Taking the long boat is fun.The moment you get into the boat,it starts having loud motor engine sound. The locals are used to it and we try to blend in with them.If there is no seats then you have to stand cramp in between and don't get too close to the side or you will get the smells of the river up to your nose. It's a good experience anyway.

We took one of these for 90min journeys around the waterways and found it really interesting and a great way to see a lot of the city we probably wouldn't have visited. We meet some Thai's earlier who advised us to go to the government pier rather than the Chinese pier?? Regardless we followed their instructions and got our own boat where it appeared everyone else was getting packed in 10's for the same price. And obviously we bartered hard and got a great afternoon on the riverways for about £20 on our own personal boat, being able to stop pretty much anywhere. Couldn't advise this attraction enough, great to see the city skyline from the waters perspective.

I took a ride on the klongs, I got on the river taxi just up the street from Wat Saket ( Golden Mount ) I caught the river taxi at Phan Fa Leelat, beware of all the tuk tuk drivers hanging around the river taxi stop as they will tell you "NO BOAT TODAY" or " BOAT FINISH NOW" they just want you to go with them instead. You do have to be quick getting on as the taxi doesn't hang around waiting for you! I travelled all along the klongs down to Thong Lo, I think around 12 stops. I got off at Thong Lo, had some food there & then got back on the taxi boat going back the other way & then got off at Chit Lom. The klongs stink, there is simply no way of getting away from that & if visiting & riding on the klongs keep your hands out of the water it is very dirty & carries disease. I know people who have been very sick just by being splashed on the face / lips with the dirty water.
I think it's a must do experience for the Bangkok visitor though, it's very cheap & a very good way to see parts of Bangkok that otherwise would remain hidden from you. Go on give it a go, you'll love it!

Had a fun tour out in the Klongs that make appear Bangkok like Venice of the east. Beware of overpriced tour offers, though!
