Review of: BTS Skytrain

We stayed in Bangkok for 8 nights and always used the skytrain to get around, it's so easy and simple and so cheap. All of the staff at the ticket machines spoke english and it was easy to make sure we had the correct stations, we also used the automated machines in the stations where you cna pay by cash or card.

stations are dotted around all over the city and sometimes you may need to get the underground, so we use both. Maybe a skytrain to the underground and then use underground for the rest of the journey either way it's the cheapest way to get around and quickest. It's calm, clean, reliable and really cheap. There are also english speaking annoucements on the train so you know when your station is coming up next.

BTS is by far the best way to travel around Bangkok during rush hours, PERIOD! Once I was so tired and decided to take a taxi from Siam Paragon to my hotel near Asok. It took more than 2 hours... a dreadful mistake!

So efficient, especially to the international airport. Fares very moderately priced. What’s not to like.

Super easy and cheap to use. It takes you to the mains sites in BBK and the trains have air con. It can get quite busy at rush hours.

Review of: BTS Skytrain

20 years ago, BTS was a game changer - it still is a need today.
But Thai authorities are always behind in planning and maintenance. Months of incidents, interruptions and long waiting lines at rush hours.
All this happens in other capitals, too, but with a bit more planning it could improve.

Ordering cheap (chinese) brake linings for replacement was an error, and messing up the high speed (BTS-associated) Airport Express, too.

Now, only a BTS-level slow commuter line connects to the airport, cheap, but many times overcrowded, and no traffic after midnight (as a compliment to the taxi drivers). The proposal to reduce the low price even more to attract more users would just lead to more trouble and overload - and kill it as a reliable airport access.

Fact: BTS in Bangkok is a life safer, but they could do much better, order more waggons early enough and better combine it with MRT subway and buses.
