“A different sight of Bangkok”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

A ride on the Klongs is interesting insofar as you get to see the river life in Bangkok. There are different monuments and temples. Most houses are poorly maintained, some of them in ruins.
Personally, i did not find the ride that scenic, especially that it was quite dirty and smelly, but it's still an interesting way to discover another side of Bangkok if you have time.

“Absolutely one of this best things about Bangkok”

This takes you to an era that has pretty much been gone from most places for decades. It is fascinating!

“The Canals of Bangkok”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

Formerly, Bangkok was known as Venice of the Orient because it was a city built on/around canals, and trade was done on the water for the most part. Now, most of what were canals (Klongs) years ago, have been filled and paved over for the infamous traffic of the city.

However, there are still canals that are used by the locals for navigation around the city, and if you are near a klong that has the boat service it is a fun, fast, and inexpensive way of getting from point A to point B.

I always suggest first time visitors to Bangkok hire a private "Long tail boat" and take a one or two hour cruise through the canal system, as this gives one a little view into the past of Thailand, and the feeling one gets riding through the klongs is wonderful It is also often cooling if one goes in the middle of a hot day.

Always BARGAIN firmly with the boat owner, as prices are definitely negotiable. Whatever they propose, offer him 40% of that amount to start.

Good luck and have fun.

“Bangkok’s filthy waterways”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

In a town of this size the filth has to go somewhere, and the waterways are it. They are smelly and dirty. But, they are still an interesting sight, and worth taking more than a passing glance at. There are numerous ferries that travel the water, and numerous bridges to act as vantage points.
Klongs are an interesting part of Bangkok and an unusual attraction. The riverboats are a great way to get off the tourists path and feel like you are seeing the 'real' Thailand, right in the heart of Bangkok

“Scary”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

The boat didn't feel very safe and they let way too passengers on in my opinion. Someone could easily fall overboard if the boat jolted for some reason. I didn't enjoy it.
