“perfection in style”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

being a traveller for many years I hardly remember to have enjoyed a property like this. firstly it is brandnew, therfore all outlets are still in very good shape. you can feel the hopspitality at all times. either in the breathtaking bar- rooftop- or in the excellent Restaurants downstairs. the buffets have been extraordinary good structured, nothing missed.... what we appreciated is also that the managment was visible, any time, even late for a talk on the bar ;-) the rooms are all equipped with the latest fashion and design. you feel the athentic style. very good for a "chain Hotel". we will return !

Never ever thought Marriott would have such a poor service! They gave a room for me and my wife which is really small enough for even 1 person! House keeping supplied our room with equipment for 1 person (example: shampoo, ear puds to name a few)!! Wake up calls without even my permission or request!! No sense of respect when entering the hotel where staff used to enter the door with us with luggages instead of giving us priority! Food was ok but not Marriott quality! Poor english skilled staff! Had bad time to communicate!

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

Overall:
The hotel (opened earlier this year) is at the very corner of Sukhumvit 57. Although it is located a bit far from Bangkok center by car, but with Thong Lo BTS station (Sukhumvit 55) in just 2-3 minutes away, access to business areas, shopping malls, or tourist spots is as easy and quick as it gets. Travel by taxis is another story, especially during rush hours. So if you have mobility issues then I’d advise you to stay somewhere closer to Bangkok’s heart, unless time is the least of your concern. By the way, the hotel’s exterior ambience is nothing like the architect’s version as shown on the website. In reality the hotel is rather difficult to spot, coming from town center as Thong Lo BTS station practically covers the view. For those who bring own cars, once pass Thong Lo intersection, keep left. The next soi (lane; side street) is already 57 but keep going straight; do not turn at Soi 57. Just a bit further then turn left at the security booth to access the underground parking lot. Both check-in and checkout were quick and smooth. I got attracted to their elevators which beside from modernly designed, are supplied with touch-screen panels, displaying hotel info as well as quotes from famous people like Napoleon Bonaparte, Edgar Allan Poe, etc. All these and floor numbers change colors daily. Nice gimmick! They have separate elevators for public areas and guest rooms; the latter is accessible by keycards. BMS 57 is partially disable-friendly.

Room:
My room is on the 27th floor, a corner room. The room is sizeable and very comfortable for two adults, plus one or two small kid(s) if needs be. Other than that would be a bit crowded. Of course the raved about bathroom is definitely seconded. It was tastefully designed into three separate sections: the toilet room, the wash basin area, and the bathing room. With its sliding door open, gives the room an additional space thereby making the whole room looks bigger. The round bathtub is comfy enough for two European-size adults together. The idea of putting both the tub and the shower in the same compartment is terrific as it really separates the wet area from the dry one. Hand rail for stability while bathing is really useful for old people. What impressed me even more is the big wall niche by the shower so you can put your own toiletries in there. The sliding door has a lock for privacy. Full bathroom amenities are arranged in a leather box with acrylic cover and replenished daily. A digital weighing scale is also supplied. Earlier this year when I stayed at the new Rayong Marriott Resort and Spa, I had expressed my fond of the bathroom style. Without doubt, the bathroom at BMS 57 is now my favorite both in its design and functionality.

Another feature of the room that impressed me a lot is the closet room. Yes, you heard it right, I said room because there’s a door that can be locked for privacy while changing! On the wall opposite the closet door is a full-length mirror to check yourself before leaving the room.

Other room features are as advertised on the website, plus universal sockets and an iPhone/iPod dock. One recommendation: for turn down service, when applicable, a flower or even a goodnight note on the pillow would bring a warm touch to the guest’s heart…just a thought. I’ve read comments from fellow reviewers complaining about hotel’s charges on wired/wifi internet. Well sadly to say, but this is true in many other big name hotels across Thailand as well. With Marriott chain however, you can simply apply for Marriott Rewards Program for free and then you can enjoy free internet access throughout your stay at their participating chain hotels in Asia and Pacific.

Dining:
Two main in-house dining venues are 57th Street near lobby, offering all day dining and The District Grill Room & Bar on the 2nd floor, serving dinner by reservations. And there’s the renowned Octave Rooftop Lounge and Bar which opens at night so guests can witness the 360◦ spectacular view of Bangkok under the starry sky. All these I hadn’t paid them a visit. You see, the hotel is pretty near to many local eateries of varied choices and prices to choose from. That said, I did enjoy the hotel’s Executive lounge (one of the perks of being an elite member) very much. Staffs are caring and attentive even when we were the only Thai couple there. I found them to be quite fluent with English, especially Khun TokTak. Free canapes served from 17.30-21.30 daily were quite tasty and frankly, at our senior years, this practically served as our dinners since we don’t eat much anymore. The same holds true for free breakfast service from 5.30-10.30. The spread is not much compared to the paid bf buffet at 57th Street, but sure is enough to keep your stomach full until evening. To some, the lounge may look a bit more businesslike, but I find the chairs to be comfortable. There are two computers + 1 printer at the far end of the room; I didn’t take a look at the meeting room which is available for one hour complimentary usage for elite members, pre-arranged in advance. Last but not least, the Chocolate Cake Company (C-C-Co) which serves sinful desserts indeed, especially at the not-to-be-missed prime time from 18.00-21.00 daily when a certain collection of cakes and pastries is on sale at 50%!!! Usually I don’t like sweets and yet I couldn’t resist committing a sin for two nights in a row.^_^

