Went there randomly . We saw the temple of course climbed the stairs. the atmosphere there is so peaceful. so many fountains and little statues on the way up. but the most beautiful surprise was this huge golden Buddha maybe 3 metres tall ...

Its not one of the top 5 attractions in Bangkok so if your time is limited then you should give this a miss.
However if you have time on your hands and you don't mind a climb, then you will be rewarded with a spectacular view of the Bangkok skyline.

Enjoyed the temple and the picturesque view from the top of the "mount". A gentle walk up to the mount on the neatly spaced steps... Luckily we had no crowds at all when we went visiting.

Buddha's relics are preserved in an urn at the Golden Mount (Wat Saket).

Strangely finding a cab / taxi back from there to Pratunam was just not possible as cab drivers refused !! Had to come back in a tuk tuk ....

Arrived here on the first full day, as part of one of the tuk-tuk tour scams. A great view of the city, and some cool statues and other things to see. 20 bhat "donation" was needed to enter inside on the top level. It was a bit of a hike up the steps, so for kids or elderly, be prepared.

The Golden Mount is a worth a visit if you're in Bangkok for 5 or more days. But if your time is precious, save your efforts for things like the Bangkok "Top 3" - Temple of Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew), Temple of Reclining Buddha (Wat Po), Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun). Golden Mount as a sight/site pales in comparison to those Bangkok "Biggies".

PLUSES: The climb is a gentle ramp that curves around the mount, taking you through a verdant micro-jungle at the bottom, past a series of massive bells which you're welcome to ring, adding to the atmosphere. The whole climb is a great workout! The golden stupa atop the mount is an amazing, almost blinding sight up close in the daylight. Best to sit quietly for awhile and watch the many local Thais (who very much outnumber tourists) make their pilgrimage as they walk clockwise around the stupa as they pray. The view of Bangkok from the top is stupendous. Overall, a very atmospheric, genuine encounter as you share with the Thais their spiritual experience.

MINUSES: though it's a gentle upward grade, there are still lots of steps, so guaranteed you will be sweatin' like a sow by the time you get to the top! There are no particularly interesting sights INSIDE any of the buildings (no amazing Buddha statues).

TIPS: If you've already made your way to the Golden Mount, explore the main street running north-south beside the entrance (Boriphat Road) where you will see more than a dozen open-air woodworking shops. Amazing craftsmanship, often executed by tradespeople right before your eyes! Alluring wood aroma all around. Also, if you walk south on Boriphat Road to first main interesection, turn right (west) on Thanon Bamrung Mueang and cross the canal, on the south side you'll see more than a dozen "Buddha" shops, selling every conceivable kind of Buddha statue in every size known to man. Very atmospheric, totally NON touristy (this is where Thais come for their religious icon purchases). Loved it.

Due to the very interesting neighbourhood around Golden Mount, I rate this attraction 4-stars (Very Good). If not for the cool 'hood, would only rate Golden Mount 3-stars (Average).
