Description: Magical underground cabaret full of mystery, romance, jazz, reminiscent of Shanghai 1930. Maggie Choo's was named after Shanghai cabaret owner who fled her hometown in 1931 following the Japanese invasion that tore the city. Shortly after arriving in Bangkok, she found a 19th century Thai Chinese shoe box restaurant crammed into a basement 10 meters below Silom road serving authentic Thai chinese shophouse food. When one day, she discovered behind the walls in the corner of the restaurant an entrance that lead to a derelict 19th century East India company bank built in 1847 used for storing porcelain and spices that the British used to carry back to England for Queen Victoria, her past caught up with her and she converted the old bank into a cabaret, just like when she used to back in Shanghai. Today the cabaret is yet to be revived again...

Very nice atmosphere, chilly music, top class singer, friendly staff.
Recommend the days with live band, DJ Hip Hop music is not for everyone
Will be back.

I always do lots of research on places of interest (to us) on our next trip. I had read about this place and we wandered there from our hotel in Bang Rak. We got there at 8pm and were told that a cabaret started at 10pm until 2am.

Okay we decided to stay, had some food, not a huge menu but adequate and tasty. The woman that appeared to be the Manager is very pleasant. Not many people when we arrived but by 10pm the place was pumping.

The entertainers were great (admittedly not all) but a fun night.

Visited on a Friday night. Singer was trying to do English songs but could barely pronounce the lyrics. Was extremely painful to hear.

Reminiscent of an opium den/bank hybrid, Maggie Choo's impresses you from the start - as you climb down the stairs awash in red light. On entering the main space you're led to a plush couch to begin your evening. The DJ was brilliant and the dancers in their cheongsams and hand fans were electrifying. Negronis were A++

Maggie Choo is a place that is worth a visit for it’s interior alone. Designed in the style of a Shanghai opium din with some separate rooms and beautiful Chinese style ladies around just for decoration. They have great live music. The night we were there a very nice jazz combo with classical jazz repertoire. So sad that during the break of the band the DJ comes and spoils it all with upbeat music of a totally different genre that hurt my ears. When the band finished we would have liked to finish off with another glass, but here the DJ almost chased us out with even louder disco music. Did any of the audience, who seemed to enjoy the jazz, come for this? Someone should oversee the musical concept and see it is in line for the whole evening.
