“Clean, Safe, Great Value & Location”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

I have stayed in this Guest house on 4 separate occasions and would definately stay again. The location is great - it's a few minutes walk one way to the Khao San Road ( the famous backpacker street, where there are lots of restaurants, bars, market stalls, small supermarkets & travel agents) and a few mins the other way to the river where you can catch a river bus to see many of the sights.

I think you can book online and pay on arrival on their website.

The surrounding area is a bit scruffy, but I've never felt unsafe here.

It has a small swimming pool, nice basic restaurant & travel desk. The rooms are key card entry, have a safe, air conditioning, a mini fridge, & ensuite with hot shower. It is basic, but comfortable. Has everything you need for a cheap price. It has 3 other guest houses in it's chain.

I have also stayed in the New Siam I, which is much cheaper, nearer the Khao San Road, clean, but even more basic - no hot water there. I would like to stay in the New Siam Riverside - I popped in to have a look when it was being built about 7 years ago and looked really lovely.

When you're in Bangkok the best night market is called Suan Lum and is next to Lumpini Park, which is also worth a visit.

We only stayed 1 night after being stranded by a bus scam. Hotel was fine and the staff and pool were nice. Travel agent at New Siam was good and she helped us change plans with good accurate information. Don't use tuk tuks, they are dishonest and not safe. Travel agent gave good advice on taxis and costs to get around safely.

Train to Laos 1st class sleeper was good, a nice way to get out of Thialand, if like us you are tired of the "experience".

Excellent price quality, paid 790 Baht in September 2013, double room.(low season)
Very friendly staff at the reception and in the restaurant.
The pool is a bonus.
Very well located, on walking distance: the Grand Palace, the National Museum, Wat Po, flower market, Chinatown, shopping, nightlife in Kosan road, bus stop at the hotel.
100 meters to the pier No.13 Chao Prao river (Public transport by boat - orange flag 15 Baht, blue flag 45 Baht... for uninformed tourists)

Not only is this guest house, as the other reviewers have mentioned, in the middle of everything that a backpacker needs, but it is also very well priced and provides all the amenities one would need from a hotel.

It's about 5 minutes from Koa San road, the centre of backpacking life in Bangkok. The hotel building overlooks a dodgy backstreet that does not provide the eyes with the most beautiful view but the traditional style Buddhist temple in front of the pool certainly makes up for it. The swimming pool is a refreshing and welcoming addition that really makes the sweltering Bangkok atmosphere seem less intimidating.

The hotel owners were friendly and provided us with everything we needed during our stay; we expect nothing less from the Thai's. I would recommend anything off of the menu; although, as with the rest of Thailand, we generally avoided shellfish as there health and safety laws regarding cooking of fresh food are not quite as strict as in England. Also, avoid the wallets - they do not last and will flake after two days. What do you expect for 400 Baht.

Overall a fantastic experience, a wonderful hotel, and a practical location.

The New Siam II Guest house was in the middle of everything; just across from the River and all that it leads to, and in front of the Hippie Street Shopping area of Bangkok. The rooms were small, but comfortable, and had good hot water showers and cold air con. The restaurant had a good breakfast menu and the food was very nice. The staff was courteous and knowledgeable about what to see and do in the area. Near to the Hotel were many small restaurants and shops. Just out the front on NS2 and to the right about 150 meters, across from the small fort area, was a great little place with the most amazing Indian food for next to nothing!
Out the back of NS2 was the street where all the back packers stop and visit for time when they reach Bangkok. It is very well know for restaurants, shops and night life and is a place not to be missed for its atmosphere and varied people watching!! There are street vendors selling food and souvenirs, back packer guest houses, night clubs and massage parlors. the pace is hectic and the environment is exciting! A great place to experiance what most all of Bangkok must have been like 50 years ago. Ya' gotta go see/feel the place!!

Room Tip: Away from the elevator, but any room will do.

I come regularly and have great memories of the guesthouse and the staff of years ago so I keep on coming here though there are a lot to improve. First we had a room in the older building room 3237, basic and with a terrible smell of mould, the airco very noisy and the filter probably never changed.I couldn't sleep feeling allergy coz of the disgusting smell.the next morning we changed the room and asked for a room in the new building, room 3201, newer furnitures, airco more silent, though this room is in the corner and along phra athit , it is better.no smell, the bathroom is nice and good style.two bottle of water in the room, when u ask for the cleaning service of the room, new bottles and towels are provided.this room is fifty baths more so 840baths, bit pricy but better value compared to the old rooms.the restaurant is very good though lack of guests makes missing some things on the menu.also the price of the big breakfast increased 85 baths, too much for what we got.the swimming pool is nice but water cold.and lot of mosquitos.the location is great, close to temples and Khao san but more relaxing.the staff is professional and correct though I don't feel the great atmosphere and the natural smile since already few years. Anyway I like this place and will come back.but they should clean filter of airco in oldest rooms and also do something for the door , quite noisy to close the door and not fun when people slam the door.and wifi should be free seeing the price of the rooms.enjoy your stay, it's worth of stay here.
