Stayed for a few nights in a standard room with a balcony. Room and bathroom were large and clean and balcony was nice, overlooking the pool and city. Hotel is near a main road, however there was no road noise in the room. Staff were friendly and helpful, short taxi trip to Khao San Road markets, although there isn't much within easy walking distance (for Thailand - within 10 minutes). From the airport I recommend catching the train to the last stop then a taxi (the driver initially said that due to a public holiday he didn't have to use the meter and quoted us 500 baht, when we demanded he stop the taxi so we could get out, he lowered the price. So, get the taxi drivers to use the meter!!)

Pool area was great and getting a massage by the pool was lovely. Can get drinks and food delivered to the pool and there is nice restaurant in the hotel as well as a small bar/outdoor eating area as part of the complex.

Overall, hotel is tired but reasonable and we enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at this hotel 24 years ago and wasnt disappointed. Stayed four nights. My wife wanted a swimmimg pool on the ground in the open away from traffic fumes and it delivered. Great massage ladies. Staff were all friendly and helpful, especially the front guys who get you the type of transport you want and haggle the price for you. Use Taxis as they are cheaper. Harder to get back to at night though. All you can eat breakfast but didnt eat at night in the resturant as there are cheaper palces close by, try the Rolling Bar down the road when guys are playing live. Walk the narror lanes around as its safe.Great to have the balcony to dry clothes during day. Had adjoining rooms for kids which worked well. We arrived a day early which was okay but dearer than booking ahead, but taxi from airport had no idea were it was, so get instructions, map etc in Thai before hand. Once there the little cards are a must from the hotel. Will stay there again hopefully before another 24 years is up.

Thank you for your kind words and your great Trip Advisor review.

We are glad you enjoyed your recent stay with us and were able to make the most of our open air swimming pool and the attached massage facility.

Thank you for also mentioning the assistance our door staff provided in offering both advice and help with navigating around Bangkok’s busy city streets.

This is a nice hotel near Khao San Road and is great for just a solid hotel to stay in at a reasonable price.

I thought it was perfect and the staff were helpful until I spoke to a friend of mine who was Thai and I realised we got ripped off.

The staff told us our airport taxi cost 500 baht which is at best double hte price it should be.

That was bad but I really wanted to see the floating markets when I was there and the staff told us the only way you can go was to get up at 7am to make an hour and a half journey which we couldnt do with our plans.

My friend then told me there are floating markets 15 mins up the river and they just do that to take you to another factory to make money out of you.

Fair enough that everyone in Bangkok is trying to mug you off but I thought the hotel could at least be honest with you - as a result I missed out on one of the best things to see in Bangkok

Dear Sean M,

Greetings from the Hotel De Moc.

Thank you for choosing to stay at our Bangkok hotel and for taking the time to write a review of your experiences on Trip Advisor.

We are pleased to read you enjoyed your time here and felt the hotel was a reasonable price and that our service staff were helpful and friendly.

Regarding the price for a private taxi the 500 Thai Baht is consistent with the prices charged by other hotels in this area to travel across the city to the International airport. However, we do also advertise a mini-van facility to the same location, which departs at regular intervals throughout the day, for only 200 Thai Baht.

Our Travel Agency only advertises one organized tour per day too Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. This tour departs the hotel at 07:00 am as early in the morning is the best time to see and experience this attraction. We can at our guests request arrange a private taxi to take you later in the day, but the cost will be much higher.

Your friend is correct there are smaller floating markets closer to the hotel than the tour our agency offers. However, anyone who travels to these locations would not be part of an organized tour and would have to make their own way there, via a private taxi.

We are sorry if you were disappointed with our travel service, but we hope you understand we do not offer the service your friend suggested.

Thank you for staying at the Hotel De Moc.

Kind Regards

John

Lovely hotel near the Khao san Road area about 15 minutes away so far away enough for peace. It has a nice swimming pool and all the staff are really helpful and friendly. This isn't a party place or a hostel so not great for meeting people or partying. More recommended for families, couples and those wanting a more peaceful Bangkok experience but close enough to Khao San to see it.

This hotel is very clean and tidy with excellent customer service. It is located near one of the many bustling tourist areas in Bangkok - Khao San Road, about a 15 minute walk in Thailand's muggy heat. There is very little that is actually close to the hotel. Khao San Road is bustling markets and stores during the day, and lively bars and pubs during the night - with many drunk tourists lurching up and down the street until all hours. This is not our scene and we found we were very far from anything that was more our cup of tea - fortunately taxi fares are not expensive on the meter, but it was inconvenient for the duration of our stay.

