“The best coffee in BKK”
Reviewed August 3, 2014

If you enjoy real high quality fresh roasted and brewed by the cup coffee, I highly recommend. Out of the way and quiet escape. But only on weekends. Very friendly enjoyable place, can spend hours here.

“Bangkok Coffee HQ”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

Amazing opportunity to talk coffee with these passionate, good humored baristas. Only open on the week-ends I popped in on a Sunday for a pour over coffee and one of their excellent pastries.
This really is coffee central being at the location of their boutique roasting house.

Superb coffee and atmosphere.

“Top of the range for coffee corner”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

Simply one of the best corner for coffee geeks. Very chillax atmosphere. The owner seems to be in love with coffee passionately. All they serve were traditional range of coffee such as espresso, coffee latte, drip brew, and French press. Nothing fancy, like those sweetie frapp with vanilla, caramel, and etc., at all. On the food range, they have homemade pastry available for self service. Both coffee and pastry were really nice. Love the ending part of this place when you will just have to be honest with your bill: the "honesty jar" (^^).

“Best Coffee Experience in Bangkok”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

This is the place for real caffeine heads. Only open on the weekends, Roots brings you fantastic single origins served perfectly. Pour over or press, your choice. They also have some mighty fine blends for espresso drinks.

“Coffee in an art form”
Reviewed December 16, 2013

Coffee in Bangkok generally comes in three different styles: the traditional style, typically sweet and creamy sold from a pushcart (think Thai iced coffee at your local Thai restaurants); the instant coffee that the older generations grew up with; and the many new espresso-style shops and chains that have popped up since Starbucks made it to Thailand. Roots is none of the above. It reminds me of the independent roasters' and cafes in Brooklyn, Washington, DC, many other cities around the world, where one can have a thought-provoking conversation with the barrista about single-source beans, about different tastes that result from different brew techniques (hand pour? cold brew?) or about coffee politics. Oh, and you get to consume it, too! Roots is serving the art of coffee and is peer with those other roasters' and cafes. It didn't feel like Bangkok, so don't come looking for a Thai experience. Just come and enjoy a nice coffee experience.

This place is actually a roaster's and the office for Roots that roasts and distributes coffee to its sister restaurants. They only open the roaster's/cafe on weekends for the public to come experiment and experience coffee the staff. Check the hours before you go. There is also a kitchen that teaches baking and makes pastries for the sister restaurants. You can pick on (or pig out on) the products from the classes. Both coffee and baked goods are donation-based. Pay what you can, or what is worth your satisfaction. So, you don't have to pay much if you don't like what you experience, but I bet you will.
