Owner description: The backpacking district of Khao San Road is the traveler hub of South East Asia. Jam-packed with raucous bars and restaurants as well as budget hostels, it’s a favorite for late-night revelers.

I found it amazing how they can squeeze in everything in such a road. Packed with everything at affordable prices from drinks, food (and different kinds at that!), clothes, places to stay, certificates, Internet cafes, books, Thai massage, CDs - the place no is no wonder where every backpacker would want to be. It basically has everything that I can imagine someone just going there with nothing, not even a backpack, and still manage to survive. It is definitely more alive at night but even at daytime, you could see an activity of backpackers roaming the area and also some locals manning some stalls that are already open. Probably not one of the clean roads in Bangkok but if only for the vibe, it is definitely a sight to see.

Thought we would go have a look after "The Hangover 2" being filmed there. Wasn't much happening throughout the day. Definitely would have been better at night. I can see why a lot of backpackers go there, as there was a lot of cheap accommodation and fast food chains in a small area.

Khao San Road is a great night out to meet other expats and travellers within Bangkok. Plenty of market stalls are down the center and at the sides of the road, including ones that sell the insects. Well worth a munch on a cricket, even just to say you've done it, they only taste of what sauce they were fried with.

Would recommend this area particularly if you are not into the more sleazy side of Bangkok in Soi Cowboy and Nana. This is a much more 'traditional' night out.

Be careful if you are drinking the buckets. When my friends were drinking them they thought it was two cans of coke, two redbulls and a little bottle of whiskey in each one. When one was made infront of us it turned out that instead there was one can of coke, one redbull and a large whiskey. They were wasted by the third which led to a lot of enterainment (for me at least). :D Never been happier to be unable to drink red bull due to a medical condition!

Sad to say not much to do in Bangkok, let us compare to most major cites that have museums & many many attractions, but you play the hand you are dealt. Khao San road is not a day out but is worth a trip. Loads of stalls selling cloths, CD's etc. Is really a younger persons area with bars and small restaurants. May get a little worrying at night time as the side streets are rather forbidding but saying that did not see any crime, but would advise caution as had its fair share of drunk backpackers, but that does add to the vibe. Has a carnival feel to it... a jolly night out.

No subway or Skytrain stations nearby @ this time.

Metered taxi from Siam Center area costs approximately 90 THB without traffic. Check with your hotel to get an estimate with and without traffic.

Has several bars to choose from.

Has many food stalls.

Lots of shopping that you can bargain prices.

Has many massage parlors with good prices.

Feels like all of Bangkok's expats converged in this area after dark.

Feels safe.

Walk about 1 block away to get metered taxi when you want to leave to increase your chance of getting an honest taxi on the street.

I think it's a good place to hand out with friends at least once in Bangkok.

Has a few travel agencies that you can book show tickets, group tours, and arrange transportation to airport and/or other cities.
