It was worth seeing. so definitely go there.

Be prepared its over crowded, HOT, STICKY and there is no room to walk on the footpaths.
There is alot of market stalls ranging from 2nd hand stuff to cool stuff and loads of junk too.

Honestly be prepared and i dont think its a good place to take young kids or prams.

After temple visits, took a taxi to Chinatown. I was bit skeptical but ventured on as my Thai friend was guiding us. First we walked in 2nd hand market and made our way towards Chinatown main streets. We walked past so many food stalls (plan was to decide to eat here or not). Food stall after food stall. The crowdedness of this place is what makes it special. Eye the long queues to see what special is on sale. With my Thai friend we would have been lost and less enriched. We wandered somewhere where the food was cooked in the street like a major production line and tables outside and inside we're being managed like clockwork. Amazing how it was more perfect that a 5star resturant. Food was excellent and cross less than half what you pay in an average seafood restaurant in a place like silom. I want to come back here on my next trip to try other street foods and check out the other markets. One cannot come to Bangkok and expect to travel like back home. Infact if you cannot handle the crowds and street cooking: I'm sure the locals will be pleased if you did not visit their streets. Roasted chest nuts seem to be a specialty there.

We came by boat on the river and that was nice. The Chinatown streets are overcrowded and tight tight tight. Just a bunch of people buying and selling like elsewhere in Bangkok but with much less room. The only things we liked here were Rice warehouses.

I loved Chinatown! It's only a small part of the downtown on two streets that run parallel. Most of the action in all the lanes in-between. Yaowarat road is the main drag and has all the usual commerce of any Chinatown anywhere but with intensity!
24kt gold shops doing a brisk business between Christmas and new years with some giving great deals that patrons were three deep at the counter! Amazing food stalls as well as big restaurants, tea shops, natural medicines, dried foods, fresh fruits, live seafood and all in-between in the lane ways were clothing stalls and shoe stores, leather goods and plastic crap from china in every imaginable form of toys and dolls etc. Have a good look around before you decide on any one place to eat as there are many many options. We went to the Canton House
530 Yaowarat road for Dim-Sum but it was the worst we have ever eaten anywhere! We should have heeded better advise and gone to Hua Seng HONG Restaurant 371-372 Yaowarat road instead as it's supposed to be far superior! Anyway, there are many places to chose from even street vendors, food stalls are great! Lots of history here!

Spent a whole day here recently-it was wonderful! Got the boat bus to drop us off and then just wandered. Got completely lost-but that was half the fun of it! Loads of stuff to buy here and really cheap too!
