“Never get a top floor room in new building.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

We have stayed here before, last time in January 2012 and it was better than good.
Paid extra for a room in the new building, very clean and well presented.
Stayed again in November 2012, room to the same good standard, a bit more pricey but there are free 'extras', water, shampoo, conditioner, etc.
BUT in the mean time, the central air con unit for the new building has worn badly and as it is on the roof, the noise like a tractor running all night made it impossible to sleep. We had to change to a 3rd floor room at 1am ! Could still hear it but did get some sleep as we were shattered by that time.
Its a real shame that bad maintenance makes a good hotel unusable.
The old building should be OK, each room has a separate air con.
The staff are well aware of the problem but appear not to be willing to fix it.
We had intended to stay for 11 nights but gave up after the second.

Room Tip: Opt for the old building and save some cash, or have a 2nd or at most 3rd floor new room. Ear plugs...

This is my go-to place when I'm in Bangkok. It's conveniently located near Khao San Road and Rambuttri without being noisy or annoying. The staff are competent and quite helpful, and the rooms are fine. Nothing fancy, but pretty clean and good enough! For the price, you can't complain at all. It's not the kind of hotel you want to hang out in a lot, but you don't go to Bangkok to hang out in your hotel, do you?! I recommend this hotel highly! The pool is a nice touch, and the restaurant is quite tasty.

A clean and comfortable place to stay in Banglamphu, I keep going back to the New Siam II. I was pleasantly surprised to find a new building this time. The rooms are as comfortable as the old ones, with air conditioning and safe boxes. You need to pay extra for wi fi. The swimming pool is a plus. Their staff seems to be nicer nowadays than in the old times too. It is a place I would recommend in the area, since it is very clean and safe, close to Khao San and away from all its noise. I also tend to like better the restaurants on Phra Athit Road, the one on which the guesthouse is located. Would go back.

Room Tip: You may want to try the new building.

Recently stayed here for two nights. The staff were very helpful and the location and price were also great. Fantastic area for good bars and cafes, easy to walk to lots of sights.
My two issues were the few bed bug bites I received and also the very thin walls. Both nights we were woken up by our neighbour and his late night guest!

Room Tip: Go for the air con at the moment as Bangkok is very hot this time of year!

Nestled alongside the river and only a stones throw from Khao San Road, New Siam 2 has always provided me with the perfect base to explore Bangkok whilst providing all necessary amenities including a great pool to cool off, AC and wifi. However one of the only negatives is that you now have to pay for wifi by the day which was surprising and annoying but obviously a great money maker for New Siam. The rooms are cleaned and "for your privacy" they will only clean the room when you request which is a good for the environment and their pocket. Ideally you might want to get a room at the front with a balcony overlooking the pool so you have somewhere to "relax" in the late late evening. The location allows you to break away from the stranglehold of Khao San which many travelers fall in to and see a few quieter but no less interesting streets. There is also a short cut via the "Muay Thai training ring or the international travelers centre. Both located at the top of Khao San, take a left (at Gullivers) and they are on your right. New Siam always provides a decent restaurant with a good menu, a travel agent to arrange all buses and tours and all staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The closest bar and 7/11 are a mere 10-20 meters away. All in all a great location that allows you to site see and party whilst representing good value for money.

We stayed there for more than a week. It was a very nice location (2mn walk from Kao san road), the staff was professional, the laundry not expensive and the reception open 24/24.

The rooms are clean even if they are a little bit old school.