On the up-side, there is a great pool, choice of dining areas and styles provided by the hotel itself and a wonderful night time "Buddy Tram Tour" which takes you to 9 nearby landmark monuments all lit up at night - not the way you would normally see them except on postcards! We were able to visit the grounds of the famous Reclining Buddha and were alone with the exception of two other people - a far cry from the push and shove during the day with thousands of tourists in the grounds. The tour guide is knowledgeable and fun.

The staff of the hotel could not be more helpful or accommodating, and take feedback given on checkout seriously. We saw them act on both our negative and positive feedback promptly - rectifying a problem we had brought their attention to, as well as sharing our positive feedback with the staff member it was about while we were still in the checkout process.

The only thing we would warn tourists of is that one of the trinkets we bought from the souvenir store at the hotel was wrapped in scrap paper from the front office - which contained photocopies of previous guests passports!!! Major breach of privacy which we HOPE they have since rectified.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel - you get a balcony and are able to people watch from here...

Dear Melle 974,

Thank you so much for choosing to stay at the Hotel De Moc and for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review of your experiences here.

On behalf of the whole team I would like to thank you for your kind words regarding our staffs high level of customer service. At the Hotel De Moc we understand that when travelers first arrive in a large city such as Bangkok they need and rely on good, solid information on how to get about or what to go and see.

As you mention in your review the Khaosan Road area can be very busy, especially at night time and it can be a little overwhelming if you have just arrived. Our hotel is located in the Old Town of Bangkok and is near by to a lot of interesting cultural sites. We are also like you said only a short taxi ride away from other city areas such as China Town, Silom or the Chakuckak Weekend Market.

Khun Simon our tour guide for the “Buddy Tram Night Tour” was delighted you enjoyed our historical tour around the nearby city landmarks. This remarkable service offers a unique perspective on exploring Bangkok’s past in a very different setting to the usual day tours.

At the Hotel De Moc we listen to what our guests have to say and we appreciate all feedback good or bad. When we receive feedback such as yours we can look at and evaluate the services and facilities we offer and find ways to improve on them for our future guests.

We deeply regret the incident involving the souvenir shop in the hotel. This breach of Data Protection has now been rectified and all our staff have been instructed on the importance of people’s personal information.

We hope you will be able to visit us again next time you are in Bangkok.

Kind Regards

John

I stayed at Hotel De Moc in the beginning of December 2012 for four nights.

The hotel was easy to find and taxis have access to the front entrance of the hotel (not always the case in this area of Bangkok). The location is very nice, in the Old City area of Bangkok within walking distance of Khaosan Rd - if that is of interest - and also quite close to the Golden Mount and access to canal boats.

I had pre-booked and there were no probkems at the reception regarding my reservation and the check-in process went smoothly. 500 baht/night deposit was required at check-in, make sure to hold on to the receipt to be able to reclaim it upon check-out. Bellhop showed me to my room, helped with my luggage and made sure that the AC, light, fridge, etc. were working properly. Nice touch.

The room itself was spacious with a large double bed, well lit and large enough bathroom (no mold), TV with a few international channels included, fridge with minibar, balcony and more than enough space to store clothes and other items. The hotel is as advertised retro-style and at least in my room (#207) there was no major wear-and-tear issues as reported by some; it was old skool but not run down.

Breakfast options were western and asian buffets (+ pretty good coffee) and I considered the selection, quality and quantity of good value. The Beer Garden restaurant provided good coffee and cold beer so no complaints there. I did not eat at the restaurant so cannot comment on the food though. A pool area with thai massage services are also available.

All staff were friendly, courteous and helpful with special thanks to the consierge service in helping with a few practical issues (travel arrangements, etc).

Only minor negative points would be the at times intermittent wifi in the room and the AC that could not be controlled very accurately and was thus too cold for my liking. But as these were minor issues I can recommend Hotel De Moc to anyone looking for mid-range accommodation in this area of Bangkok and would personally also visit again (and actually will visit again before Christmas when returning to Bangkok).

Room Tip: I stayed at #207 on the side of the main facade with a balcony just over the entrance to the hotel...

We stayed here for our first few nights in Thailand. Although perhaps a little dated, our room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed and good air con. The location of the hotel is good, only about a 15 minute walk from the main tourist area. Our room was situated at the front of the hotel and had its own balcony looking out over trees and the swimming pool. Despite what others have said, we could here no noise from the main road at the side of the property and had a good nights sleep each night. The staff were really friendly and helpful, more so than some of the staff at hotels at home in Britain! The restaurant also served a good range of food at breakfast.

Would definately recommend De Moc to others.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have nice balconies
