“Good price, great location”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

Good price, great location, 5 min walk to Kao San Road but with no noise at all. It might be a little hard to find, though (get details about the location before you go). We didn't get a large room, but everything was clean and the bed was comfortable. The only problem is: the staff we talked to barely spoke a word of english. But anyway, it's a very good option in Bangkok.

This is a clean, decent value basic hotel on the edges of the backpacker district of the Thai capital. I was warned that you get what you pay for in Bangkok and this place definitely bore that out.

This place is up a small alley, so I recommend that you have your taxi driver call the place for instructions. A warning: this hotel is very, very far from the rail/subway lines (not at all walkable) - you'll have to rely on taxis (good luck on finding one who will start the meter) or the dreaded tuktuks. It is about a 10 min walk of the backpacker strip if you're into that sort of thing, and maybe 25 mins walk to Wat Pho and the Grand Palace/Wat Phra Kew (guys wear long pants for the latter - also, don't talk to ANY of the Thais who approach you/act friendly outside of any major palace/tourist site; they are all scammers and liars who will tell you the temple is closed, but they know a "better" temple, and other errant nonsense). Heading to other sites (Lumphini Park, Chinatown) and downtown will require wheels. There are a couple of good places to eat nearby, and a 7-11.

The front desk's English proficiency seems quite limited. Occasionally we had trouble getting them to understand us. (Noticed that some of the signs labeled in other foreign languages were sometimes very inaccurate as well). Also, we emailed them several days prior to arriving to see if they could pick us up from the airport... We received positive confirmation, but then on arrival day... No one to meet us at BKK airport. They were able to get us a shared van to the airport when we left (don't use it if you're in a hurry - it makes a lot of stops to pack the van to the gills before it departs for the 45-60+ min ride to BKK airport). We didn't use any of their tours, but there were quite a number offered.

The double bed room was a little small for 2 folks, but clean. Just barely enough space to unpack. The free Wifi had no issues, and the AC was fine. There were no English language TV channels. The bathroom door was a sliding plastic screen, kind of annoying and you'll hear everything. There were a couple of adequate desktop PCs and pay laundry machines on the first floor. There is also no elevator or in room fridge.

The area is fairly quiet... But there is either a mosque or temple next door that woke us up several days with their call to prayer at 5 or 6 AM... Not pleasant - bring earplugs. Also watch out for the huge cockroaches in the connecting alleyway at night.

Despite a few rough spots, overall its not too bad of a basic joint. I would recommend looking for deals at other places first though.

It was having some rooms redecorated when I stayed and the one. Was in, was very boutique. Even though the room was small, we had just enough space, and the bathroom as well as decor made up for the lack of room. The beds are new and comfy and the whole place is spotless. The communal area is also a great handout spot. I would stay and gain and highly recommend this place.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights during our Bangkok visit. The guesthouse itself is a bit hard to find as it is located in a small alley from the main road. I recommend to let the taxi driver drop you off at the 7-11 and find the alley by walking.
The room we had is small, but the bed was probably one of the best we had during our Asia trip.
The guesthouse is about 10 min walk away from kao San Road. It is very quiet in the room.
I recommend buying a tourist sim card at the nearby 7-11 and use your mobile for navigation using Google maps. With these tools we could easily use the cheap local buses and ferrys to get around quickly and saving the taxi money.

Good place to stay. Really clean, great showers, rooms have tv, hair dryer, good aircon, linen is clean and white, we stayed in two different rooms. Both excellent. Rooms get cleaned daily.

Great location, perfect to get to kho san and grand palace- you don't feel like you staying a grubby hostel on Kho san road but still near the action without the noise

Good choice with family, friends or solo.

Highly recommended

We used Smile Buri House for the start and end of our trip to Bangkok too! The location is really good, even though it is difficult to find (it is tucked away in an alleyway off of a main road) and taxi drivers do have a problem finding it. Check in took a little while but the staff are really friendly and helpful. There is no lift so if you have a lot of luggage prepare for some stairs! We had a triple room both times located on floor 3 & 4, the rooms are quite nice and the beds are really comfortable. One of the best nights sleep we had during our whole trip! I would reccommend this place to anyone visiting Bangkok as it is a good base, if your looking for budget accommodation and a good nights sleep close to Khoasan Road it is perfect.

Used this place for the start and ending of our Thailand trip. 1 night when arriving in Bangkok, 2 nights when leaving Bangkok back to Europe. Very friendly and English speaking staff. Good beds, clean rooms. Simple, but really can't expect more for this price. Paid 900 (20 euro at its current rate) bath per night for a two person room. The place is als situated in a quiet alley, around the corner of the busy Khao San area.
