“Great position for shopping”
Reviewed August 13, 2011

We spent five days/four nights here. The hotel facilities are very good. The pool, gym, rooms, breakfast and restaurants were all superb. As with all hotel restaurants, they are pricey and we ate and drank generously for far less elsewhere. Free Internet is available from three workstations in a room opposite the breakfast area. It is sometimes overrun by kids playing games and updating Facebook and there should be some limitation on this, but generally the wait for a terminal was not too long. Perhaps a separate kids area is needed. Although there is a shuttle to the major shopping areas, we only tried to use it once when trying to get to the Airport Rail Link (ARL) at Makkasan station close by. It was full at the time we needed and the hotel offered no assistance other than a taxi. We felt that they could have done more - like a second trip or additional shuttle. The standard of English is abysmal and we gave up trying to get any sense from staff at the restaurants, pool and gym about their specials, opening hours or anything else. Their understanding was limited to pointing to signs and menus. When our room was made up on one day and the coffee and drinking water had not been replenished, we had a fruitless conversation with housekeeping before asking the manager to call us. When he came to the room the matter was resolved in minutes. The concierge was knowledgeable, very helpful (except with the shuttle) and bilingual. The TV channel choices were very good offering 30 options, but no movie option and mostly news.

Some tips:
Beware of the Tuk Tuk drivers outside the hotel. They are expensive and want to take you to all their contacts - gem "government" shopping outlets, food places, suit shops and more. We were quoted Bht 100 per hour for a tour of Bangkok (not realizing that it would include their commission outlets) and found an alternative near the Pratinum market close by for half that.
Local fare from the hotel to Pratinum is Bht 20. We were quoted from 40 to 100 regularly and simply walked on if the offer was not in line - unless it was raining - grin.
Central World and MBK are all within walking distance or you can use the Skytrain. We switched happily between the Tuk Tuks and excellent train service once we had worked out the train routes. MBK was the best shopping experience and offers good food options too. Take the train to National Stadium.
Take a trip to the river by train getting off at Saphan Taksin on the Silom line - the orange boat line is inexpensive and fun. It will take you to all the riverside attractions, including the Grand Palace. No one mentions that shorts for men and sleeveless blouses for women will prevent your entry once there - so dress conservatively if you plan to go inside.
We used the Intercity Airport Rail Link (ARL) to get to the airport and walked with our luggage to the nearest station to the hotel, Ratchaprarop, rather than Makkasan. We paid Bht 40 each for the all stops trip rather than the Bht 90 for the Express and were at the airport in under 30 minutes. We were not overtaken by the Express at any point.
The Attica restaurant on the 23rd floor of the hotel is well worth a meal. The views are spectacular. The daily specials offer the best value.

When asked to rate this hotel, I first marked it 3 stars - average, but it is better than that by maybe half a star. While offering a great location and good facilities, it is the kind of hotel that is perfect as a base for scouring the area, not a resort or place to spend a lot of time.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better the view. We asked for the no smoking floor.

It was my first trip to Bangkok and I was very skeptical about the hotel. BUT to my pleasant surprise the Eastin hotel was by far teh best hotel I have stayed in. The accomodation, teh food, the people were all amazing. It should definitely get a 5 star fore rating. I fell in love with the hotel and Bangkok. I am now therefore now taking my kids and family there and we are syaing at the Eastin Hotel. Its quite centrally located. Walking dstance to MBK and Central world, Isetan and Siam Paragon....Looking forward to teh December trip

This hotel is nicely located and well reachable by public transport, car or taxi. The hotel has been nicely renovated just a few years ago. Rooms are large and nice with free Internet, nice bathroom, a minibar and enough space to store your luggage. Most rooms have a great view, however there are also rooms where you hardly have any daylight, because the windows are very small and you can just see another concrete building, just meters away. The double beds are really bad and if you are together with your partner, you can better ask for separate beds if you don't want to get seasick.
The breakfast is really good. Fresh food and lot's of choices.
There is also a company located inside the hotels where you can book tours, really nice.

Shopping is just walking distance, good massage shop near by, what else you require in thailand. the hotel is preferred because of close proximity to food joints, shopping place and massage shop, otherwise hotel is conservative and charge for normal TV channels (other than local news channels)

Room Tip: stay but pay for every thing like TV, water etc.

When first arriving at the hotel, my impression was that it was more suited to people travelling for business. Once we were taken to our room, I was very surprised to hear the people in the room next to us talking as if they were in our room, the walls are paper thin, and this really put me off.

Also I think the hotel could provide more variety in it breakfast selection. The seating arrangement I did not like either as the people seated at the table next to us were so close, it made having a conversation a little uncomfortable.

The hotel is very close to the sky train station, which is its main asset in my view.
Also there is a really good massage spot just opposite the hotels entrance, and its reasonably priced.

Good hotel. Bangkok is a busy smelly city and when we got there after a very long flight and took a little tuk tuk trip for 2 minutes from the rail station to the hotel, The next time we went there was after the islands then we walked from the rail station for about 10 minutes.
We didn't know what to look for, and this hotel is great. I don't know if the location is that good because it's a dark alley, but you can walk 20 minutes from the shopping center like Pratunam Market and Pantip Plaza.
The hotel is clean, also the rooms. We had kind of internet in our room through the tv that helped us with e-mails.
The food is great, you can enjoy the breakfast. Good service. The pool is nice.
