“pretty good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

This was the last hotel on my tour through SE Asia, and i stayed here for 2 nights. I found the location to be pretty good, we were about 10 minutes walk to the markets and the nightlife. The wi-fi worked ok, and the buffet breakfast was great with plenty to choose from. I stayed on the 5th Floor, the room had a little balcony which was nice. The room had came with all the amenities and the bed was comfy. For travellers on a budget - this is a great little place to stay.

Hotel de Moc is the best bang for your buck hotel going around. We have stayed here twice, both times as a Geckos tour start Hotel. Large clean air conditioned rooms with a view of the pool and the leafy gardens. Good location and a very good massage can be had by the pool too. Far and away the best budget tour start hotel we have ever stayed at, it may not be for everyone but this hotel is a bargain, has some chic style and a great feel

Room Tip: Make sure your room has a view of the pool.

Dear Hussain R,

Thank you for taking the time to write a few comments on Trip Advisor about your recent stay at our hotel.

We appreciate your kind words about our retro fitted rooms and the owners collection of classic motor cars. The collection of cars is a unique and popular feature of our hotel as a lot of these cars are very old and have been imported from around the world.

We look forward to your 6th visit to the Hotel De Moc.

My wife and i stayed here for 4 days while waiting for a flight to Phuket, in hindsight this may have been a tad too long but nevermind. The hotel looks a little run down from the outside but you get that impression anywhere in bangkok. I got 4 nights here for the price of 1 night in a premier inn and the location was great, you are within walking distance to Kho san road, Democracy roundabout, Monument Bridge, Wat Po and the Grand palace however if you dont wish to walk its about 200baht in a taxi. The room was always clean and although it had an old TV with a very limited selection of channels it had one..

The buffet breakfast was nothing to rave about and the hotel restraunt is vastly overpriced for what you get, there is a jazz bar down the road over the canal called Brown Sugar and they do some very nice food with live entertainment.
The pool is small but deep and also when we stayed it was clean but due to the location there is always some leaves/blossom in the pool. Although i didnt partake in the spa facilities they look like basic thai style massage with 60 minutes worth of massage being offered for 300baht.

Overall i would recommend this hotel for a few nights if you are in bangkok purely due to the location and the value for money.

Room Tip: Most rooms come with fully functioning aircon and a four poster bed, the room was always clean with...

Dear Peter R,

Thank you for staying at the Hotel De Moc during your recent trip to the busy city of Bangkok.

We are pleased you liked the hotel’s location, situated within walking distance of a number of unique and diverse city attractions.

We were sorry to read you were not impressed with our breakfast selection and the food choices available in our restaurant. Our Food & Beverage Manager does try and offer a variety of breakfast options for many different nationalities and at our restaurant we have a good varied selection of Western & Thai dishes at competitive prices.

Thank you for your feedback relating to our swimming pool. Unfortunately, during the time you stayed here it was the rainy season in Thailand, this means that sometimes in the evening it gets very wet and windy. As a direct result of this more leaves & blossoms fall into our swimming pool. Our Engineering & Housekeeping staff work hard each morning to clean this area, remove anything from the pool and get it ready for our guests to use. We do try our best to keep our pool in top condition and as clean as possible.

We are pleased the overall you had a pleasant stay here and we hope you would consider our hotel again for a short city stay in the future.

Kind Regards

I stayed for 3 times in the Hotel Democ. The hotel is old, conservation is reasonable. The breakfast was more traditional Thai before. It is very close to Khao San Road and several temples. And yet the rooms are quiet. The reception staff is helpful even though some speak little English. This last time I missed electric kettlein the room. Cleaning is reasonable, but can improve. In the pool area you can have an excellent traditional Thai massage. It's more expensive than in Khao San Road, but worth it.

Dear Miriam Leone,

Thank you for staying at the Hotel De Moc three times during your recent vacation to Thailand.

We are glad you had the opportunity to enjoy relaxing beside our swimming pool and also took the opportunity to try our traditional Thai Massage service.

Our masseurs have recently started offering Thai Massage lessons for guests who are interested in learning some of the techniques used in this fascinating facet of Thai culture.

We are delighted to know you were happy enough with our service and returned several times during your vacation. We appreciate all your kind words and hope you will choose our inner city hotel again in the future.

Belongs to Buddy group. It's a old hotel, newly renovated. The rooms are comfortable, you can see it's an older hotel which is renovated. This group made an effort to make it clean and better. It is not easy to find a reasonable hotel in this old area of Bangkok. If you not want to stay in the backpackers area of Banglaphu, this hotel is an excellent chose. The reception and restaurant are nicely decorated. Buffet breakfast is great. Free WIFI service throughout the hotel. Outside is a nice swimming pool and also a coffee shop. Many oldtimer cars and motorbikes on display outside. This hotel is good value for money. Just a few hundred meters away from Banglaphu and major attractions.

I was surprised by the good reviews this hotel has after our stay this past weekend. Super overprized for what it offers. Lobby smells like old sewage, which went all the way to the resturant.
Breakfast was ok, nothing too good about it, but ok. Our room ("deluxe") was on fifth floor so it had a view which could distract us from the old furniture, wall cracks, bathroom mold and dirt, robes full of holes, not working lights and dirty sandals.
We had the bad idea to order a burger to our room, which we were unable to eat as it had chunks of fat in the patty.
The biggest problem for us was it was not so close to anything and taxis and tuktuks had trouble knowing where to take us when we showed them the hotel card. If I could walk long distances it would be fine, but if not it can be a problem.
pool was lways full, although a great break after a long day. Massages were really nice. 100 baht more expensive than others but nice.
ah! bed was so uncomfortable that the massage was a must after 2 nights of sleep.

Room Tip: choose a different hotel

Dear Maca333,

Thank you for choosing the Hotel De Moc and for taking the time to write an online Trip Advisor review of your recent experiences.

We are very sorry to read on this website that you were very dissatisfied with the services and facilities we provide at our hotel.

The Buddy Group takes constructive feedback such as this very seriously and we would like to apologize to you for any perceived lack of customer service on our part. Your comments have been noted and passed to all the relevant Department Managers to study and implement changes where they are needed.

Your Deluxe room on the 5th floor has a good balcony view of our swimming pool and beyond to the beautiful nearby temple of Wat Tritosathep. From the on-line comments and guest questionnaires we have received over the last 6 months, we feel these rooms are very popular and ideal for a short city stay.

We understand that our retro 60’s style rooms may not be to the taste of all our guests. We have 92 rooms in this hotel and since our company took over in 2009 we have installed new wooden floors in every room as well as replacing new curtains, baths, beds and a whole host of other essential items. It is simply not true that everything has been left and neglected.

Your comment regarding the quality of the room service you ordered has been shared with the Hotel’s Food and Beverage Manager, who will investigate thoroughly this incident.

Regarding the price for a massage at the Hotel's swimming pool area we feel it is consistent with the prices charged by similar hotels in this area. We do not believe we significantly overcharge on what is a professional service offered by our spa team.

The hotel’s location is approximately 10 minutes walk away from the world famous Khaosan Road area of Bangkok. This popular tourist destination can be easily reached during the daytime through our complimentary Tuk-Tuk service. At night the hotel is between 40-50 Baht from Khaosan.

Maca333 we are sorry you experienced so many difficulties during your stay and hope you were able to enjoy a short vacation to Thailand.

Kind Regards
