I find this place over crowded and often over priced. That said, I bring new travellers here and they allways love it, so if it's your first time go for it, find a 60 baht chicken sharma and walk around and see the scene, note you can buy a beer from the 7 eleven at half the cost of the folks selling them all along the street and they taste exactly the same! So why not?

“The Chandni Chowk of Bangkok”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2014

I visited this place way back in 2010 but the experience is still fresh in my mind. The splace has much to offer, especially to suvinour collectors like me. I did my entire shopping of Thai artifacts from this shop. My wife purchased her quota of handbags from here. A shop named Udom-ag was something we found rather interesting to lookmat and buy from. It has an awesome collection of articrafts, shoes, handbags.
Things to buy at Kao San Road:
Wooden carvings
Wooden Thai figurines (I regret not having purchased one till date)
Thai suvinors
Where to eat:
For vegetarians like me, McDonald's was doable..we managed burgers without the meat patty..
What to see:
There was a temple right at the corner of the street's entrance, supposedly maintained by the royal family(that we missed as we were more interested in exploring the market and were pressed for time)

“Good to see to tick-off but thats it.”

As soon as you get to Khao San Road you can see the tourist traps as the "free" tuk-tuk's line up to take people to their mates tailors and jewellery's. Allot more westernised and not a true reflection of Thai-markets.

Constant hassling with shop keepers being a little to friendly then curse when you don't buy anything. Compared to other parts of Bangkok everything is more expensive and can't be haggled.

Watch out for the taxi's, most will not go by meter and will rip you off many times the actual fare. Your best walking an extra couple of blocks and flag down a taxi and ask before you hop in "meter ?".

Picked up a floating market tour for 600baht from a vendor to escape the place which was worth it. If you aren't interested in buying "I love Bangkok" t-shirts I would advice you to walk around the city from about Victory Monument and check out the markets there.

“Good for late night hang around”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2014

Its safe, its happening and it got everything to attract foreigners. Polish your bargaining skills if you going to shop. Dont expect typical thai market, it is very much for foreigners, nothing thai except people.

Good place to drink, you can choose type of bar you want. Many of them have live performance, few are open to atmosphere, saw few quiet and some are very relax.

I was there during FIFA WK 2014 and could not believe that street was completely orange as it was Netherlands vs Mexico match then. Though Thai people are not much into football, they provide all facilities to enjoy football in almost every bar on street. It was not only football but with every ongoing event (specially for western countries).

PS : It is not as happening as walking street in Pattaya. It is perhaps 2nd best in Thailand.
