my story please check out some additional writing on the travel blog; http://shoethieves.blogspot.com/

Room Tip: Take the upgrade if offered.

We booked the hotel via the web site "GREAT GETAWAY W/ BRK"
All the staff were very nice and helpful especially the housekeeping "BuddyMAN".
We stayed while there were many tourist groups so we missed the wonderful breakfast. One day we came at 8:00 and the restaurant was full! (Don't have to tell you how the buffet looked….) The next day we came after 9:00, hope to have a nicer meal but like the day before, there were a lot of dishes that were missing. The staff couldn't keep up with the people and they looked and were tired.
In a city like Bangkok maybe it's better to book a hotel on the right side of town and on the same level as Hilton…….

This hotel is one of the best I have ever stayed! Everything was perfect! Starting from the beginning: the hotel shuttle boat is working perfectly, in time, professional and helpful staff, smiling staff, every 20 min reaching the SkyTrain station Saphan Taksin. Hotel team members are as well very friendly and smiling! Check in very fast and professional. Breakfast is unbelievable: so many different kind of food and live cooking Chef's! I could spend hours just for breakfast! The room was very comfortable with spectacular view over the Chao Praya River. The bed is the most comfortable bed in the world, you could sleep in any position and your back does not hurt after hours!!!! The pool at the 4th floor is a unique experience with sun beds over the water! Especially in the evening it is so romantic! Me and my partner even tried the gym and it was very well equipped and modern and also offering a kind of view over the river. To conclude we had two delicious fruit cocktails at the Three Sixty Open Air Terrace (different than the Three Sixty Bar, both in the rooftop). Music was very good and making the atmosphere very young but at the same time romantic with candles and small sofas for two people. I wish to come back as soon as possible!

On a first trip to Bangkok, my friends and I booked rooms through Hilton.com for the Millennium Hilton. The "Great Escape" packages are great if you are staying longer than 1 or 2 nights.
On arrival (late night) I was warmly greeting and upgraded to the Executive Floor based on HHonors status. The hotel is somewhat grand with unique artistic pieces in adorning the walls. The hotel is secure with key card access to the guest floors via the elevators. My room, although fairly small was well equipped with a great view over the river giving an amazing view both during the day and at night. The room was comfortable, standard hilton bed and a great bathroom with separate shower cubicle and jacuzzi bath. Housekeeping/turn down services were outstanding as was the late night room service on the night I arrived. The Executive Lounge, located at the top of the hotel provided great views and good quality breakfast, afternoon tea and evening drinks/snacks. We ate dinner at Flow and lunch at Lantern on a number of days and although the order was taken incorrectly a couple of times and on one occassion a dish was undercooked, the service recovery was excellent and the service consistent. The cleanliness and daily servicing was consistent and the Hilton "Magic" guest services were very efficient. The hotel boat service across the river is very handy and makes Millennium Hilton the perfect stop for business or leisure guests.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor and request a river view!

If i'm not mistaken I've been to this hotel for 4 times already. Each stay was good though we could expected human errors in some departments...

Such as in Dec 2011, our reserved non-smoking room had been sold to previous guests as a smoking-room. It took hours till the hotel got rid of the nauseating smells.

Additionally, after some of the nice and capable front office staffs accepted the job at Okura Prestige Bangkok (not open back then, but is open now), I had to face some brutal responses from a male front office staff on duty.

But... I still prefer this hotel to other riverside establishments. Due mainly to the lobby and the Flow restaurant which look very nice. The room condition is a bit worn, and I had allergies the last time I stayed here. Yet it is acceptable to me. And I will be staying there this winter again.

The amenities provided now are by Peter Thomas Roth (not Crabtree like before). They smell as nice.

What cant I say about this property.

The service the location and the food....

Stayed in one of the suites which overlooked the river, it was absolutely breath-taking. To be able to look out the huge glass windows and see Bangkok by night was awesome. The suite was spacious and the room was absolutely gorgeous.

Breakfast was amazing and so were the evening canopes and drinks in the executive lounge. We had access to the lounge during the day and it was awesome the view from the very top floor.

The service of all the staff was nothing less than 6 star.....

The swimming pool in wonderful and lounge chairs and beds around the pool area are wonderful.

The private spa pools are so nice and reminded me of the ngawha bath's back in Rotorua, New Zealand.

I recommend this property to anybody that is looking to stay in Bangkok.

They have a free boat shuttle that will take you to the metroline or across the river for shopping or to catch the ferry boats up and down the river.

Highly recommend this property.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny and the views are amazing
