Cracker location for its price

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 16, 2012
Couldn't find a better location for the amount you pay.

The rooms are reasonably clean and just a stone's throw away from busy Khaosan Road and the Royal Palace.

It's a no-frills type place, but it suited everything I wanted from Bangkok - cheap, cheerful and centrally located.

We had some frequent flyer miles to spend so we booked this place for 1 night. Its the only hotel Ive ever stayed in where they had condoms and cheap whiskey for sale in the room. What does that tell you? Anyway the place was a bit unsettling ,the kind of place you lock and bolt the door as soon as you are inside .I took everything I needed ,cash ,passport .credit cards camera with me when ever I step out of the room. The room smelled a bit but it was passable for 1 night

Room tip: brief stays only

I don’t know what all these positive reviews are about. This place is a HOLE and an expensive one at that. $20 (the discounted Agoda price) for a smelly, dingy room (single) that has had only the most basic of cleaning – cockroaches, pubic hair, some various bits of what I can only hope is food smeared over the fridge and T.V. stand. The sheets did look clean. “Quiet”? – rather, very loud music playing until early hours of the morning. “they even give you shampoo and conditioner”? – you mean that stuff that smells like toilet detergent and leaves your hands sucked of all moisture to make you think it is? – refilled in pre-used bottles that I’m not sure have been cleaned. You have to actually stand almost over the toilet – definitely touching it – in order to take a shower. Then all those lovely things like towels and wifi are an added extra (not complimentary like they advertise), although upon complaining to the humoured and unconcerned reception staff, he waved the towel fee. And included in the list of add-ons is a door delivery of condoms.... need I say more? 750 Baht ($25) is the original price of this ‘fantastic’ experience. Really guys, I can bum it like the rest of them, but not for this price in Thailand... Please don’t waste your money here, you would be happier sharing a room with 3 other backpackers at one of the more lovely hostels in the area. I have been advised to look for rooms behind the temple next time.

Room tip: don't come here.

Me and a friend were meant to stay in this hotel for three nights! We had been very careful using the safe deposite box provided by the staff in the hotel, the second night we arrived in late from a night out and took our things out of the safe. The items included an iPad, two IPhones, and around 10 000 baht. We went to our room and decided to go back out to the seven eleven nearby to get some water. For the 10 minutes we were away we put everything underneath our mattress as it was only a short trip, when we came back all our cash had gone along with one of the iPhones, the hotel staff (one young guy and a security guard) had no idea about the missing things. We asked to see the CCTV but the guy told us we had to wait till 8.30am until we were aloud to see it, it was not 5.00am so we waited at the reception until 8 the staff seemed very nervous I even went to the police who did nothing to help me at all! When we went back to our room the iPhone had been thrown back on the bed, when we left the room we even left an ashtray inside the door so that if it had been moved when we go back we would know someone had used the door some are certain we were robbed. (a strange idea but a good one we thought)

The next day we looked at the room a blue curtain barely visible was covering a sliding glass window to a utility cupboard this means we may as well have not locked our doors at all!
We left a day early with no refund.

DO NOT STAY HERE JUST FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Close to the Khaosan road but just far enough to be away from the noise and commotion. Quite basic rooms but comfortable enough for the price. I had a leaky air con unit in my room and they moved me straight away. One complaint is the toilets available on the ground floor these are in a terrible state and they charge to use them.
If your on a budget this place is fine for a night or two but if you have a bit more cash you may want something slightly better.

Room tip: The deluxe rooms are better but not exactly luxury, its a relative term. Avoid room 103 it has no window in the main room. The bathroom windows have a design that allows flying insects to get in. I was bit quite a lot by mosquitoes. Best to keep bathroom door shut while you sleep.

I very much dislike big cities, but sometimes it just has to be done, so on the rather ubnfavourable occasions where I have to stay in Bangkok, I always stay at the Sawasdee KhaoSan Inn. Great location, next to the khao san road but not right on it so you do get some peace from the tourist trap, basic amenities but has A/C, Large Fridge, Minibar, Comp. water, TV with foreign channels, cupboard, soap & shampoo etc. everything you need for just a few nights stay in the crazy city. Also there's no time-wasting with reception, always quick and you can get help with bags if you ask (sadly not always freely offered) they have a small restaurant, pool table, wifi (which sadly is not free but not overly expensive and has a strong connection) + 24 hour security! All in all not a flashy place but in a good spot and has everything you need!

Room tip: I'd recommend requesting a room overlooking the road (unusual I know but otherwise you end up looking out over other rooms) and you really don't get much noise from the road as the rooms are quite high up