Dining nearby:
From the hotel you can walk to Soi Thong Lo (55) where you can find many good and delicious restaurants of international cuisines. You can get advice from the hotel’s concierge or front desk for details. However, if you’re quite healthy and have no problem eating street foods, I’d like to suggest you cross to the opposite side of Soi Thong Lo where you’ll find Soi 38 (see my photos). There’re rows of street foods on both sides of the soi. The place opens from about 17.00 and goes on until the early hours of the next day. Both locals and foreigners come to enjoy their meals. You can just sit in one place and order foods from other stalls to deliver to your table. Do they all taste that good? This is a tricky question because when it comes to taste, it is each to his own. As I said, if your stomach is strong and you want to have the “feel” of local street foods, then just try it out. Foods ranging from seafood, noodles/wantons, phad thai, pork bbq’s to sticky rice with mangos/durians at an average price of 50-70 bahts per plate (around 2-3 $). Pictured menus are available in English. Of course, there’re other street foods at other places with lower prices but they are quite far from BMS 57. I wish to stress once again that if you want to try out, you’ll have to forget about hygiene as the place is street food in every sense. If you want a decent, hygienic place for the same kind of street foods, I suggest you go to Terminal 21 at Asoke Intersection. From Thong Lo BTS it’s only 2 stops away. You get off at Asoke BTS station and look for the sign of Terminal 21; there’s a walkway to the building. Once inside, go up to the 5th floor where you’ll find many restaurants of your choices, be it Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean or western. But if you want to try a bit of this and that, then Pier 21 Food court is the right answer. Prices start as low as 25-30 bahts and yummy too.

This new Marriott leaved up to a Marriott standard in terms of service and facilities. What stood out is the quality of staff seems to be a notch better than most 5 stars hotel in Bangkok and really impressed me with the English speaking ability of most of their staff. The room was a little small by Bangkok standard but acceptable. Breakfast was excellent. The location is at the far end of Sukumvit so not exactly convenient for business travelers that conduct business around the central business area like Silom etc. It is great for tourist as it is surrounded by some of the best street food, gourmet restaurants and spas. It is a 10 min walk to Thonglor. The Octave Bar & Lounge on the 42nd floor is impressive.

The smell from the room will tell you this is a new hotel! Deluxe was not as big as I though but a huge round bath-tub is enough for two with big windows. I have stay for four nights so tried most of the food during breakfast, not much variety comparing with other 5 star hotel in Bangkok. Location is good as less than 5 min walk from BTS Thong Lor
station. A lot of massage place nearby, foot massage as cheap as 199 Baht, Thai massage start from 250. There are so many Japanese restaurant which is incredible!

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

We were having a short getaway for the weekend and our local friend recommended this hotel as it was near all the night spots and cheap as was only recently opened.

Took us only 25 minutes from the airport, which was a miracle after hearing the infamy of banking traffic.

There was only 2 receptionists, tending to other guests so we just hung about the counter. Then we were greeted with a cold towel and very refreshing purple drink. I loved it! The sweetness was very subtle maybe a bit sour. Can't really tell what it was. Maybe a lavender infusion drink?

Soon later we were checking in and I gave them our reservation voucher. They didn't realise that I had fully paid for my stay upfront. -_-'

Anyways, rooms was apparently fully booked and our group was allocated rooms on a different floor. Later I found out it wasn't the case as another friend of ours checked in later on the same floor, so I was the only one left out ;'(

When we got to our room, it felt a little small. They had a partition on the middle of the room which separated the toilet and the bedroom, meaning half the room would be gone if one of us had to shower.

Room mini bar was pretty average but the beer was pretty cheap if you're too tired to go downstairs or rooftop bar for a drink.

Cocktail lounge was pretty nice, the draft Singha (THB 130) really hit the spot while waiting for the rest of us to arrive and 2 taxis to bring us around. There is free wifi at the lounge too.

After having dinner out, we decided to hit the rooftop bar. Apparently they can close it up for private function of up to 30 people up there. We were greeted by a tall, beautiful attendant which we didn't realise was a "T" til she told us that they couldn't sit us at the bar as there we'rent any tables available in her deep voice. She suggested we head upstairs to the top of the three floors bar.

The view was breathtaking. However, the uninterrupted 360 degrees open air view of Bangkok skyline made feel a bit giddy. So I just focused on the middle of the bar area. 2 bottles of Moet costs us THB 14000.

Later after a night out on the town, we came back requested for some Ice and some complementary water. They delivered the ice but kept telling us they already gave us water (which is true as the room came with 2 bottles) but we wanted more. After arguing with the house keeping, concierge and room service, I gave up and just popped by 7-Eleven which was only 3 shops down the road.

Woke up at 10 to check that breakfast ends at 10:30. Went down and grabbed one of everything they had there. The breakfast hall looks very nice, but food had no substance. No hearty food, only pastries, broth, some noodles, salads, fruits, yoghurt and some eggs / sausage / bacon which wasn't filling.

We dipped in the pool for lunch, was surprisingly super cold while the sun was hot. They only had light food like sandwiches and rolls. The infinity pool wasn't really infinity, it was blocked by the huge glass and concrete barrier. Still nice to chill after a heavy night.

Checking out was pretty easy, we asked for a late checkout so they extended it from 12 to 1:30. An extra hour of sleep is better than nothing. We got out of our room by 2 pm but the hotel did not call to check on us.

All in all was a good stay, room was decent, location was good and rates was reasonable at USD 150 per night. I probably would try else where once they start hiking up the price.
