I stayed here for a week when I first got to Thailand. It's location is 20 mins walk from Kao San road if you like that. The sky rail is an 70 baht taxi fare away.

The rooms are ok, average size with fridge, air con and sofa. My bathroom floor was always wet due to a leak from somewhere.

The staff are reasonably friendly however and the beds very comfortable. The price is good at 850baht a night.

If you are on a budget but still want an en suite room rather than basic shared - this is the place.

We paid 1300 baht (about £26 or $34) for a double room, this is mid range for Bangkok). This is a good hotel.

The rooms were well decorated and very clean. There was a fridge, kettle and TV. However the three big problems with this hotel were all related to the room:
1. The bathroom was cramped.
2. The kettle was defective, and wouldn't switch off. By the time I realised , I burnt my hand and eventually had to pull the overheated wire out of the wall with a cloth.
3. The air con was really noisy, a big problem if you are a light sleeper.

Moans over with, the service was excellent. On our return to Bangkok we paid twice the price for a really posh hotel, the service was much better at Swana. Room service food is excellent value. Extra services like laundry are reasonable for a hotel. Included breakfast is limited choice, but good.

Location is good, but not perfect. Its a little out of the tourist heartland, which I was quite happy with, but still only a 10-15 min walk to Kho San road or a short taxi trip to any spot in the old city.

Reception staff speak reasonable English, but not brilliant. They are very pleasant and helpful though- frankly it was the uniformly positive attitude of the staff that turns my review from just ok to very good.

Room Tip: Make sure you print a detailed map for your taxi driver, and have the hotel's number ready becau...

When travelling to Bangkok, prepare yourself for a culture shock! Flagging down a taxi and getting to this hotel is not an easy task, despite it being on a main road towards one of the many bridges that spans the rivers.

The hotel is clean and decorated tastefully. Not as glamorous as the website pictures allude, we still had a very pleasant stay in The Swana - which Thai people pronounce Saa-Wan-Aaaa.

Conveniently located for Koh San Road, we found a bit cumbersome getting to Lumpini Park, MBK and the Royal Palace.

Avoid getting in random Tuk Tuks outside the hotel - they're keen to take you to a tailors. Also don't engage in conversation with random Thai people on the street who ask you where you're from - they're simply attempting trying to get some money out of you. Although don't let this impact your impression of Thai people - as the majority of them are all lovely.

MBK Centre is a long taxi ride, however worth it! Shop til you drop!

Although we had a great stay in the Swana, I think in future we will look for something more centrally located when staying in Bangkok.

Strangely enough, this was one of my favourite hotels in Bangkok. I was on a budget and all the hotels near the Khaosan Road seemed to be full and then i stumbled across this one.
Very clean and stylish, away from the touristy bit but within a 2 minute taxi ride away. super clean room and ensuite, large comfy bed and sofa, all the usual necessities (a/c fridge etc)
1200 Baht a night was worth every penny. very courteous staff,
Oh, and by the way, taxis to everywhere from here appear to be much cheaper for some reason.

Probably the worst thing about the Swana is finding your way there (even though it's on a big, well-known road). Eventually you realise that taxi drivers expect you to pronounce it "Sa-wa-naaa" and the street should be pronounced "weesoot-kassat road". A top tip is to pick up a hotel business card at reception and use it to show the address (written in Thai) to taxi drivers!

Anyway. The hotel itself is affordable and clean. The rooms have comfortable beds, free cold drinking water in the fridge, air conditioning and wifi. It's not noisy, so you get a good night's sleep - but the doors aren't particularly well soundproofed so you do hear if anything's going on in the hallway.

We arrived really early - about 9am - and we were allowed to check-in early without any fuss (which was great). Our room didn't have an iron or ironing board in it - one quick call to reception and they brought one to us. There was an issue with our safe - one quick call to reception and someone was there literally within 2 minutes to fix it.

The hotel has a little café where you can get snacks and drinks.

Location-wise - this hotel is good for getting to Khao San road, but you kind of need a taxi to get anywhere else. (Ask the taxi drivers to use the meter or you'll get ripped-off).

As an aside - beware of Tuk Tuk scams in the area - and beware if anyone mentions a tailor's shop called "Bobe" or "Bobe Collection Group." It's a real tailor, but there are some very elaborate scams going on to get you there and trick you into buying overpriced suits.

Hotel felt safe, and had a 24 hour reception with a security guard. Not much else to add, really! Better than a Travelodge - not quite Shangri La luxury, but it was exactly what we needed.

We arrived at 9.30pm and left the next morning at 6am - so it was just somewhere to sleep. Very clean, comfy bed, a/c and free wifi. We arrived from Cambodia and were going to Kanchanaburi from Thonburi railway station the next day, so it was conveniently located.

We found some difficulty getting a taxi driver at Bangkok´s main railway station to take us to the hotel. Most didn´t seem to know where it was, which was surprising as it´s on a busy road.

Don´t think I would want to stay more than a couple of nights, but it served our purpose very well. Breakfast was not included in the price.

I stayed here with my girlfriend on the first night of our 4 week trip in Thailand. It was clean, it had air conditioning and it definitely did the job we needed it for... A place to sleep. It had no frills, pool, breakfast or extras but as far as a place to rest your head after a long flight it was great. Only thing we didn't like was the location. It was on a busy road without much around. Could walk to khao San road in less than 10 minutes but there are places closer by if you can get deals on them.
