First of all, do not book with the travel desk (located just outside baggage claim) at the airport (BKK). If you do happen or need to book with the travel desk, book only for one night so that you can change hotels if needed.

The hotel location (Pratunam area) is great, but that is pretty much all that is good about it. If negative ratings were possible, I would gladly give it for this hotel. The general hotel areas (lobby, hallways) were very dark.

Do not take the elevator; we were stuck in it for about 10 minutes. Our room was on the third floor; the whole floor smelled like urine. The room also had an old, musty smell, which was probably a combination of old carpet, furniture, cleaning agents, and stale air. We reserved a non-smoking room, but were given a room with an evident scent of smoke.

The room was fairly clean, however, terribly out dated and worn down. Fixtures in the bathroom were outdated and chipped in many places. It was certainly not worth the $40.00 they were charging. Additionally, we had one room with a party of three; however they "extra bed" they provided looked like it could have come from a hospital or mortuary.

Furthermore, the staff at the hotel was not very responsive; they were rather on the lethargic side, slow moving and not very helpful. The local hospitality was certainly not evident as far as I could tell.

To make a long story short, we book for three nights; we only stayed one night. We had to jump through so many bureaucratic hurdles to obtain a refund. I told the travel agent that we would report them to the Tourist Police, the Ministry of Tourism, other government entities.

Again, avoid this hotel if you can. We were able to find other places nearby with nicer rooms for a similar price. Oh, one last tip, touts and scam artists usually run away if you tell them you are from a swine flu affected country.

I look at the other reviews of this hotel and can't help but chuckle to myself when one guest asked for a window. Well, in our stay from 11 - 15 April 2009, we had a window, but it also came at a ghastly price! Being the first to step into the room, I went straight for the yellow curtains, drew them open and BAM! I was facing grey stone walls with dirt peeling of it, and the smell of stale air(actually the stale air was pretty much in our tiny room that we had to pay peak rates for!
Never mind that, its a budget hotel, don't expect a view but the next day when we had house keeping tidy our room, I guess they were so busy chatting they forgot our previous night's bedsheets and left them hung over the chair, in our room! At that moment, we didn't know to laugh or cry! Other than that, the room carpet is about a decade old and extremely filthy(black stains) and the toilet is basic passable. And there isn't a fixed hair dryer in the room, or yellow pages, or a Muslim bible or an arrow pointing direction of prayers, in case one was wondering. You can request, no fee charged. But its 10 baht for 1 min to use the hotel reception phone. And internet charges! And extra person in the room charges too at 600baht, includes extra bed and breakfast.

Next up, the service at the reception was [--], Bangkok having just declared State of Emergency, we scurried back to the hotel reception hopeful for some insightful advice from the staff, but one who was most ignorant compared to the rest exclaimed "NO WORRIES, you can still eat and shop, shop and eat!" Hello?! We weren't chased out of Platinum shopping centre at 5pm and told to go back to the hotel just so he could tell us that! Thank god, there were newspapers we could get our daily news read from! And thank god for Caucasian tourist who we bumped into(they said their Hotel was very helpful with disseminating info...wonder which hotel) The least the hotel could have done were to keep tourist update with the riot happenings! UGH! There is only gonna be 1 staff i would compliment, and he's the dude who calls cabs for hotel guest. He could speak passable english and tried his best to help us. He sits at the front of the hotel, near the breakfast area.
Lastly, the breakfast was all we looked forward too. Its the best area of the whole hotel. Its decent and really passable. And yeah, it actually came as a shock that it was shockingly not too bad. Erm, but the toaster kind of toasts only 1 side of your bread. And the breakfast staff are pretty snotty, i dunno maybe cause we share the same hair colour, but damn man there are 8167261 Singaporeans who go to BKK every month of every year! I'm seriously not being bratty, just some courtesy goes along way you know. Even if your hotel was a rut, if there was service, i could definitely deal with it!

The one aspect about this hotel was it's location. Its walkable(15-20mins) to Platinum, Big C, Zen and Central world. And pratunam market is nearby, Baiyoke Sky hotel and baiyoke boutique. Don't even bother about the 7-11 on this street, doesn't have alot of supplies.

Heads up, if you're not satisfied with the room they check you into, I suggest you view other rooms immediately.

Okay, CITADINES anyday or the ascott Somerset in Bangkok if you're looking to avoid any of the above run-ins. I've stayed in the Somerset Ascott one and it is true to pictures, beautiful rooms, hugeass to the max and if anything serious service! And if you were wondering why we didn't go to Citadines, cus it was fully booked. For the price we paid for PJ, you could afford many other better hotels!
