“Fantastic filet mignon!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2013

Italian food is very popular food for Japanese now.
In other hand French food is still unusual food for us.
What we have an image about French food?

Stiff and formal dress code....
French menu...
Overpriced...
Butter Butter and Butter...

I think that these images are exceeds current real French food.
A lot of people cannot read in French menu like us.
There is many casual style of French restaurants too.
The costs is depend on places.
The nouveau French cuisine has a variety taste now.
We are able to enjoy French foods like a feel of italian.
If we could be wipe out to old general images.

Back to main subject.
Here is hidden restaurant in Bangkok.
This is not special luxurious.
But nice atmosphere for us.
Not over casual but enjoyable meal with relax.
I went to here one month ago with my wife.

We ordered escargot for appetizer.
And lobster bisque.
We choice filet mignon for main.
And desserts.
Also house wine.

Escargot
I cannot comment about Escargot because we were not try to Escargot a lot before.

Lobster bisque
Not but, however it was Unremarkable taste.

Filet mignon
It was one of the best cuisine in Bangkok.
We have never been see such as perfect grilled of filet mignon steak.
I required to grilled by rare.
A filet mignon is very difficult to grilled by rare but they provided perfect it.
A wine sauce was very nice.
Good combination with red wine.
I really recommended it.
You do not miss it.
House wine.
Price was reasonable and nice flavors.
Medium Body and maybe it was Bordeaux Blend wine.
I did not know details but maybe it contains Merlot based and little of Syrah…?

Over view.
The budget was almost 1500THB per person.
Price is reasonable.
Anyway, filet mignon was unforgettable for me.
You have to try it if you are beef loved.

“Just okay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2013

We celebrated a Father's Day lunch at JP French Restaurant after reading that it was ranked 3rd in Bangkok on TA. After the meal, I must confess I don't understand how that is possible.
I will give the restaurant good marks for effort, but it seems to fall short in every major category.
The service, while friendly, really lacked polish and a degree of professionalism that should have inspired more confidence in diners. Orders were delivered wrong, forgotten and the whole conversation flow with patrons bordered on having no distinct pattern. The restaurant does not include a service charge. Maybe it should if it would upgrade the service level.
The food was generally just passable. My rib eye steak was perfectly cooked with a generous side of pasta and pepper sauce, but the Australian meat was not of the best quality and turned out to be tougher than it should have been. Others reported so-so results with their pasta and soup dishes. Not all of us finished their main dishes. The total bill came and I thought it was high considering what we got.
The ambience of the restaurant is nice but rather odd considering decorations with photos from the movie A Roman Holiday and Sophia Loren, but this being a French restaurant. In fact, the menu also featured several Italian dishes and even a few Thai ones. This is a place that is confused about its identity and/or positioning. If it would just settle on French bistro food for which it is known, I think the end result would be markedly positive. Our group liked the layout of JP, however, with its second floor space neatly planned on a balcony overlooking the ground floor. Cozy and intimate, but not ideal for large groups.
The owner is charming and he came to greet us and stopped by to ensure everything was okay. I think JP has the potential to be a really great restaurant. It just needs to fix some holes, and do that quickly.

Dear Chattan

First of all , many thanks for your visit and for take time to explain what 's your point of view of our place.
I respect everything you say and i would like to explain some specific things
IF we got some thai dishes( 3 or 4 no more) ,it's because many expats have thai girls friends who doesn't appreciate french or farang food and if they don't find their food, they will be reticent to come here..that's all and only for this reason that we got the 2 or 3 thai dish even for the pasta, who is a big popular dish all over the world ....and not because i'm confused about identity...really
ALL the menu is 99% french traditional food with many plate that you can't find anywhere else
about the pictures,it's feature europeen movies ,for the atmosphere, not only with Sophia Loren but Brigitte Bardot also who is the most famous French movie star...
For sure we are not a big and ample restaurant but we already fix party for more 40 people, upstairs, and everybody enjoy, believe me...
Anyway, thanks again for coming,i hope you'll give us a second chance, for diner,i will be there because unfortunately i wasn't here for your venue and i really will be enjoy to discuss with you
my best regards
JP

“Over rated”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2013

After the very good reviews, we tried out this restaurant and found it very disappointing. The escargots are the smallest that we have ever eaten. The food is generally bland. We ordered a medium steak and it turned out to be well done. The waitress did not even ask us how we like the steak done. Wine is luke warm - room temperature with air condition in Bangkok is usually 75F so it has to be slightly chilled. My wife decided not to order any dessert after the disappointing first and main courses. The only good thing is the bread and the relatively low prices.

Dear Choedchu

Many thanks to take time to write your first ,ever ,review for the JP restaurant
So sad to see that your experience was bad but ....no i don't want argue even if i am very surprise
by 2 or 3 little details
apparently the waitress did't ask you for how you like you steak cooking...and in service you give me a 4/5 ...
apparently you said the good things is the low price....and
you give me 2/5...
So i don't want to say anything...sorry for this bad evening

PS: escargots are excactely the same since the opening...and it is one of our best seller items...
Wine came from the wine cellar and it's too cold most of the time and people have to wait a little bit for a perfect temperature....for you ,it was to warm...

regards
JP
